The Endeavour News
Message from the Principal :
Dear Parents
We are very proud of this edition of the newsletter. We have made it bigger as we want to
celebrate the success of our students.
We are very proud of the improvements that we have made over the last year, but we know
there is still work to do. One of the most important improvements we need to make is our
communication and involvement of parents with the Academy. We would like to know your
ideas how to do this. Please email us at office@oeacademy with your suggestions. We also
urgently need a Parent Governor. If you would be interested in offering your time and
support for this role, please contact me so we can organise a visit.
We know that together we can make the Academy what we all want it to be for our young
people.
Have a great Easter.
Sam Penn
Faculty news:
Before half term, years 7, 8 and 9 took part in practical assessments in Food Technology. Students planned their assessment dish, brought in all their ingredients, and for the majority, cooked without any help. I was very impressed with the way that the students worked in such a focused way to demonstrate some of the skills they have learnt in their lessons. They produced some fabulous dishes. Following this success, some year 9 classes are now starting a Multi-Cultural project—cooking dishes from around the world and planning their own work. The first group are very proud to present their initial dishes and will be continuing this work over the next half term. Thank you to parents and guardians supporting students to bring in their ingredients ! Ms Sewell—Food Technology
Year 11 news:
With Year 11 exams looming ever closer, the Year 11 are starting to feel the stresses of balancing coursework, revision and the everyday pressures of being a teenager.
We feel it is our duty of care to ensure that they are not only ready academically but that they also feel emotionally ready to face these challenges head on. To help them in the last and most intensive time at Endeavour we have introduced a few changes and put a real focus on ensuring that all of our students are as ready as they possibly can be.
The first change was to ensure that we had a member of staff within the school to drive and focus the Year 11, and to this end we appointed Mr Prior as Director of Progress and appointed Miss Hart as a Raising Achievement Assistant. With their combined focus we have started to ensure that the Students are all pulling in the same direction.
We have designed and opened a Year 11-only work room, that is fully kitted out with ICT to ensure all students have access to the resources they need to achieve. Miss Hart mans this room and we timetable students in for 1 to 1 and small group work. The room is also open at lunchtime and after school for extra support. To help ensure students feel comfortable we supply hot drinks all day. It is a very adult environment with students working hard to complete work.
We also ensure that Year 11 come together as a year group by holding weekly assemblies. Visitors come in to give advice on exams and life after Endeavour. We also focus upon achievement and progress.
To further encourage our students to lead their own learning we have started a prize raffle. Every time a student attends an intervention organised for them in any subject they collect tickets to be placed into a prize draw. The more they attend, the greater chance they have of winning.
This is an exciting and challenging time for Year 11 and we will do all we can to ensure our students are ready. We have lots planned for them, including a residential trip to Leicester University….. so watch this space.

The focus for all of us this fortnight is to “Participate fully in lessons”.
Stars of the week: Lucy & Katie Peake for winning “Felixstowe’s got Talent” and Cameron Bridge for reaching the final of the same competition.
Holmes:
This term we have been enjoying the chance to celebrate the success of students at the Academy by awarding House Points and Reward Room points. House Points are awarded to students who contribute positively to learning in lessons and to the academy community. Reward Room points are given when students demonstrate an outstanding commitment to learning in lessons. Well done to Connor Woolston (8CHH), Nathaniel Bourne (7CLN) and Marvin Matherson (10DSL) for gaining enough Reward Room points to use the Rewards Room. Huge congratulations also go to Holmes students Shannon Jones (8CHH), Rebecca Brame (7CLN) and Alice Walden (9AFG) for breaking the 100 House Point barrier! Best wishes to all Holmes students for a relaxing Easter break.
Redgrave:
Congratulations to Rose Gant who is closing in on 150 House Points and to Chloe Beaumont who won the £50 cheque from the Bank of Endeavour for achieving the most House Points last month! Overall 74 students in our house have achieved 50 or more House Points!
Tyler Uchekwo has excelled as an ambassador for the Academy. The last group of parents she showed around the Academy all spoke of how articulate and knowledgeable she was.
Please encourage your children to give their ideas to our Form Captains. They meet together with Tyler Uchekwo (House Captain) and Jasmine Compton(House Vice Captain) each week to discuss ideas and ways to make life here at OEA even better.

