Dr. JohnCorinagraduated in the JuneClassof1946.Hishighschooldayswerefilledwithperformancesasatayoungageheexcelled inmusic.HeservedasComptrolleroftheschoolbankandwasnamedtotheNationalHonorSociety.Hisstudiesinachallengingcollegepreparatorycurriculuminnowayhinderedhisabilitytoachievemusically;duringJohn'sjuniorandsenioryearsheperformedwiththeClevelandPhilharmonicOrchestraandas a senior served as the orchestras president. John was the youngestfacultymemberattheClevelandMusicSettlementwherehetaughtoboe,andatCollinwood’sgraduationceremoniesheperformedaconcertofromHandel.HeservedasoboistintheU.S.ArmyBandatWestPoint,returningtnteachintheLakewoodandFloridapublicschools.

HereceivedBachelorsandMastersdegreesfromWesternReserveUniversity,graduatingcumlaudeandPhiBetaKappa;andearnedtheDoctorofMusicdegreeincompositionformFloridaStateUniversity.Dr. Corina taught composition, oboe and theory and performed with the GeorgiaWoodwind Quintet fortwenty-five years at theUniversity ofGeorgia,wherehe attained thepositionsof chairmanof theory andcomposition,graduate faculty, fullprofessor,and in1985wasawardedtheuniversity's teachingexcellenceProfessorship.HeisProfessorEmeritussincehisretirementin1991-theyearinwhichhewastherecipientoftheAthens/ClarkeCountyCommunityCulturalAward.As composer of over 130 works, he has received fourteen awards from the American Society ofComposers,Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and others. As oboist. he has performed throughout NorthAmericaandEurope,acceptingnineinvitationsfromtheinternationalDoubleReedSociety.Asconductor,hehas directed the University of-Georgia Orchestra and Athens Choral Society among other choruses,orchestras,andbands.Dr. Corina has been a church organist/choir director for fifty years, presently serving Emmanuel EpiscopalChurchinAthens,Georgia.Heremainsanactivecomposer.oboist,andteacher.JohnismarriedtoCarolandtheyhavethreechildren,Susan,DonaldandRobert.
