ICAS Computer Skills Competition Students who are sitting the Computer Skills Exam on Tuesday 21st May will need to have a ruler,

eraser, and a 2B or B pencil. These are available before school at the school office.

Music Room News Jeremy Hantler is our new music teacher. He has a First Class honours degree in Jazz

Performance drumming, a Diploma in Primary Teaching, and is passionate about fostering

creativity in our children. Mr Hantler has recently completed Level 1 Orff Training, a University

affiliated professional development course inspired by the research and teaching style of Carl Orff.

This approach aims to re-connect music with speech, dance, drama, and visual arts; while

encouraging children to rehearse, compose, and perform at all stages of musical literacy. It is a

fun way to engage children with the music curriculum, and gives them access to many mediums

they can use to express themselves.

If you are interested in helping out with the music programme with materials/home workshop/

instrumental skills/great ideas – please don’t hesitate to email him at [email protected].

Update of contact details

It is important that the office has correct details so we are able to contact you if your child is unwell and

correspondence can be sent to the correct address.

Please phone the school by 8.30am if your child is absent from school. Phone 846 6340 and push 1 for

the absentee line. Please leave your child’s full name, room number and reason for absence.

For change of pickup arrangements for school, please contact the office by telephone before 2pm.

Please do not text the school, as phones are not monitored for incoming text messages.

Garden to Table

With autumn upon us we are in the process of planting our winter and spring crops,

broccoli, peas, spinach and silverbeet, cabbage and broad beans. We still have plenty of

root crops and herbs to get us through our cooking sessions with some unusual crops

such asyakon, celeriac, Jerusalem and salsify to try! Jodie has been teaching the children about different plant families (eg leafy greens, legumes, fruit,

root crops, tubers) these are plants that are grouped together that have similar needs like water, soil

pH and sun. In the kitchen we have been baking feijoa, apple and banana crumble using up the feijoas from

our orchard and Sarah’s garden, and our frozen bananas from the orchard, the perfect dish for the

cooler days! Our focus has been on bread, its origins and what part yeast plays in the making of bread, we learnt

about proving and kneading and the results were delicious carrot and sunflower seed bread rolls. We are wanting to plant potatoes in the green house, if you have any spare clean 10 litre plastic paint

pots we would appreciate them you can leave by our Garden to table shed. We still have spaces available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for volunteers, if you are interested in

any of the days we would love to hear from you, please contact [email protected]

Sarah and Jodie

We’re 104 years old on 29 May!

We celebrate our 104th birthday in two weeks time! All teams are planning fun activities for students

during one learning block of the day, including talking about what school was like in ‘the old days’. I’m

going to bring some ‘Janet and John’ reading books and stamps to share with Year 0-1 students, from

my early school days at Model Country, Epsom (now Kohia Terrace School). You might like to talk with

your own children about your schooling from your primary school years!
