COVID-19 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mandatory Show Grounds Rules for the Sunnyside Open Horse Show are as follows:

1) To be able to participate at the show and for back numbers to be assigned, the following COVID-19 WAIVER must be signed and included with each person in your group, whether they are showing or not:

“COVID-19 Waiver and Release of Liability Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement”

The COVID-19 Waiver (2-page document) is available for download at EastCoastHorses.com. Each person in your show group who will be on the premises at any time September 18, 19, 20, 2020 will download, sign, and submit the Waiver along with the entries. If you request a mailed copy of the Sunnyside Show program or entry form, we will include the requested number of copies you need of the COVID-19 Waiver.

2) Our “COVID-19 Suggested Guidelines” (single page) is available for download at EastCoastHorses.com. We ask all exhibitors and participants of the Sunnyside Open Horse Show to follow these guidelines and other possible guidance that may be issued as we get closer to show time.

3) Pre-entries: To help alleviate crowded conditions in the Show Office, pre-entries are strongly requested.

4) As time progresses and COVID-related circumstances change, updates to Show Grounds Rules for Sunnyside Open Horse Show during the COVID-19 health crisis will be:

• made public/alerted on our Facebook Page and EastCoastHorses.com, and

Please become familiar with the program, as these rules will apply throughout the show: RULEBOOK Exhibitors are responsible for reading the Sunnyside Rule Book for Complete Class and Division

Definitions and Descriptions; Cross Entry Rules; Show Rules and Regulations. The Rule Book is online at eastcoasthorses.com – please download your copy. If you do not have access to the Internet, call 252-799-0334 or 252-809-3687 and we'll be happy to mail a rule book to you.

CROSS ENTRY 2020 Rule Book contains information about Cross-Entry Rules for the following Divisions: Field Hunter, Huntseat, Western Pleasure, and Working Western Divisions.

COGGINS Have a negative Coggins certificate (issued within 12 months) for each horse available for barn managers to check as you arrive! Horses will not be allowed on the premises without a current negative Coggins certificate, as required by state law.

Stock/Hunter Type Horse: This includes all Quarter Horses, Paints, Appaloosas, Thoroughbreds, and any equine fitting this general classification (registration papers are not required). Offered in Halter, Western Pleasure, Field Hunter, Working Western, and Huntseat divisions.

Saddle Pleasure Type Horse: This includes all Saddlebreds, Morgans, Arabians, Friesians, Gypsy Vanners, Drafts, Gaited breeds and any equine fitting this general classification (registration papers are not required). Offered in Halter, Western Pleasure, Field Hunter, Working Western, and Huntseat divisions.

“Open” Classes: Classes designated as Open Classes refer to type of horse. Open classes may be entered by both Stock/Hunter and Saddle Pleasure type horses (Stock/Hunter type horses and Saddle Pleasure type horses will show together). Non-trotting / gaited horses may enter the Open Go-As-You-Please (GAYP) or Saddle Pleasure Type Go-As-You-Please (GAYP) classes that are outside the Non-Trotting Division. For any classes labeled “Walk-Trot” or “Walk-Jog”, a trot or jog will be required unless noted otherwise. For example, Trail, Dressage Suitability, Showmanship, Halter, and Interim Walk-Trot classes allow a pleasure gait in place of a jog/trot.

Pleasure Gait: For non-trotting breeds, the pleasure gait may be substituted for the jog or trot. See GAYP below. GAYP: Go As You Please. When “GAYP” is announced, select the gait of your choice (the jog or

trot, or the lope or canter; For non-trotting breeds, select your pleasure gait or lope/canter) – within one class, the gait you select must be performed both ways of the ring.

Novice Horse: Novice classes are open to horses which have not won three first place ribbons in any breed or open shows in the particular performance division in which they are shown. If novice status is broken during the show, the horse will retain that novice status until the close of the show. However, the horse may no longer ride in a novice class in any subsequent Sunnyside shows. In all cases, ribbons won within one section do not count in the reckoning of Novice status if the horse competes in a different section.

Maiden Rider or Horse: Maiden classes are open to riders or horses which have not won a first place in any breed or open shows in the particular performance division in which they are shown. If maiden status is broken during the show, the rider or horse will retain that maiden status until the close of the show. However, the rider or horse may no longer ride in a maiden class in any subsequent Sunnyside shows. In all cases, ribbons won within one section do not count in the reckoning of Maiden status if the rider or horse competes in a different section.

Amateur Class: These classes are offered for amateur riders only (horses may currently be in training with a professional trainer).

Jack Benny Class: Riders 39 and older. Junior Horse: Horses 5 years old and under as of January 1 this year. Curb bits are allowed. Miniature Equine: Any equine 38" and under. Mini horses, donkeys and mules welcome. Registration papers

not required. Mini driving horses are asked to drive only within the Miniature Equine driving classes.

Horse vs Pony Size Limit: 14.2 hands or under is classified as pony. This height restriction applies to driving classes only. Note: Miniature equines will be considered miniature, not pony.

Distinction of Horse vs. Pony in the Horse/Pony The height restriction for pony size limit (as stated above) will apply to all equines for the Driving Classes: Horse and Pony pleasure driving classes: Any equine 14.2 hands or under may only enter driving classes designated “pony." They may not enter driving classes designated “horse.” We trust that you will use the honor system with regards to entering classes specified for Novice and Maiden Riders or Horses, and Amateur Riders. Status of exhibitors may be checked periodically in an effort to maintain the integrity of these classes.
