RI themes, which started in the 1950s, are a variety.. they make us think, act and reach out; they lead us to lend a hand and look beyond oneself; they personify the essence of Rotary. Though RI Presidents change every year, their themes live on, some due to their simplicity, inner meaning and significance. Light up Rotary, theme of Gary Huang, the first Taiwanese President of RI, is greatly influenced by the Chinese philosopher Confucius. Absence of love, faith and hope results in darkness. Wherever love goes, success and wealth follow; the service that we render in Rotary, relates to love that is why Rotary has encircled the people around the world. We should first understand what helplessness is about, in turn to know what Hope is all about; in the moments of hopelessness one finds Rotary; it brings hopes in the lives of millions. He said, programmes like Pulse Polio brought faith in the commitment of Rotarians; we Rotarians, do god’s work on earth. We can reach out and make a difference and change lives; that is our opportunity. I light one candle, you light another and together we can dispel the darkness and do much more. In essence , Rotary is all about lighting up the lives of those unfortunate ones, it is then we can light up Rotary. His lively rendering received a standing ovation. Soon after the Salk vaccine was created, Albert Sabin developed an oral version, allowing tremendous numbers of children to be immunized quickly, safely, and inexpensively. In 1985, Rotary's Polio Plus program was born, with a simple goal: to immunize every child under age five against this crippling disease. T oday, we are closer to this goal than ever before, with just three remaining endemic countries. We are on track to achieve full eradication by 2018 if we can keep up the momentum that has brought us this far. And this month, we will mark World Polio Day on 24 October, and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Dr. Salk's birth. I ask you all to Light Up Rotary this month by doing whatever you can to shine a spotlight on our efforts to eradicate polio. We will have proved ourselves, as an organization, capable of great things. And we will have given our children and grandchildren a gift that will endure forever: a polio-free world. In October 1914, Jonas Salk was born – a man who would change world

history by inventing the first effective vaccine against polio. Soon after the

Salk vaccine was created, Albert Sabin developed an oral version, allowing

A motivational speaker and a much respectedleadership trainer in the corporate world, Dr. Kataria isfeatured frequently on TV and Radio and inprestigious publications like Time Magazine, WallStreet Journal and National Geographic.

Spreading the importance of laugh and laughterworldwide is his lifetime mission for laughter is thebest medicine which is known and proved to releasefeel-good hormones and make people feel better, sleepbetter and perform better. He says, laughter reducestension and improves your health. Even a fake laughhas its benefits as the body cannot differentiatebetween spontaneous and fake laughs and we get thebenefits nonetheless

10 minutes of laughing is equivalent to 30 minutes ofexercise, adds Dr. Kataria, it is a fantastic exercisebecause it gives exercise to your internal organs likeheart, kidney, abdomen muscles, etc

Money Mart, an exhibition of ‚Money’ Business in association with FKCCI at their premises ,our first fund raiser. Received over 4000 visitors generating Rs.1.2 Crores worth business!Mid Career Choice Making: a day long workshop with top professional who had made thetransition successfully sharing their travails and triumphs. Mr. Sampathraman, the currentPresident FKCCI was one of them.Skills for Success : a 3 day programme for entrepreneurs by Prof. Kavil Ramachnadran, then from IIM-B currentlyat Indian School Business, of Family Business fame.

Y’ Entrepreneurs ‘92 : Asian Conference of Young Entrepreneurs Inaugurated by then DG Ravindran K R, the youngest DG, 2-days programme

with 3 parallel sessions over 500 participants addressed by Mr. Ramesh Chauhan, Parle’s CMD,

Entrepreneurship Training : Over 400 young men and women were trained in entrepreneurship under the PMRY scheme. One shining example of the impact is Rtn. Munikrishna of Rotary Kengeri Upanagara. After our training he set up his first textile shop, now he has grown to three large textile shops. Classification Display was initiated right in the inception, perhaps we were the only one doing at that point in time.We have continued the display and classification presentations. Couple of times it was made open to high schoolstudents as display of career options.Entrepreneurship Awareness for Women at Madurai jointly with Rotary Club MaduraiDesigning for the Disabled, unique workshop of users and creators, in association with Indian Institute ofArchitecture, Bangalore Chapter received high appreciation from the authoritiesFinancial Assistance for Marketing , Mini seminar sponsored by SIDBI ,conducted in association with KASSIA and AWAKE was extremely well received andmuch appreciated.* Rotary Centennial Essay Contest for higher primary school students ‘ My4-WAY TEST Person’ Students, through their essay, nominated one person known to them as a Rotary 4-way Test Person. On the basis of the best essaying, we honored the person featured in that essay as ROTARY 4-WAY TEST PERSON. The prize-winning essay citation was read by the student on the awards event . The teacher, who guided the student was also recognized.