Student Voice:
It’s been a busy few weeks for Student Voice.
The house badges designed by Jamie Crocker in year 9 are currently being manufactured and will be ready to go out after the Easter holidays.
The new rewards system is working well, Student voice are happy with it, but have suggested some changes to further improve rewards.
The Landscaping near the Design Technology classrooms is making excellent progress and the coloured benches and area for sculptures that the students suggested are looking great!
Next steps: Develop a joint project working with Thomas Wolsey student voice and develop a peer mentoring programme.

25th April GCSE PE Practical exam
I thought I would take the opportunity to let you know of the achievements of our year 10 college students.
Jack Roche, Jak Stansfield, Ryan Reilly and Harry Sand-
ford are to be congratulated for their participation in a
conference event at Suffolk One today.
Firstly, we all had to prepare and cook a combination of dishes such as chilli, potato salad, sausage lattice, cole-
slaw and fruit salad. After a quick break there was a mammoth task of washing up before Harry and Ryan
were whisked off with some of the other students to help
serve the guests their meals. I watched them as they spoke to some of the people there and they conducted
themselves with maturity and respect to everyone. They did us proud!!
Afterwards we all had to wash up a never-ending stack of plates and cutlery. Everyone got involved then enjoyed
some of the leftovers!
I could see that they enjoyed themselves. Meanwhile Ryan was the star as he had to make a speech to the
visitors. He was nervous but did brilliantly!
Congratulations to these students!!
Richard Smith
On 15th March a group of 45 year 9 students visited the
Big Bang Science Fair at the EXCEL centre in London. The
students had a fantastic time learning about new
technologies and being amazed by the explosive stage
shows! The students were a real credit to the Academy
and their behaviour was exemplary!
Students’ thoughts on the day
The shows were good and there was lots of things to see and do—
Francesca Kirby
We got to browse and take part in the activities they had provided
for us. They were interactive and gave us freebies ! It was a great
day and I would love to do it again— Nicole Manners
There were plenty of stalls to keep us occupied with lots of freebies
- Lauren Foxhall
The Brainiac show was really good. The office chairs and explosions
were fun—Daisy Reed
It was enjoyable and fun. The live shows were absolutely astonish-
ing with the explosions in Brainiac and the world record attempts
live. The different activities were fun as well with interactions
whether its building molecular structures or doing quizzes. I loved it.
- Chole Button Even Darth Vader made an appearance!
Civic Engagement Day
A group of students visited Westbourne Sports College
and were congratulated on their polite, considerate,
respectful behaviour and their grasp of the issues that
were tackled. The first half of the session was a
combination of politics bingo, a questionnaire regarding
how they would change or improve things if they were
Prime Minister and also how they would go about
spending £200,000 to alter the town centre market area.
The latter was done in groups.
The second half was carried out as a debate. The students
had to select five issues out of a list of ten that they
believed were the most important and rank them. The
response was overwhelmingly to debate same-sex
marriages and whether they should be allowed. It was a
remarkable debate. Both sides argued their points very
well and in the manner in which it would be discussed if
they were in Parliament. It demonstrated an excellent
understanding of the issues and they were put across in a
very mature and controlled manner. All students seemed
to enjoy it and it was obvious it was quite a contentious
issue.
Students to be congratulated are: Rochelle Denton,
Megan Payne, Kelvin Ward, Maria Morais, Mehjaben
Rahmen and Reanne Stankewicz.
Red Nose Day 2013 at Endeavour
Wow, what a fantastic day. We were so impressed
to see all the amazing costumes that both staff and
students dared to wear! There was a great
atmosphere in school and everyone gave
generously. A special mention goes to Meghan
Robinson and Hannah Sherman for raising £135 by
doing a sponsored 2 mile run. Well done girls, a
really outstanding endeavour! The total raised was
£550. The best-dressed winners were:
Tiffany Hughes - Pirate Princess
Galahad Rounding - Gandalf
James Kirby Jones - Willy Wonka
Macauley Bunn - Sumo Suit
Ms Hausch for her Umpa Lumpa costume and
Mr Prior for his very scary Heath Ledger as the
Joker costume. We look forward as a school to
doing more events to raise money. Watch this
space for more information!
