We have an exciting and very busy term 4 ahead of us. There are many things happening this term, I would like to draw your attention to these important issues; 1. Kindergarten enrolment 2019 Do you have a child turning 5 before 31 July 2019? Or do you know any children in our area that haven’t sorted out their schooling yet? We are currently finalising our Kindergarten 2019 plans and have a few spaces left in our classes. Please ring the school office on 9349 1569 if you have any questions about Kindergarten next year. Big Start begins on Wednesday October 31 at 9.15am. See you there. 2. Moonlight Cinema The P&C have organised a wonderful family friendly movie evening on our school oval on Friday 2 November. This should be an amazing event and we encourage all our community to attend on this night. Please go to https://www.maroubramoonlightcinema.com.au/ for more information and tickets. 3. Parent ‘Tell Them From Me’ Survey Parent, student and teachers feedback about how we are going as a school is extremely important. We encourage all parents to have their say in 2018 to inform, guide and target our practices now and in the future. For parents, the link is https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/mbpsparent18 4. CareMonkey Last term 217 parents set up CareMonkey accounts. This term we will be starting to use this system to send out permission notes for activities. For this system to be successful we need a large take up rate of the system, otherwise we will be spending too much time on two different systems. Find out more about Caremonkey at https://www.caremonkey.com/ If you have not yet registered your account or have any questions, please contact the office on 9349 1569 or send an email to the school account [email protected] and we can add you in. Anti-Bullying practices at our school are under the microscope this term. Staff have begun professional learning this week and will be developing protocols, activities and practices to ensure we are consistent and dealing with bullying in the best manner possible. There are also conferences booked this term and online courses for students to participate in planned. I will be talking more about this at the next P&C Meeting. Thank you to the P&C for organising the OceanPod incursion yesterday. It was a very positive day and all students and staff learnt a lot about how we can help our environment. Being so close to the ocean here at The Bay and our school focus on being environmentally aware and caring, these incursions are vital and much appreciated. Enjoy your week, and welcome back. Maroubra Bay Spectacular Concert On the last week of school Maroubra Bay showcased our in-credible talents and achievements in our 2018 school concert. Students did a fantastic job in their performances and teachers were extremely proud of the dedication students displayed over the past two terms of the dance program.

We would like to thank our school community for supporting us during the transition to a new venue as there were many chang-es that may have been overwhelming. It was great to see our community together celebrating our students’ successes. We would like to acknowledge all the hard work that was put in preparation for this concert from our dance teachers Sherrie and Gordon, our parents, students and teachers.

It was an incredible night that celebrated public education at its finest and will be a night to remember.

If your child still has a costume that was made from the costume department, please ensure it is returned to your child’s class-room teacher as soon as possible.

Kindergarten at Symbio This week, Kindergarten went on their first ever excursion. Having had the rain already spoil one planned trip, everyone was extremely happy to see the sunshine on Tuesday morning. After a journey full of excitement, we arrived at our destination just after 10 am. The students were greeted by Ranger Joe who took us to an outdoor auditorium, where we were given the opportunity to discuss the various characteristics of native wildlife and their importance to aboriginal culture. The students also spent some time petting some of the animals and showing far more bravery than some of our teachers.

After lunch, the students were taken on a tour of the wildlife park, where they saw a variety of interesting animals. The day finished with the children having the opportunity to feed some very appreciative kangaroos before heading back to school for a well deserved rest.

Public Speaking Update At the end of last Term, all students in K-6 participated in the Ultimo Operational Directorate Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition. After participating in class and Stage Finals, one student from each was selected to represent their Stage at the School Final. All students did a fantastic job at beautifully presenting both their prepared speeches on a topic of choice and an impromptu speech on the day. Following the school final Polly (KV), Buster (2A), Ruby (3P) and Scarlett (5/6B) where selected to progress to the Network Final at Matraville Public School to represent our amazing school.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of accompanying our four out-standing speakers and they all were very pleased and proud of their efforts and making it so far in the competition. We not only had a great day at Matraville but we made our School proud. A special mention and a huge congratulations to Buster (2A), who was the Stage 1 Division Winner for our Network against twelve local public schools. Buster will proceed to the Grand Final in Week 5 to represent our region at St Peters Public School. Not only was Buster our Stage 1 Winner, Scarlett (5/6B) received highly commended in Stage 3. I congratulate them on their amazing talents in Public Speaking and we wish Buster all the best for the Grand Final. Overall, it was an amazing experience for our finalists and they received wonderful feedback from the adjudicator which they will definitely put into practise for the future.

Go Maroubra Bay!

Summer PSSA Competition The summer PSSA competition, which is a continuation from term 1, will begin on Friday 26th August (week 2) for those students who participated in AFL, softball and tee ball earlier in the year. We are excited to inform students and parents that the school has invested in brand new sports uniforms for all PSSA representative students which will be allocated to team members early next week. Students will receive their own tops which will be signed out from the office and returned at the com-pletion of the competition in week 8. We ask that par-ents ensure that their child has the correct sports uniform and safety equipment required to participate. Mouthguards can often get misplaced throughout the year or are no longer suitable for students to wear. Therefore please check that all compulsory safety items are ready to use for the first week of competition.

School Sport Term 4 Sport in Schools Australia (SISA) will continue their exten-sive sports program with a focus on teamwork/problem solving activities and the next stage in the gymnastics program. All students who do participate in PSSA will have the opportunity to take part in this highly engaging and energetic sports program from this week. The program has a cost of $30 per student for the 9 week program. This price is heavily subsidised by the success-ful Sports in Schools grant received in term 4.

As per term 3, all students will trial in activities in the first 2 weeks. Notes and money will need to be handed in to the office by week three for students to continue in the program. Please come and see Mr Crowther if you have any question regarding this program.

1B’s Star Catchers After reading ‘How to Catch a Star’ by Oliver Jeffers last term in 1B, students designed and created their own star catching machines to help the boy in the book. They used recycled materials brought in from home to create their masterpieces and then wrote fantastic explanations describing how their machines worked.

Students had a wonderful time throughout the lessons and came up with some very innovative and creative ideas, from vacuum hoses, to claws, to teleportation devices!

I was very impressed with all the students in 1B and cannot wait to see what wonderful things they will do in Term 4!
