Education has always been an important element for the development of an individual. It offers a ladder and a path to a promising future for millions of children. Celebrated on 24 January each year, the International Day of Education aims to rethink education and shape the future. It catalyzes a global debate on how knowledge, education and learning need to be reimagined in a world of increasing complexity and uncertainty.

The 2020 theme “Learning for people, planet, prosperity and peace”, highlights the integrated nature of education and the learning it enables as humanity’s greatest renewable resource and reaffirms the role of education as a fundamental right and a public good. This day will celebrate the many ways learning can empower people, preserve the planet, build shared prosperity and foster peace.
