KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Glenn Hickman is a third generation Arizona farmer, and is the current President and CEO of Hickman’s Family Farms. According to payment records, his official start with the family business was in 1973, when he was 12 years old.

He was a driven man even at a very young age, and at 19 he left college to run and manage the family farm with his mother and father, Gertie and Bill Hickman, Sr. Two years later, younger brother Billy followed the same path, and soon Clint and Sharman joined the ranks.

Hickman’s Family Farms began on grandmother Nell Hickman’s porch in 1944 in Glendale, Arizona. Growing from an enterprise with an origi-nal flock of 50 chickens, Hickman’s Family Farms is now the largest egg company in the Southwest. Together the Hickmans have transformed the small “backyard” egg operation into a multi-million dollar fami-ly enterprise. Considered an Arizona success story, Hickman’s Family Farms has provided fresh eggs for 72 years.

Glenn and his wife, Audrey, are the parents of two adult sons, Michael and Grant, and recently became grandparents for the first time.

Glenn Hickman will discuss the 20-year history of success between Arizona Correctional Industries and Hickman’s Family Farms, a CI partner that employs 279 offenders and encourages them to learn about every part of the business. During their twenty years of collaboration, Arizona CI and Hickman’s Family Farms have trained nearly 2,500 offenders who have worked for over 4.5 million hours. Presenters will discuss how Correctional In-dustries use vocational education and rehabilitative programming to provide both the technical and soft skills required by employers in the real world. Track C: Maximizing Internal and External Stakeholder Engagement

CI FACILITY TOURADC - Florence | Hosted by Arizona Correctional Industries | Monday, April 24, 2017 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Located halfway between Phoenix and Tucson, the Arizona State Correctional Pris-on in Florence is the oldest facility in the Arizona system dating back to 1908. The movie Stir Crazy, starring Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder, was filmed there with one current ACI employee participating in a cameo role. The offender population varies from minimum to maximum security with the following ACI operations within its boundaries.

• The metal fabrication shop produces a wide variety of metal products and offers certifications in its powder coat and welding area. Our Solid Works drafting team creates custom designs and production drawings. Product from this facility goes not only to the Department of Corrections, but also cities and towns throughout Aizona and of course our beloved Arizona State Parks.

• The wood shop provides custom-made furniture and cabinetry with CAD-CAM manufacturing and refurbishing services. Furniture and cabinetry is sold to the Department of Corrections and other state agencies.

• The Florence east unit houses one of our sewing operations and the of-fenders there produce, towels, sheets, and wash clothes.

• Our agricultural operations outside the secure perimeter gates produce al-falfa to feed our wild horses and burrows, along with tilapia for the Phoenix fish market. Extensive well facilities allow for growing operations to function throughout the year.

• Our wild horse and burrow program facility, modeled after other success-ful CI programs in Colorado and Nevada, was built by offenders using recy-cled fencing and additional extensive work by our metal fabrication shop in Florence. The program has been the subject of numerous positive print articles and TV news segments, primarily focused on the impact that the program has made on the offenders’ lives. We are most proud of the fact that 51 offenders have been released from this program and so far none have returned to prison.

• Our recycling shop in Florence sends offender clothing to a private busi-ness partner where it is ground up and formed into mattress cores that are, in turn, used in our mattresses. We also do some labeling work for Amazon through a third party vendor.

• The location of our central warehouse and transportation center, in the Florence complex with our regional headquarters, is very beneficial since there are other ACI operations nearby. While we have operations in nearly all the other state prisons, the Florence area by far has the largest concentra-tion—the epicenter of ACI production operations.

NCIA conference attendees can make their hotel reservations online or by phone no later than March 10, 2017 by contacting the JW Marriott Starr Pass Hotel directly to book their reservations or by reserving on-line at the link above. When calling, attend-ees should be sure to state that they are NCIA conference attendees to get the group rate of $111/night plus sales tax and $1 daily hotel amenities fee (includes wifi and other hotel amenities). The hotel requires the first night fee and tax charge as a deposit or a credit card. The deposit is refundable if the reservation is cancelled 72 hours before ar-rival.

Reservations must be made by March 10, 2017, in order to receive NCIA Group Rate. Af-ter this date, rooms may not be available at the reduced rate so you are strongly encour-aged to make your room reservations early. Rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Check-in time is 4 PM. Check-out time is 11 AM.

EARLY DEPARTURE FEES: The Hotel will require an early departure charge in an amount equal to the guest’s current per night charge, plus applicable tax, for all guests who depart one or more days prior to their scheduled depar-ture date. The first night deposit will be credited against any early departure charge and the charges for the first night shall be included on the guest bill.

CANCELLATIONS: Guests may cancel their reservations within 72 hours prior to arrival. Cancellations less than 72 hours prior to arriv-al will be subject to a forfeiture of one night’s room and tax. In the event of a “no-show,” the credit card will be charged to the equivalent of one night’s stay. Upon check-in, each guest will be required to present a val-id credit card, on which an amount of sufficient pre-authorization can be obtained to cover the room and tax charges for the length of the guest’s stay, plus the anticipated use of the hotel’s ancillary services.

GETTING THERE: Transportation is available curbside, on the Baggage Claim level upon arrival to the Tucson International Airport. The hotel does not provide shuttle service.
