INTRODUCTION

A crash cart is the trolley for storinglifesaving equipment and drugs in ahospital emergency room, intensive careunit, clinics and other areas. The cart is

characterized by being easily movableand readily accessible into all sides of thecart for quickly viewing and removingequipment and drugs during a crisis

situation.

 The contents of a crash cart vary fromhospital to hospital, but typically containthe tools and drugs needed to treat aperson in or near cardiac arrest. These

include but are not limited to: •Monitor/defibrillators and suction

devices

•Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)drugs such as Epinephrine, Atropine,Amiodarone, Lidocaine, Sodiumbicarbonate, Dopamine, and Vasopressin

GENERAL INFORMATION:

1.A Licensed Staff member as designatedby the head of the department isresponsible for checking the crash cart,

oxygen cylinder levels, defibrillator, and

documenting compliance on crashcart checklist.

2.Each emergency cart is equipped with alock and kept locked unless in use.

3.If the lock is not intact, the cart is to bechecked and unit personnel will replaceany missing supplies.

CONCLUSION:

Crash cart is a specially designed

trolley, used for transporting anddispensing medicines and equipments atthe emergency site for participating inlife saving measures. Crash carts are

located in areas of patient care in case of a life-threatening occurrence. Physicians,nurses, pharmacists, and respiratorytherapists must become familiar with thecontents of this cart.
