EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAM

Term 2 has been an amazing time in EEPS! We have had lots of fun learning times particularly enjoying Education Week, Open Day and especially Pirate Day rrrrrrr! Ahoy there me hearty’s!

Early Education has eight amazing students altogether including Aryana, Erica, Fletcher, Ja-ga, Jordon, Logan, Sianna, Wyatt with Gale and Suzanne. Just thought we’d give you a little snapshot into our daily program.

Each morning students practice name and photo recognition and pre-writing activities. As you can see we are making great progress! We do lots of matching, at the ta-ble top, in the playground and especially at morning circle.

Sensory experimentation is high on our list of

favourite activities including switching, cause

and effect and tactile appreciation. Outside play can take many forms including the birds nest swing, climbing, the shop, the cubby, bike riding and ball skills all designed to teach a variety of skills including hand eye coordination, gross motor skills, shared play experience and imagination.

Our students are very musical playing quite a range of instruments, picking up the rhythm, acting out the movements of our favourite action songs, dance and us-ing the parachute for relaxation adding balloons to it for even more fun and to teach concept development.

Each day we work towards achieving the learning outcomes set for each student in their Personal Learning Plan. We practice in a variety of ways adding to our skill set, expanding our knowledge and enriching our lives.

As you can see Early Education is all about learning including which includes daily living skills, social skills, turn taking, sharing, following instructions and having lots of fun while we learn.

This term we had a huge achievement to celebrate - At the beginning of Term 2 Sianna began to walk independently and just look at her now!!!! Sensational Sianna!

And to celebrate our 30 years of Education at Mornington SDS here is a brief history of our school emblem. In February 1987 Mornington Special Developmental School commenced in the new but ‘temporary’ location in Roberston Drive and began to build it’s own entity. I held a competition to design a school insignia. The

The whole school community was invited to submit a design and then was instrumental in selecting a winner. Our school council president Martin Booth’s submission won the competition and the emblem has remained the same all this time. It was red and white in the beginning with the whole staff and students proudly wearing a windcheater, jacket or cap.

This is an aerial view of 3 people in a ‘ring- a -rosy’ position. They all have their hands joined. The white figures on the black background represent the community at large. The black figure repre-sents the child (and their families). This child is outside the mainstream but wishing to be included gradually. The difference in the colour of the symbols recognizes the obvious differences, but they

play ‘ring-a-rosy’ undeterred. In fact, the game is incomplete without all the players.

Shame we have to stop for holidays but lots more to come in Term 3 – see you then.

Regards,

The mighty EEPS with Suzanne and Gale.
