  • My Dear People, Today’s theme on the Readings: SEEING IS BELIEVING Seeing is believing! Since cellphone screens connect us instantly to social media, live TV, and loved ones’ faces near and far, “Doubting Thomas” could be our patron saint: “Unless I see, I will not believe!” But how comforting for any of us who share Thomas’s doubt, or love “doubters” who do, to see how kindly Jesus responds. By offering the very evidence that Thomas demanded, Jesus doesn’t scold Thomas, but seems to understand such skepticism. Could Jesus have been thinking of us, who long to believe that “Jesus is risen!” but see so much suffering, and perhaps even cause some, that we wonder, how could something so wonderful be true? In today’s reading from the Acts of the Apostles, the risen Jesus’ healing love comforts through disciples who love others. In Revelation, “our brother John” doesn’t just claim he saw Jesus alive, but passes on Jesus’ life-giving words, “Do not be afraid.” Seeing Jesus in others is believing! Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Good Divine Mercy Sunday to you all! We hope you had a productive Lent and a blessed Easter!

Let’s all continue that journey toward the self that God created us to be. Today we celebrate the feast of God’s Divine Mercy. His mercy is as old as God himself, and as current as this moment. To help those who would like to search more deeply into the richness of this mercy, we have pulled some resources from our collection and will keep them together for you. Below I have listed two of

them for your consideration. Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul, by St. Maria Faustina

Kowalska. St. Faustina’s diary is the record of her personal and very special communion with our Lord Jesus. It is, I believe, considered to be the signature document of the Divine Mercy movement throughout the world.

33 Days to Merciful Love: A Do-It-Yourself-Retreat in Preparation for Consecration to Divine Mercy, by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC. At the time of publication, Fr. Gaitley lived and worked in Stockbridge Mass., the home of the National Shrine of Divine Mercy.

Next week the Library Table will be on the patio. Please stop by.

    What is Divine Mercy?

The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us – all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC: A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C - Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

An ancient title for this Sunday is Dominica in Albis, or “Sunday in White.” During the Easter Vigil, the newly baptized are invested with a white garment, a sign that they have put on Christ. At one time, the garments were worn for a full week of celebration and reflection, and on this Sunday the newly baptized would appear in their robes again in their new place among the faithful for Eucharist. In later centuries, the energy of new life at Easter was largely forgotten, and this Sunday was renamed “Quasimodo Sunday,” or “Low Sunday.” In recent years, with the recovery of the insight that Easter is the privileged time for celebrating and renewing baptism, there is nothing “Low” about this Sunday. At a week’s distance, the beauty and grace of our Easter celebration is sustained by joyful alleluias, the blessing and sprinkling of holy water, and the comfort of the Lord’s presence to us. He is risen, and he summons us together, opening up the scriptures for us, breaking the bread, filling us with new life. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

    Pastoral Service Appeal UPDATE

A HUGE, huge thank you to the 352 families who have pledged to our Pastoral Service Appeal (PSA) and especially to the young children who have given their allowance…you are

amazing! It has made a difference and we have now made our goal of $134,000. Every dollar and penny counts and now

everything that we receive goes right into the building of our new church. The PSA supports Catechists, Directors of

Religious Education, Liturgical Ministers and Lay Leaders, Clergy and Seminarians support, Parish and Diocesan Development, Deacons, Catholic Charities, Justice and

Detention Ministry, Catholic Schools and the Catholic Deaf Community. If you placed your pledge in the collection basket,

mailed it in, or made a pledge on line and would like your incentive gifts, please contact Diane Grange at (949) 552-1191 and she will be more than happy to get them to you. If you still

want to make a pledge, there are envelopes at the back of church and at the office. Thank you so much for your

wonderful donations to this amazing cause. The Parish would like to thank Pete and Diane Grange for volunteering countless

hours to this cause over the past 17 years. We appreciate all you have done for St. Thomas More and the Diocese of Orange.
