What is a logo?

A Logo design symbolizes an organization. A Logo (also called a logotype) is a design that is

used by an organization for its letterhead, advertising material, and signs

Logo’s are a graphic representation or a symbol of a company name, trademark, abbreviation, etc., often uniquely designed for ready recognition.

Think of a Logo as a simple visual mark to identify your company or service.

Trademarks &Registered Trademarks

There are no current laws requiring a company or inventor to obtain a registered trademark for their product, but replacing “TM” with “®” does offer more legal protection.

“TM” and “®” are also very similar to a copyright patent.TM

What makes a good brand?

Think of brands as people. We prefer to be called by our names – James, Mary, John – rather than by a forgettable description of ourselves such as “the guy who always wears blue with blonde hair”. In this same way, a brand does not always literally describe what the business does but rather, identifies the business in a way that is recognizable and memorable.

Logo project: You will be creating your own company logo in 2 versions.

1 in color 1 in black and white (play with contrast to make it work) Both logo’s are completely different designs

The company name is up to you but be careful to not use similar brands to those that already exist.

Your logo can be a symbol without words as long as it

represents your company well.

Remember to simplify and make it readable. LESS IS MORE!

Use color choices wisely. The few colors, the better.

Your logo’s should be a minimum of 5 x 5 inches (300 dpi)
