What is the GAT?• The GAT is used to check your school and

external based assessments have been accurately and fairly assessed

• The GAT used in the calculation of a derived exam score – it’s an insurance policy

• Whilst you can’t study for the GAT, you can do past papers to become familiar with the type of questions

Writing Task 1Will present written and graphical information in colour. You will be asked to write a piece that presents the main information in this material. You should not present an argument in your response. You will be assessed only on your writing skills and not any extra knowledge you may have about the material. Writing Task 1 will be judged on: • how well you organise and present your understanding of the material • how effectively you communicate the information • how clearly you express yourself

Writing Task 2Will present some statements on an issue. You will be asked to develop a piece of writing presenting a point of view on the issue, based on one or more of the statements. You can include other knowledge or information you may have to support your view. You should aim to present your reasons and arguments to support your view and to rebut opposing ideas. You should also aim to communicate clearly and effectively to the reader. Writing Task 2 will be judged on: • the extent to which you develop your point of view in a reasonable and convincing way • how effectively you express yourself.

Multiple choice• The multiple-choice questions will cover

mathematics, science, technology, humanities, the arts and social sciences. There will be 70 questions in this section, which will take about two hours to complete. You should attempt every question. Marks will not be deducted for incorrect answers.

• You must use a pencil on the answer page for multiple-choice question

GAT – what you need• To be lined up outside library OR sports centre

(weather permitting) at least 15 minutes before• ID which has your student number on it.• IF you use other ID, you must have your student

number from the timetable (this will be distributed in tutor group)

• Stationery – pencil, eraser, sharpener and pen –NO WHITEOUT – NO PENCIL CASES –clear bag if you have to

• Clear bottle – no labels• Dictionary – no annotations• No electronic devices• No HATS. Make sure you wear layers to keep warm.

If you ask for materials on the day• You will pay $1 to the Mission Action Day

Special provision• If you are ill or there is an exceptional

circumstance on the day of the GAT you must contact Ms. Lochery – Put this number in your phone:0419 588 462

If you are injured before the GAT such as broken arm etc, you need to see Ms Lochery for a form to complete GAT on computer
