Over the last few years Edinburgh Airport has grown. Over 3.5 million people have used the airport over the last four years.

Managing noise at Edinburgh Airport is really important to our local communities.

Noise Action Plan

What we will do?

Edinburgh Airport will work with airlines that use the airport to make sure that new aircraft flying from Edinburgh Airport are more friendly for the environment.

Edinburgh Airport will:

• carry on checking how clean the air is at Edinburgh airport and work with our partners to make sure pollution is kept low.

• fine aircraft that break noise limits.

• work with our partners to make lower noise.

• work with our partners to look at how we can make airports better at managing noise.

Draft Noise Action Plan 2018-2023

The sections below tell you what we will do to reduce noise and how we will do it. We would like to know what you think of our plans.

1: Show that Edinburgh airport is doing everything it can to lower noise.

• carry on looking at different technologies to lower air traffic noise.

When will this happen?

This work will happen from 2018.

How many people will this affect?

This will affect 13,800 people.

Edinburgh Airport will:

• set up a free phone number which people can use to ask questions about aircraft noise or make a complaint.

• write a report every 3 months about aircraft noise. This will be available on the Edinburgh Airport website.

2: Work with local communities that are affected by noise so we can understand what they are worried about and what is important to them in the future.

2018-2023

• look at how we communicate with the local community to make sure our information is easy to understand.

• write a report about the complaints we get about noise.

• if people complain, we will let people know we have recieved their complaint within two working days and make sure we reply in full within 5 working days.

• write a report about the consultation showing what people said.

• if aircraft break noise limits and are fined, the money raised from this will be paid into the Edinburgh Airport Community Board.

• write a newsletter to the local community that tells people about aircraft noise.

Edinburgh Airport will:

• work with local planning authorities to make sure they know about aircraft noise and that this is thought about when planning.

• carry on writing plans about future aircraft noise.

• hold meetings every 3 months to look at noise and the complaints we have received.

Edinburgh Airport will:

• carry on working with Sustainable Aviation and local partners to understand aircraft noise and how this affects other areas of Edinburgh airport.
