Decorating your interior space doesn’t have to be an expensive, time-consuming task that makes

you break into a cold sweat and panic at the sheer thought of taking on the task. There are many options and designs that you can choose using existing furniture and thrift

store fi nds. You can make antiques or tired pieces new again with a little love and imagination. Keep these few points in mind when sourcing items for your space and you will make your experience a fun, smooth one.

Scale: Put together a simple plan of of your space before you get started.

Start with all of the wall, window and door measurements. Draw in any existing furniture pieces that you wish to use and then make a place for those that you are going to source. It helps a great deal to have your size requirements before you hit the streets on the hunt for hidden treasures. Once you spot something in a store, online or at a garage sale you can quickly reference your measurements and immediately

know if the piece will be right for the space.

Lines: Look for furniture pieces and accessories with great lines and design to them. Try to picture them in a solid colour, distressed or spruced up. Paint and a little fabric can go a long way to making a great change. If you have ever worked with me before you have probably heard me say, “Paint it black!” or “Paint it white!” You can completely revive a tired wood piece with a fresh coat of paint. It makes an antique somewhat contemporary and allows it to blend into your new colour scheme. Don’t underestimate the classics.

Structure: Look for pieces that are solid wood, built well and still have many years left to their life span. You

don’t want to go to a bunch of work DIYing an object, only to have it fall apart underneath you. Some pieces may really be at the end of their life. Move on to the next.

A total of 734 properties sold in the Victoria Real Estate Board region this October, an increase of 21.9% compared to the 602 properties sold in the same month last year.

There were 3,170 active listings for sale on the Victoria Real Estate Board Multiple Listing Service® at the end of October, 19.3% fewer than the 3,927 active listings in October 2014.

This is the twenty-ninth month in a row that we’ve seen monthly sales increase over the year before. This month we also saw sales numbers surpass the total for last year - in 2014 there were 6,698 sales and as of October 31, 2015 there are 7,257 sales on record with two months to go in 2015! We’re looking down the home stretch of 2015 and there is no sign of a market slow down.

The Multiple Listing Service® Home Price Index benchmark value for a single family home in the Victoria core last year in October was $555,900. The benchmark value for the same home in October 2015 has increased by 9.4% to $608,200.

What’s my advice to buyers shopping for their perfect home? It’s critical to work closely with your REALTOR® to stay on top of the market. With home sales almost at the pace of new listings, the market is moving quickly and some homes in high demand areas like the Victoria core are selling in days.
