They are all working extremely hard during their exam period at the moment, and we wish them every success. I’d also like to thank all the teachers for getting them to fulfil their potential, and to their parents for supporting them through the last few weeks. We’re all looking forward to results day on 22nd August and hopefully, some excellent grades to celebrate. We are also preparing for the start of the next academic year in September and have many exciting plans, including bringing some new technology to the Academy. Our annual Summer Fair will be held on Thursday 11th July between 2 and 4.30 pm, and this is shaping up to be a bumper event this year, featuring tombola, prize raffle, book and crafts stalls and lots of games to try your hand at. Please do come along and support the Academy – we will be keeping our fingers crossed for a sunny day! On 3rd July we are holding an Induction Day for the new Year 7 students starting at the Academy in September. This is an excellent way for them to meet staff and get to know the site before they begin their new term, and I know we will all work hard to make them feel welcome. Finally, I would like to remind parents that the school will be closed to students on Friday 28th June for staff training. Dear Parents & Students

Let me start by saying how proud we are of our Year 11 students. They are all working

extremely hard during their exam period at the moment, and we wish them every

success.

ENDEAVOUR NEWS Student Voice

Over the past couple of weeks, Student Voice has met to discuss the Summer Fair (see the poster for information) and the new Endeavour Ambassador scheme.

Endeavour Ambassador Information:

Selection Criteria:

There are three different types of Endeavour Ambassador role that students can apply for: Peer Mentors (yr 8 to 10 can apply) Teaching and Learning Ambassador and Community Ambassador: Head boys and Head girls will work with each of the groups. All years can apply for the roles but only current Yr 8 to Yr 10 can apply to be peer mentors as they will be working with the new Yr 7 and 8 tutor groups in September. Please see Mrs Baker, Humanities teachers and year 10 tutors for more details and application forms for all of the roles.

Deadline extended to June 25th.

Who can become an Endeavour Ambassador?

Ambassadors are the Academy’s role models. If you are a student who wants to make a difference, with an excellent record of hard work, good behaviour, attendance, punctuality and uniform then you are a suitable candidate. However, please do not be put off from applying if you are someone who has had problems previously in school but have worked through these.

NEWS FROM THE HUB Over the last term since Easter we have looked at a variety of issues such as bullying, aspirations, hobbies and role models, and used discussions, games and activities in order to fully understand and appreciate them. The boys have demonstrated excellent learning behaviour and taken a keen interest in participating in future activities such as the Summer Fair, outside games and activities and charity events.

Tiffany Hughes, Skye Harper Chloe Reilly and Jamie Dale

Four girls from Year 7 have been attending a Social Skills Group in the Hub. This term they have been discussing the importance of Friendships. They have created Acrostic poems, had very lively debates about Friendship and have thought about adjectives to describe a good friend. Skye Harper says "In my social skills group I have found out that I should value my friends and treat them “nicely" .

The drama group is rehearsing for a performance at The New Wolsey Theatre Youth Performance. The Youth Performance is on for four days and we will be performing on Friday 12th July. Tickets can be purchased from the box office and all are welcome to attend.

Year 10 ICT Class - Christchurch Park Visit

On Wednesday 12th June afternoon, led by Mrs Yucel (ICT Teacher) and assisted by Ms Smart, the Cambridge Nationals ICT Year 10 class went on a field trip to Christchurch Park as part of their final ICT assignment - Cre-ating Digital Images. The goal was to take a range of photos of natural and cultural beauty in order to take back to the classroom, manipulate using photo editing software and produce an entry for a competition called `The camera never lies.......or does it?`. The students had to bear in mind the product they create is with the intention of pro-moting the local area. What better canvas and setting than Christchurch Park and mansion house on a lovely sunny afternoon in June and that is exactly what we got? Not only were lots of photos taken but also lots of fun was had by all and even time for a quick ice cream mid-way through the afternoon! Mrs Yucel and Ms Smart were very impressed with the excellent behaviour our students demonstrated during the trip and they `represented our school very well. Hopefully by the time the next newsletter is issued, we can include some of the finished work the students have produced! See photo below taken during the trip which may or may not be used by the students but certainly shows what just a short time away from the typical classroom environment can do by taking the classroom outside and elsewhere. Well done Year 10s: Joseph Flude, Shelbey Elliss, Mohammed Adel, Ripley Sherman, Kyle Bodin, Jack Cresswell, Kyle Diaper, Jak Stansfield, David Armstrong, Tia Horman, Megan Wooltorton, Courtney Dighton, Abi Wells.

HOUSE UPDATES Adlington House GCSE exams are almost over for this year as I write but many students in year 10 are working on controlled assessment tasks. The final half term is a great opportunity to reflect on work completed, get ahead in preparations for next year or just catch up on any ideas and topics we find challenging. As all exams move to the summer in future, revision and thorough learning is essential. For this reason there is no slowing down to what happens in school and all of us in Adlington will be working hard right up to the end- of -term activity days.

Mr Chartres—House Director

Redgrave House Steve Redgrave set out to win three gold medals and ended up achieving five. Many Redgrave students have the same drive and determination as Sir Steve. Although the GCSE exams have finished for the year, control assessments and other important assessments continue. We have Activities Day, Sports Day, Year 6 Induction Day and our Summer Fair to look forward to but we won’t slack off from the excellent work habits that we have developed. Together, Redgrave students have earned over 11500 House Points! We are aiming for 15,000. Miss Bowyer - House Director

Holmes House Students at the academy have the opportunity to participate in student voice

meetings each Monday; this allows students to contribute toward decisions made at

the academy and make sure their voice is heard. A number of students in Holmes

House have been particularly good at representing their peers at these meetings.

Congratulations and thank you to Jess Turner, Ella Lockwood, Will Suttle, Alice

Walden (all in Year 9), Rebecca Brame (7CLN) and Marvin Matherson (10DSL).

Ms Theobald - House Director
