This work has allowed the trust to network with other organisations and share best practice. Maria is an active member of the trust’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group and is extremely approachable, and as a result she is regularly sought out by colleagues to offer advice.

Jacynth joined West Midlands Ambulance Service over three years ago as a non-executive director. The board assigned Jacynth as the chair of the Recruitment Review Group, who’s task was to ensure the trust works towards a representative and culturally competent workforce. Cashain took the initiative to take a lead on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in Together and proposed that we should join the NHS Employers partners programme. Unlike many of the partners, Together does not have a dedicated resource to work solely on EDI, so he has devised a strategy and promoted this widely to achieve buy-in and has addressed the challenge of a dispersed organisation by recruiting and supporting service/department specific EDI champions to spread awareness, knowledge and lead on action.
