The facade of Tokyo American Club

 New “SRIXON Z Series” are to be launched in 43 countries and other regions this Sep. As the kickoff of this global business, a press conference was held at Tokyo American Club on June 13.

 Actually this was the first press conference for Srixon clubs which was held in Japan. Every time a new XXIO is released, a large-scale press conference has been held, while Srixon clubs were introduced at exhibitions only.  This project started from a strong determination of M Hayashi of Golf Planning Dept. 2. at DSM, “I want our group will be unified even with SRIXON brand! XXIO has already established its own solid position; however, we want to establish

SRIXON’s position as a brand which is fully independent from XXIO.” M Kato of Golf Club Development Dept., M Iguchi of Global Marketing Dept. and AM Kiyotoki of Public Relations Dept. also sympathized with his story and held many discussions.

 What bothered us most is how we appeal visions of Srixon as a global brand while emphasizing its high-quality. We dwelled on the details of press conference including its venue. We chose Tokyo American Club as the press conference venue, which is an international club for members with 80-year history, and we planned a play round for demo at Zama Golf Club on Camp Zama in Kanagawa.  As there is a severe security check to enter into Zama Camp, there was an opinion against it considering the burden of media reporters

and its high risk of implementation. But we finally chose this place as “We felt this place is most appropriate to convey Srixon’s visions as a global brand and its image as a tour use overseas.”

 At the press conference, to convey our strong messages, we planned to make presentations by P Kinameri and the other top 3 in the field, (M) Hanafusa at Global Marketing, (M) Moriyama at Golf Club Development and D Kigoshi at DSM. Our aim is to express our seriousness for Srixon to media. We waited for the press event while making elaborate documents and conducting a rehearsal.

 On the day of event on June 13, it continued to rain heavily from the morning in Tokyo but many 81 reporters visited us. On the previous day, Ashun WU Pro has claimed his second European Tour title with Z765. With the big news, the event started on time and well prepared with the exhibition of full lineups of New “SRIXON Z Series”, a floor decoration by their posters , and staff’s uniforms with arrangement of Z.

 P Kinameri delivered his first presentation about “SRIXON” brand business strategy, then presentations on product planning and concept, technical performance and sales strategy in Japan were delivered by (M)Hanafusa, (M)Moriyama and D Kigoshi respectively. Their presentations were outstanding enough to create “RIPPLE EFFECT”. They were able to send clear messages that our biggest mission is to be successful especially in drivers, and that drivers are targeted at pros and advanced players, as well as the lineups are targeted at average golfers. At the last part of the event, Yosuke Tsukada pro, who has won his first Japan Golf Tour title by Z565 driver and Z765 iron on the previous week, came out as a surprise guest. We finished the event in great success.

 After the press conference, 20 reporters of golf magazines, especially in charge of golf gears, tried out NEW “SRIXON Z Series” at a demo round while it rained. Staff who had engaged in club development, golf sales planning, and public relations accompanied them, which further helped them understand our new products. Participation media commented a lot, “I felt your strong determination to sell drivers”, “I deeply understood SRIXON’s visions as a global brand”, “The atmosphere of the press conference site was like a press room at PGA tour.” and “SRIXON which were used at the round at Zama Camp is suitable for SRIXON as global brand.”

 Ahead of the world, New “SRIXON Z Series” was released first in Japan. As we announced at the press conference, we will run promotions to create “RIPPLE EFFECT”. As the first trial in Japan, demo will be conducted at more than 100 sites before the release in Sep. M Hayashi talked, “I hope more users try out SRIXON clubs to find out how good they are. I am sure they will buy it with satisfaction of their high performance”. He added, “Use of Z765 by our Japanese contract pros’ is steadily progressing under detail plan by Tour Planning(Japan) Dept.(J Tour), which is sure to contribute to the release in September and users’ reputation at 100 demo sites.” Club Development and J Tour talked and talked in advance and then conducted fittings for players, which was successful. M Uehara of J Tour said, “I appreciate Club Development created such clubs as pros feel willing to use. I also appreciate Production and Logistics department prepared heads in time for the test conducted in March.”

 In collaboration with departments, Tsukada Pro won his Japan Golf Tour title with the use of New “SRIXON Z Series”, his surprise participation in the press conference helped expand media’s expectation to new products and build a feeling of reliability to their performance. This is exactly “RIPPE EFFECT”.  The series are released in many countries and regions. The key to success is whether we can bring “RIPPE EFFECT”. We are planning to hold press conferences in Aug in Malaysia and in Sep in South Korea by SSA and DSK respectively.

