FEEDBACK

Description:

This intensive one-day course was aimed to provide a focused revision for the DOHNSClinical/OSCE exam and is aimed at both Surgical and General Practice trainees with aspecialist interest in ENT. The content included clinical topics that regularly feature in the exam. This encompassed gross and microscopic anatomy of key areas, identification of common ENT pathology including video and radiological analysis, interpretation of specialist investigations and familiarization with surgical and emergency equipment. There was a strong emphasis on the clinical application of this knowledge & the practical skills required for the exam. Candidates also had the opportunity to perfect their examination skills and improve their communication skills, with focused history taking and consenting.

The course concluded with a mock OSCE examination, which provided the opportunity for individuals to put into practice the skills they acquired during the course. The candidates were also provided with a free copy of the popular DOHNS OSCE book, 'An Essential Revision Guide to DOHNS' by Stew et al.

The feedback received from the candidates was positive and is summarised in the subseqent pages.

I found the anatomy sessions particularly useful. The mock OSCE gave me an idea of what the exam would be like, and the communication skill sessions highlighted what the examiners are looking for. It was a confidence boosting day altogether. All the staff were very professional and exceptionally helpful. I would appreciate it if you could send me a PDF fee receipt. Thanks!

It was good but certain things were hurried up due to lack of time.Ms Shalini Menon

Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Karnataka, India

Excellent course. Very useful exam preparation particularly the practice OSCE at the end of the day Faculty very approachable and helpful.

Ms Annie BartlettDerriford Hospital, Plymouth

Generally a very good course. I appreciate it had to be kept to one day, but it felt a little rushed, especially the mock OSCE. Anatomy revision was a nice refresher, perhaps a little too much emphasis was put on the foramina of the skull but I appreciate people tend to worry about this. All in all, good course and seems to be better value than others around. Many thanks.

Mr Anant PatelAddenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge

If possible a bit more time to do practical parts/history station and mock OSCE. Thanks again for a very good course.

Very useful course prior to taking the DOHNS part B. Handouts of lectures would have been useful.Mr Adam Hussain

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, Gloucester

Teaching of a great standard that not only helps with the exam but also in general ENT. A session or hand-out on basic operations and instruments used would be useful.

Very thorough, covered almost everything despite being a one day course.Mr Michael George

Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth

I though the course was on the whole excellent - it was very focused to the learning needed to pass the DOHNS and the opportunity to practice OSCEs and do a mock exam was very helpful. I will certainly go into the exam much better prepared.
