One of the greatest aspects of Donghia’s Design Studio headquarters is the spacious fourth floor which houses the archives of Angelo Donghia. It is here where I continuously find insight into Angelo’s signature, iconic designs and inspiration.
Angelo was the first to expound a new approach to interior design. Rather than design a fantasy interior, he created a luxurious, liveable environment.
Drawing on this principle, the design studio has implemented some exciting new product launches for 2009 - including the Manhattan sectional, originally designed by Angelo for Ralph Lauren’s 5th Avenue apartment in 1977, and the Volume tub chair, a design first introduced in 1984 with the start of the Donghia Furniture Company. Also launching are the classic Island sofa, which is being expanded to a sectional, and the Monaco sofa, a Donghia interpretation of the traditional Chesterfield.
After many years, Angelo Donghia’s vision remains vital to the direction that the Donghia Company embraces for today, and for the future. In 2009, this vision guides Donghia’s growth both in the U.S., with expansions in Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and internationally, with its first dedicated showroom in the heart of Paris’ fashion and décor district as well as presence in Moscow and Kuwait.