【DSK】Round Lesson, “Improve Your Game”, with KLPGA Pros

 In order to elevate the presence of Srixon brand, a lesson event “Improve Your Game” with KLPGA pros was held on April 1 at the Dream Range of the Sky72 Golf Club in Incheon.

 Participants were recruited through DSK’s website and those selected were eligible to take lessons from our 7 KLPGA pros (Yoon Seul A, Ahn Shin Ae, Kim Ji Min, Chung Ye Na, Pak Ju Young, Kim Ji Young, and Kim Hye Seon). On the day, it was a clear sky although it was cold in the cherry blossoms season. The total 28 selected took special lessons from the pros they like.

 We heard from participants, “I was very glad that my favorite pro directly taught me.”,

“I felt good as I was able to solve the problem I had been bothered by.” and “I was impressed with the pro’s kind attitude and detailed instructions.”

 Lesson contents were broadcasted later by “JTBC Golf”, a golf channel.

 Ichijima marked its 20th anniversary since it started its operation producing golf balls in 1996. We maintain the top position since recapturing its position in sales in 2010 in the Japanese market. This achievement is largely due to our production of “SRIXON Z-STAR Series”. The high production and quality capacities of Ichijima factory contributed to the success with the support of each employee. We would like to produce golf balls which are the world’s highest level and deliver them to golfers worldwide.

【SSA】The XXIO9 Campaign Event to Win a Toyota Camry 2.5 Hybrid On May 12th, SSA organized a XXIO9 campaign event with a winning prize, a Toyota Camry 2.5 Hybrid.  9 randomly-selected customers, who purchased any XXIO9 clubs from Dec 5, 2015 to the end of Mar 2016, played a round of golf at the Mines Resort & Golf Club in a suburb of Kuala Lumpur. 9 players were chosen because the XXIO9 is the 9th generation. Each player picked one key from the 9 keys in the order of their scores. The one who was successful in opening the door won the grand prize. The other 8 customers each went home with a XXIO putter. Aside from the main draw event, there were 3 Hole-In One prizes of a Toyota Camry 2.5 Hybrid for all the participants.  In total, 60 persons from the media and sponsors participated in this event, which was a great success.

【DSP】The Inventor Ceremony The ceremony to recognize inventors for 2015 was held on April 12. There are two types of awards: One is for the number of applications for utility patents and utility designs and the other is for invention and creativity that might bring great benefit in the future. 21 winners were awarded this year.  The ceremony is annually held around April 18 as the Patent Monopoly Ordinance, the predecessor of the Patent Law, was promulgated on April 18, 1885 in Japan. This year marked its 21st time. ED Sano, the presenter of certificates of commendation, delivered his congratulatory messages to the award winners; “Five more recipients than last year were awarded this time. I recognize this is the result of our technology achievement. In the global market, we need to file patent applications that can help back off competitors. In this sense, I hope you are making further efforts for higher quality applications while keeping high awareness of IP.”

【DGCC】Achievement a Total Shipment of 30 mil Golf Clubs. The total number of golf clubs shipped reached 30 milon May 13. To commemorate this, DGCC held an anniversary event on May 20th.  In the ceremony, P Yamakawa made a speech,”We can celebrate this anniversary thanks to employees’ commitment to sustained production, our long beloved and long selling products, and wonderful support from our partners. After the ceremony, a commemorative tree was planted. DGCC started its operation in April, 1989 in Miyazaki. The production number started around 300 to 600 thousand annually. After 2000, when the production of XXIO started, the annual production achieved one million. In 2004, they achieved the total production of 10 mil, and 20 mil in 2010. We will continue to produce our clubs aiming for 40, 50, and 100 mil in total and would like to provide our clubs for golfers who love our products.

 Dunlop‘s Combined Camp of Golf, Tennis ,and Fitness was held at “HOTEL HERITAGE” in Kumagaya city, Saitama, on Apr 20 and 21 for members of DGS and DSTS. In this event, golf and tennis lessons were provided with fitness lessons aiming for a fitness synergy effect. Employees at DSC’s Minami Furuya Branch handled fitness exercises.  On the first day, yoga was the cool down after golf and tennis lessons. Participants seemed to be satisfied with its effect and commented, “I didn’t feel fatigued the next day.” On the 2nd day, they did workouts to improve range of motion and learned effective use of body and how to exercise. These lessons were very successful. We heard many comments, “I could perform better in playing tennis and golf thanks to those lessons.”

