Easter in Poland
Easter holiday is a special period in the
year. Catholic Church recognizes this holiday as the most important
in the whole year. Majority of Poles
participate in church services and many
families come together to celebrate.
There were many traditions connected
to this period and some of them are
being kept to today. Girls wait for Wet
Monday to let boys pour water on them. It
assures girls to find the right boys in
future.
Of course these holidays are
preceded by the period of special arrangements,
the part of us is doing many houseworks,
even not realizing that
they are included in a
tradition, because they
symbolise removing tracks of the winter and at the same time evil and illness
from our houses.
We also prepare the food to bless on Easter which we take in a nice decorated baskets to
the church. We always put colourfuly painted eggs which
are symbols of a new life, a lamb usually made of
chocolate or sugar. The lamb symbolises the exhausted Christ. We also take bread, cold cooked meat, pepper and salt, festive cakes. On
Easter table next to meat and cakes we place the basket with the blessed food The
Easter breakfast starts with sharing the egg , it is similar in its form and the symbolism for Christmas breaking with
wafer.
