Model Making Demo and Exhibition Sunday 1st. June 12.00pm Workshop with Model Makers Andy Keating, Ger Walsh and friends at the Geopark Centre Bunmahon. Learn how to create your own models of buildings /people/landscape etc. Upcycling everyday items is a fun way to reuse materials and reduce our footprint. With a little and imagination and creativity you can turn everyday objects into magnificent models. Admission: €2.00

A landmark restored! The old church is now the new centre for Bunmahon and for the whole Copper Coast area, for visitors and for the community – a place where we can get together and pull together the strands of our community and heritage and culture. The Copper Coast is a member of the European and Global Geoparks Network – which gives us the potential to attract visitors and make friends from around the world; it gives us a profile all over Europe and Asia – notably China. We have received generous funding through Waterford Leader Partnership, but to achieve this we have also promised to put up a matching proportion (25%), to which we must add whatever it takes to get the centre on its feet and earning its keep. And while we hope to support the Copper Coast Geopark Centre through a modest charge for our exhibition and the small café and shop there is, at least initially, a bigger pot that needs to be filled. So we need friends and we need funds! GB3GEO will be on the air during the weekend of 24th and 25th May Operation is on 80 metres to 2 metres. Here in Ireland, South Eastern Amateur Radio Club will be QRV from Tankardstown, Bonmahon, Co. Waterford.

Coast

Presentation by Andrew Harrington MISE Project Officer, Waterford County Council Waterford’s Copper Coast hosts a great variety of habitats, providing a home for many of Ireland’s native wild mammals. The Mammals in a Sustainable Environment (MISE) Project has been carrying out survey work on mammals in Co. Waterford since 2011 and the Copper Coast and the surrounding inland areas have been at the epicentre of much of the work the MISE Project has carried out. This talk will focus on the wild-life of the Copper Coast and some of the work that the MISE Project has carried out here, in particular on red squirrels, pine martens, stoats, otters and bats. Monday 26th.May 8.00pm Opening night of the KAP (kite aerial photography) Art and Archaeology Schools Project at the medieval site of Dunhill Castle by Stella Maris 5thYear Students, Tramore This award winning project combines various disciplines including science, art, geography and history. The aim of the project was to investigate a local cultural heritage site using a combination of KAP, ground photography and sketches. All of these activities including a historical lecture on site were all part of our visit of Dunhill Castle, culminating in this wonderful exhibition in the Geopark Centre. Bunmahon Exhibition will run from Monday to Saturday