 DSP and (M) Nakanishi of Tennis Branch Hqs at DSM received awards at the 2016 Japan Tennis Association(JTA) awards ceremony held on June 13. DSP received the company award for the support it has provided many tennis tournaments with tennis balls such as “Fort” and “Srixon”. (M)Nakanishi received “The Best Tournament Director Award” for distinguished contribution

to strengthen and grow tennis players, as a director of All-Japan Tennis Championships for 11 years from the 79th 2004 to the 90th 2015.

Misaki Doi Books Ticket to Rio!Breaking

 Misaki Doi has been confirmed to represent Japan in the women’s singles category at the Rio Olympics! Doi, who is 48th in the WTA Tour rankings after the French Open (June 6), got the dream ticket to the Olympics.   She became the first Japanese to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon Championships (June 27-July 10) in the women's singles after 10 year’s absence, and also has risen to a career-high 36th on the rankings. She is highly expected to win the medal in the Olympics.

 Following the last time introduction, I will introduce two short-time exercises that might be somewhat tough but can be very effective.

 The first workout is “Lunges” to train your legs and hips.

Step your right leg back and bend your knees until both legs are nearly at right angles (photo①). Lift your right leg and stand at one-leg (photo②). Try to conduct this exercise slowly and repeat it 20 times, alternating right and left. Also you may add more exercise for shoulder areas by raising or lowering your arms or vary your workout by pulling a rubber tube to strengthen your back (photo③).

Last training is a jump rope. This is a fat burning exercise rather than a muscular training, which becomes popular in recent years as an exercise to keep your calves in shape. Let’s start from a 5-minute exercise towards the goal of 20-minute. There is also a little gadget called “cordless jumping rope”, which is easy to be handled at home. How about trying this out?

 Have you ever stopped and thought about your country and company?  The other day, I attended a lecture on ”Promoting active roles for women” delivered by Atsuko Muraki*1, Japan’s former Vice Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. I understand well that situations are very different in various regions of the world, but the speech was quite clear to me. Then I would like to discuss a little bit about this topic in light of today’s Japan.

 The Abe cabinet is working to bring about “A Society where Women Shine”, which seems to have had some positive results. However, other countries make more efforts than Japan, Japan continues to decline in the ranking of the Global Gender Gap Index*2. That gap also appears with the total fertility rate of Japan of 1.46 versus 2.0 or so of the West such as US, UK, FR, AU.

 In Japan, the aging population and declining birthrate is accelerating. It is said that in 2030, each elderly person will be supported by 1.8 working persons (aged 15 to 64), and that by 2060 it will reduce to 1.27, which is a status where urgent  measures should be taken. As you know, if the working age population continues to diminish, economies or public services will be disrupted.

 While the working age population is decreasing, and the aging population and declining birthrate is advancing, how can we promote women’s participation? For the past decade, the importance of work-life balance has been emphasized in Japan too; however Japan is far behind the West. It goes without saying; we must strengthen a working environment so that many different people, irrespective of gender, can choose their different ways of working. Workers feel satisfied with their jobs, which is of course important. Further, we must cultivate a culture so that workers can have a flexible working style and are acknowledged for their performance.

 How is our company group? When I think about the future of our company group, I hope our female workers work lively and that our group is popular among women, this must happen. The number of women at our group is still small (Male-to-female ratio: 7:3). Considering our businesses are golf, tennis, and sports clubs, I think women can play more active roles. I must build up a company where each employee is motivated to work regardless of his/her gender, nationality, or burden of child-caring or nursing care. I believe, to realize such a culture and environment will help lead to women’s active roles.

 Hauke originates from Hamburg, Germany and joined Srixon in August 2015. Hauke is a crucial member of the marketing department who works closely with the UK marketing team, creating promotional strategies and building key relationships. Hauke speaks English, German and French fluently and frequently travels around Europe promoting the Srixon brand. Hauke has over ten years experience working in the golf industry and is excellent at identifying new market trends and potential business opportunities. His superb communication skills mean he is highly effective at developing and maintaining important client relationships.  Hauke has quickly become a very popular and trusted member of the Srixon team. He is currently working on three different promotional campaigns for new product launches in September.  How was this issue of Dunlop Sports Group News? The press release of New “SRIXON Z Series” has first been announced in Japan as a global business, and new efforts for golf, tennis, and fitness businesses have also started. We had sections to introduce events at DSK and SSA as well as an employee at SSE. Ichijima factory welcomed the 20th anniversary since its operation while DGCC shipped the total number of 30 million clubs. We will keep up to date with what is going on at each business region including its records.
