Empire Bay Drive and Scenic Road intersection upgrade Project update March 2018 Latest news Residents will now have a chance to comment on the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and the concept design for the project. The REF outlines the key features of the proposal, the key objectives and the options considered by Roads and Maritime along with the proposal’s environmental impact. The REF and concept design will be on display between Monday 19 March and Friday 13 April. Documents can be viewed on the Roads and Maritime website project page at rms.nsw.gov.au/projects; or at Central Coast Council’s Gosford Office and the Kincumber Library. Background Roads and Maritime Services is planning to upgrade the intersection of Empire Bay Drive, The Scenic Road and Cochrone Street at Kincumber. Empire Bay Drive is one lane in each direction, with the existing roundabout at the intersection also one lane. The existing arrangement creates delays for motorists and a substantial impact on traffic flow during morning and afternoon peak and Saturday mornings. The NSW government has provided $1.5 million in 2017/18 for planning and design work to upgrade the roundabout at this intersection. Key features Some of the key features of the proposal, as outlined in the REF, include: upgrading the roundabout from one lane to two lanes two lanes in each direction on Empire Bay Drive two lanes on approach from The Scenic Road including a dedicated right turn lane a right turn lane into Sundowner Avenue from Empire Bay Drive northbound traffic controlled pedestrian lights north of the intersection left access only onto Empire Bay Drive from Shipwrights Lane, which would revert into a one way street eastbound a new three metre wide shared pathway on both sides of Empire Bay Drive from Kincumber Creek to the intersection of Empire Bay Drive and The Scenic Road an indented bus stop on Empire Bay Drive northbound, north of the intersection relocating the existing southbound bus stop on Empire Bay Drive south of The Scenic Road, to just north of Bridge Street new pavement of local roads of up to 50 metres on Cochrone Street and The Scenic Road. Project benefits improve and provide consistent travel times, whilst reducing congestion along Empire Bay Drive support economic growth and productivity by providing road capacity for current and projected traffic volumes encourage active transport by providing appropriate facilities for walking and cycling reduce queuing on Empire Bay Drive that extends onto Avoca Drive • improve motorist safety provide safer pedestrian and cyclist facilities near the intersection. BackgroundRoads and Maritime Services is planning to upgrade the intersection of Empire Bay Drive, The Scenic Road and Cochrone Street at Kincumber.

Empire Bay Drive is one lane in each direction, with the existing roundabout at the intersection also one lane.

The existing arrangement creates delays for motorists and a substantial impact on traffic flow during morning and afternoon peak and Saturday mornings.

• a new three metre wide shared pathway on both sides of Empire Bay Drive from Kincumber Creek to the intersection of Empire Bay Drive and The Scenic Road

• an indented bus stop on Empire Bay Drive northbound, north of the intersection

• relocating the existing southbound bus stop on Empire Bay Drive south of The Scenic Road, to just north of Bridge Street
