Ancillary Tasks• The combination of both the ancillary tasks and the film product work really well

together and are very effective. The poster and magazine help to gain publicity for the film making the audience want to watch the film after seeing the ancillary tasks.

• The magazine was used to review what the film was about and give the reader a small insight on what the film is about. The magazine conventions also help the audience to want to watch, such as the ratings the film is given.

• The magazine is also used to give an insight into the creation of the film, by showing this it will make the audience interested about the film.

• The poster is used to show the audience again an insight into the film through the use of photos and the tagline. These both help to gain the audiences attention.

• Together the poster and magazine are used to entice the audience to want to watch the film through what they have seen and what they have read.

Target Audience Research

We created a marketing research questionnaire to get some idea of what sort of genres, programmes and media teens our age are into.

•We created a brainstorm to begin with and thought up our own ideas of what we thought our target audience would be interested in, what programmes they watch, their interests and even their social activities.

• We did this before creating the film, just to get a more overall general view on things and to help us make our film more appealing to our target audience.

How research impacted on our

planning

Page 9: Emma and Kym’s Final Presentation

Marketing •Through our research we have tried to use and adopt other people’s ideas within our production stage of the film.

•We researched in to advertisement and what campaigns big blockbuster films use.

• Out of the list (on the right hand side) we have used four of these ideas to promote our film: poster, magazine, interview and website (YouTube).

Short Films

• Also through research we have learnt about what makes a good short film.

• We watched many short films from different people and took some of the main ideas from these short films and added them to our own ideas.

• Such as a silent film, having it in black and white, having the film mean something (to make a point and make the audience think), camera shots and more.

Page 11: Emma and Kym’s Final Presentation

Another way our research has impacted our planning is the research for our ancillary tasks.

•We adopted some of the magazine and posters conventions and added them to our own products.

•Such as page numbers, website, backstage photos and more.

• Also the main layout used in most posters we decided to use for our own poster, and the same with the magazine.

Impacting on our Ancillary Tasks

How you were more creative in the

presentation of your work (use of digital cameras/

blogs/stop-frame animations, use of

software etc)

Blogs• When it came to presentation of our work we decided to be really creative to make it more interesting for us, the teachers and the examiners to read.

• The main creative thing we did was to put all our work on to a blog.

• By having it on a blog it makes it more interesting as you can have a background image to see and can upload anything onto the blog.

• Also it is more accessible to read, as you can see it from any phone with internet or computer.

• The main reason for a blog is that we can constantly change and update our work without out re-printing the page, which saves a lot of time and money.

Page 14: Emma and Kym’s Final Presentation

Creative Use...• We were also creative by using power points and hand drawn mind maps to show the research for our work, by doing it in another format instead of writing makes it more interesting to read and can be very colourful.

• We used digital cameras to present our work, so we can capture all the backstage action for people to see and show how we have created the film.

• Also it was useful in the location recce and costume & props list as it gave the reader an actual image as well as a descriptive one so they understand what we are talking about.

Page 15: Emma and Kym’s Final Presentation

Creative Use• The use and creation of many different media technologies really helped us to produce our film, as well as help with everything else we had to do.

• We used many different types of media to help us create, plan, research and evaluate our short film; in fact I don’t think we used anything that wasn’t modern technology with the exception of paper and pens.

• Computers became our best friends and so did our blogs that we made on blogger.com. We kept, typed, created, embedded codes and analysed everything on our blogs. We scanned in pictures of mind maps, storyboards and other work we had done, used publisher to create our poster and mini picture diary, as well as our original marketing questionnaire.

• Obviously we used Microsoft to type everything up first before pasting it onto our blogs and used PowerPoint to create more interesting evaluations, research and analysis.

• The adobe premier software we had at college was very dysfunctional (to say the least) so we had no choice really but to use windows movie maker.

Page 16: Emma and Kym’s Final Presentation

Creative use

• We used firework adobe Photoshop to edit and create the poster. We took several pictures then edited them, made a choice on our poster photo then continued using the Photoshop to add the rest.

• When we did work at home, we would go on Facebook chat or msn so we could stay in contact with each other during work and also use our mobiles.

• We used Emma’s digital camera to take behind the scenes pictures of when we were making the film and sometimes our phones if we didn’t have a camera with us.

Page 17: Emma and Kym’s Final Presentation

Production CalendarWe created a production calendar and a shooting and acting schedule in hope that we could stick to what we have planned so that everything would run smoothly. However not everything went to plan.

• We had issues with filming on some days from actors could not make it in and technical problems with the camera.

• We did try and overcome these by scheduling into our production calendar and shooting and acting schedule other filming days.

• Apart from a few issues like that we believe the planning process went really well.

• We believe that after all the computer problems with editing, we finally edited our film really well and completed it roughly on time

Conclusion of our Short Film 7 Deadly Sins

• We believe our final film was a success.

• Although there are small changes we would like to make to it if we had the chance to improve or remake it such as: the running scenes, the fact that we could only find one person to play two roles, possible costume changes, the end credits and small continuity errors.

•We realise now that we did everything we possibly could in the time that we had.

• We both think we have worked hard to get our blogs and film up to a high standard and hope it is enough for us to receive good grades for this coursework unit. We are happy with our poster and wouldn’t make any changes to it.

•We wanted the poster to be simple, but with enough information to intrigue teenagers, we wanted it to have an air of mystery.

• We are also happy with our magazine review, we think it looks like a proper online blog magazine and we got to use the other photo that we edited for the poster (so thankfully it didn’t go to waste).

• We tried to keep a theme running through the film, poster and magazine.
