FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Term 2 certainly has gone by very quickly. It has been busy as usual and many things have happened. Mrs Paterson has taken LSL and I will continue in her role until she re-turns.
Next term will see a restructure of classes to accommodate our new Kindy/PP class. I will notify parents of changes that may affect their child. Staff have been busy cleaning and organising for this to take place.
I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and look forward to Term 3.
Jennifer Oversby.
CONSTABLE CARE
On the 24th May, our students at-
tended the Constable Care incursion
along with their mainstream peers.
The senior students attended a per-
formance called Screen Name,
which uses the world of online gam-
ing as the backdrop for a timely re-
minder for students about making
sure they stay safe on the Internet.
The junior students attended a per-
formance called Fun Scary, which
teaches students the difference be-
tween scary things that are fun (like
rollercoasters) and those scary se-
crets that we need to tell a trusted
adult.
APPLE STRUDEL
The students in Room 14 took
advantage of the wonderful do-
nation of green apples that were
given to the centre and made
apple strudel.
Initially, the students were involved in
a discussion of ingredients and steps
that they would be doing and com-
pleted a cut and paste activity. Then
the excitement started and they were
all involved in peeling and grating the
green apples. They combined the
apples to a mixture of sugar, cinna-
mon, berries and sultanas and an
adult cooked this mixture on the
stove. The students were then in-
volved in placing the apple mixture
into the pastry to make little parcels.
Mrs Grech brought in her strudel
maker, which works a little like a
sandwich press. We all had a turn at
watching the apple strudel cook.
They smelt so good whilst they were
cooking and tasted scrumptious. The
apple strudel was enjoyed by most of
the staff and students who wished to
have a taste.

BATMAN LEGO MOVIE & FREMANTLE LUNCH
On the 1st of June, selected students from Rooms 13 and 14 attended the Lego Batman movie at
Reading cinemas in Belmont. The wonderful Lions Cancer Institute as part of their annual Children’s
Big Day Out sponsored this. Following this, the students and staff were treated to a fish and chip
lunch at Sweetlips in Fremantle, hosted by our gracious hosts Alex Ogg and Danika Gusmeroli, from
the Western Australian Fishing Industry Council. The students had a fabulous day and were out-
standing representatives for EVPESC.

TECHNOLOGY – TUCK SHOP
COOKING
Over the term, Room 13
has been cooking items
inspired by classic fairy tales. We have made
sushi for the Fisher and his Wife, spinach
and goat’s cheese pies for the Three Billy
Goats Gruff, bean quesadillas for Jack and
the Beanstalk and pizzas in the shape of a
gingerbread man for, you guessed it...The
Gingerbread Man. This gave the children an
opportunity to try different foods and allowed
them to practise life skills also, such as grat-
ing, cutting, rolling with rolling pin and a sushi
mat, and of course learn how to clean up af-
terwards. All dishes were delicious and gob-
bled up by the student, just as Mr Fox from
the Gingerbread Man did.
Chomp, chomp, and yummo!
LAMB VISIT—26th JUNE On Monday, Ms Oversby brought in a special
visitor for the students to look after. One of
her sheep had a lamb on Sunday and would
not look after it, so Ms Oversby had to bring
her to school. We made her a pen in the un-
dercover area and filled it with hay for her to
sleep on.
Beth decided she was a farmer and it was
her job to feed Patches– so named because
she had a pirate patch on one eye! Ashton
was kept busy making sure she was okay
and let Ms Oversby know when he thought
she needed another bottle!

LITERACY—GINGERBREAD
MAN PUPPET RE-TELL
The students from Room 13 had fun in week
9 re-telling the story of the Gingerbread Man.
After viewing several versions of the story,
they created pop-stick puppets and after
some practise, retold the key events in se-
quence to their classmates. Each student
was able to work at a level suitable to his or
her development. Older students were en-
couraged to put their own twist on the story.
Younger classmates had support using and
articulating the repeated phrase from the sto-
ry, as well as correctly sequencing the
events. All students found this activity engag-
ing, enjoyable and very entertaining.
ABSENT FROM SCHOOL—
LEAVE PASS (ARRIVE LATE/
LEAVE EARLY)
Could parents please sign students in and out of
school if arriving late or leaving early. All parents
need to advise the Admin when on school site.
Thank you.

OUR NEW KINDY ROOM
It is with great excitement that we have now a
specialised kindergarten/Pre Primary class-
room. Term 3 will see the restructure take
place, with Room 11 allocated for this. Clas-
ses will be reduced in numbers, which will
allow for greater learning outcomes. More to
come on this!

FRUIT BOXES
Every week, we are grateful to the
St Mary’s and Archangel Michael
Coptic Orthodox Church — who
donate fresh fruit for the students
to snack on. Thank you!
CANTEEN CLOSURE: Please be aware that the P&C has made the decision to close the canteen until a viable solution can be found. Special days will continue during the term and students will be advised when these will occur. The P&C are looking into several options at the moment.
