We chose the month of November as it coincides with the United Naons Universal Childrens Day, which was established in 1954 and is celebrated on November 20 to promote internaonal togetherness, awareness among chil- dren worldwide, and improving children's welfare. We want to build a world where every child is in school, safe from harm and can fulfil their potenal, and we know you do too. So, this year the world is going blue! Look out for more informaon from you class teacher about how our students can join in! On this day we will also be holding A PTA bake sale, so please send baked goods into school and join us at 14:00. As we bring aenon to rights, we will always remind students that along with a right must always come a responsi- bility and so please support us by taking this opportunity to encourage all to reach the targets set during your recent parent/teacher meengs. If you have not yet had the opportunity to meet with the class/subject teacher, please do not hesitate to be in touch as working together we can always achieve so much more. As well as looking forward to next week, we would also like to reflect on our last charity project World Food Day. On Monday ten large boxes of food will be collected and distributed to our charity partner MPC. In order to celebrate the end of our food drive, we welcomed a local farmer to school to share her views on farming in Moscow. The chil- dren enjoyed geng to meet one of her lambs (see our Facebook page for more news) Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, Kind regards Nicola Hemingway

Dear All,

You may have heard our students discussing turning the world blue and be wondering what they are talking about… Well, here at EIS, each year during the month of November, we focus us the rights and responsibilities of our stu-dents. We chose the month of November as it coincides with the United Nations Universal Children’s Day, which was established in 1954 and is celebrated on November 20 to promote international togetherness, awareness among chil-dren worldwide, and improving children's welfare.

We want to build a world where every child is in school, safe from harm and can fulfil their potential, and we know you do too. So, this year the world is going blue! Look out for more information from you class teacher about how our students can join in! On this day we will also be holding A PTA bake sale, so please send baked goods into school and join us at 14:00.

As we bring attention to rights, we will always remind students that along with a right must always come a responsi-bility and so please support us by taking this opportunity to encourage all to reach the targets set during your recent parent/teacher meetings.

The chil-dren enjoyed getting to meet one of her lambs (see our Facebook page for more news)

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Kind regards

Nicola Hemingway

Welcome back to our Celebrations unit! We started the unit last week, learning about the

Festival of Light, Diwali and we had great fun making our own lights for the celebration. This

week we have been looking at the sparkly stars shining in the sky and talking about night

time and day time. We are learning lots of songs about stars too!

Nursery

It’s time to party! This week we have been decorating our role play corner with balloons and

bunting to turn it into a celebration area. We have been busy learning the Macarena dance

and the Months of the Year song that accompanies it. We have been trying to remember

when our special birthday month is and replying to the question ‘How old are you?’ in a full

sentence. Excitingly, we had our Year 5 Learning Buddies visiting and they helped us to count

to 20 and to make some posters for our display.

During our Topic Unit this week Year 1 are learning all about Celebrations. We are studying In-

dia and its cultures as part of our Celebrations Unit. The children had a great time learning

about Diwali. Diwali originated in India as a celebration of light, in fact the word Diwali comes

from “Deepavali”, meaning “row of lamps.” Therefore, Year 1 made many colourful Diwali

lamps and we also decorated our classroom with sparkling lights.

Year 1

Year 2 had a busy week! For our Celebrations Topic we have started learning about the Win-

ter Solstice. It is the darkest the day of the year and celebrated on the 21st of December. In

Science we are learning about different materials. We enjoyed finding interesting materials in

our classroom and home. In English lessons we have been looking for verbs in sentences and

changing verbs from present tense to past tense. In Art, we completed our beautiful winter

mosaics and Celtic knot art. Flat Stanley is continuing on his journey around the world. We

love seeing photographs of his many adventures!

This week was kindness week, and Year 3 really enjoyed receiving a compliment to start their day

this week. It was great to see their faces light up, as they read that they were appreciated, and val-

ued. To help support this in class we looked at the importance of using kind words, and used paper

to explore the damage that unkindness can do to a person. Year 3 certainly learnt the lesson that

kindness is the best way! In art this week we have also been beginning to explore the artist Pablo

Picasso, students this week really enjoyed exploring Cubism, and were able to begin to create their

own Cubistic drawings. I cannot wait to see what the end results will look like!

Another week down and starting to feel more like winter, in class we have kept the cold away by working hard in Maths looking at obtaining decimals by dividing numbers by 10, comparing decimals and fractions and finally moving onto 4-digit additions. In English we have recapped

our text, discussed the feelings of different character and begun to plan a letter from one char-acter to another. In Science, we’ve been covering the different needs of plants, humans and animals and working out we all need for life on Earth. In Topic we have covered some facts

about China to put into context for our celebration-specific work next week.

Year 5 has delved into an exciting new literacy unit this week—Poetry! We have been

building our knowledge of literary and descriptive devices that are used in poems, and

what better way to start than by looking at similes. We have written some fantastic poems

about lions and other animals of our own choosing. In Maths, we have revised our

understanding of how to calculate equivalent fractions, and as you can see in the

photos below, the children had great fun assembling fraction walls to help with

comparing fraction amounts.

Year 5

Year Six have started a new unit on poetry this week and have been reading poems by

Ted Hughes, they have enjoyed reading his different styles of poems and look forward to

creating their own poems in the coming weeks. In Math’s the children have been

reviewing fractions and have been practicing ordering different types of fractions.

On Wednesday 7th November, Year 5 at West teamed up with South-West for a

fantastic excursion at the Moscow Planetarium! We had the opportunity to interact

with a range of science exhibitions in the Lunarium that linked with our ‘Earth and

Space’ unit. We learnt about the solar system and universe in more detail, and the

various forces that act upon the planets and galaxy. The movie in the 4D Cinema also

provided us with a unique, memorable experience which we all really enjoyed. We

loved learning about all the amazing astronomical objects and events in our universe!
