1.ABEL’S FLASH POINT APPARATUS

Aim: To determine the flash point of diesel and kerosene.

Apparatus: Abel’s flash point apparatus, thermometers.

Flash point: lowest temperature at which the volatile material (fuel) can vaporize to form an ignitable mixture in air.

Fire point: temperature at which fuel continue to burn for at least 5 s after ignition by an open flame.

Closed cup method is used.Cup is placed in water bath with heater.Temperature range: 180C to 700CFire point = flash point + 100C.
