Displaydata ESLs Lead to Satisfied Customers and Employees at Greenlandic Retail Chain

Opportunity

Pisiffik, a modern retail chain with seven store concepts across Greenland, has more than 40 stores and 700 employees in Greenland’s six largest cities with the retail concepts; Pisiffik Supermarket, Spar, Torrak Fashion, Elgiganten, Jysk, Pisattat and Note Bene. In addition, Pisiffik operates wholesalers throughout the country through the KK Wholesale and KK Cash & Carry stores.

Reviewing its operations, Pisiffik discovered significant resources were being used to ensure customers were seeing correct prices at the shelf edge.

“ We can already see that our expectations regarding time savings will be achieved. At the same time, we have received a positive response from our customers and that is the most important thing.”

Opportunity

Pisiffik wanted to improve customer and employee satisfaction by replacing traditional paper signs with electronic shelf labels (ESLs) in 21 of its stores. Company executives saw the investment as a way to increase customer satisfaction and give employees additional time to focus on helping customers in the store.

Palle Holm, an analyst who started the project with Displaydata’s partner Delfi Technologies, said the calculation was simple: look at the things that will contribute to paying the bills. For example, instead of associates spending time and money on manually changing promotions and prices in the store, the Displaydata ESLs will run automatic price changes.

Additionally, fewer complaints from customers due to inconsistent pricing or pricing errors, another time saver, will also pay a large part of the bill and will create a better customer experience.

“We will get more time to be merchants for our customers,” said Holm. “That is what it is all about.”

Results

The rollout of Displaydata’s ESLs with partner Delfi Technologies has begun. The first stores to introduce the ESLs have already experienced greater satisfaction among customers and employees.

Promotional items, with the right price tag attached, will improve the customer experience. Electronic pricing ensures that the price at the shelf matches the price at checkout. It saves time for associates and leads to more satisfied customers.

“We can already see that our expectations regarding time savings will be achieved,” said Holm. “At the same time, we have received a positive response from customers and that is the most important thing.”
