Governance is all about accountability and transparency in our dealings, especially in a service organization like Rotary which relies heavily on voluntary giving to use for public good, said Rtn. PDG Madhura Chatrapathy, in her emphatic and lucid style. Governance and stewardship are complimentary to each other and encompass, apart from accountability and transparency, a whole lot of issues like the values that we hold, the norms, the referral points,

the policy framework, organizational practices and so on. Everyone has to go through it. Rotary has been doing it for 109 years now. As the little lamp said, we may not be able to provide light to the entire world, but at least we should not be enveloped by darkness, she stressed.

Good Governance and Stewardship is also about making way for others, how do we step out, how do we develop leadership, how do we push ourselves from within. While leadership is related to your position, stewardship has a larger meaning. It is the courage of conviction that helps us live the values we hold.

Rtn. PRID Panduranga Setty, participating in the interaction, felt that unhealthy practices have been found in certain instances, even in Rotary, which is a disappointing development. We need to maintain transparency in all our actions, we should be within the rules and framework, things have to be kept under watchful eyes, we need to be accountable.

Rtn. Pres. Prakash Belawadi introduced Rtn. PDG Madhura Chatrapathy and Rtn. Pres. Srinivas proposed the formal Vote of Thanks.

JANUARY – ROTARY AWARENESS MONTHJanuary is “Rotary Awareness Month," a time for us to consider how our Rotary values--and our own actions--influence the public’s perception of Rotary. Let’s think about how our Rotary core values of Service, Fellowship, Diversity, Integrity and Leadership play a central role in our Club’s activities and our personal lives.

Total Wild Polio cases reported in 2014: 350 compared with 372 in the same period in 2013 Officially Reported Wild Virus Cases for 2014, in Endemic Countries: 331 (Compared with 148 in the same period in 2013)

Afghanistan: 28 cases (12 for the same period in 2013)Nigeria: 6 cases (51 for the same period in 2013) Pakistan: 297 cases (85 for the same period in 2013)

Self Awareness

January is celebrated by Rotary Clubs around the world as ‚Rotary Awareness Month.‛For most of us, what comes to mind immediately is public image, public relations, or promoting Rotaryexternally.

Rotary International, on its website, however, explains further and encourages us to: ‚Celebrate RotaryAwareness Month by training members on Rotary history, programs, or how to raise awareness of your club’sprojects among your community. Or, ask members to share a personal story or experience that they have hadbecause of Rotary. Every Rotarian has a Rotary story that can be educational and inspiring. The beginning of anew year is a good opportunity to renew inspiration for the rest of the Rotary year. ‚

It emphasizes the equally-important aspect of promoting awareness internally, among Rotarians. RotaryAwareness, therefore, does not only involve Public Relations, but Rotary Information, History, andMembership Development, as well–if we talk about committee roles and responsibilities.

Celebrating this month’s theme gives club leaders the perfect opportunity to reach within their respectiveclubs and give members a deeper awareness of being Rotarians, strengthen their interest in the club, and givethem the renewed inspiration to be of service to humanity.
