Featured Faculty Member - Kumiko Hite Mrs Kumiko Hite began teaching in 1997 and then came to Miramonte in 201, where she has been the Kindergarten teacher since 2013. She is known for her gentleness and patient instruction with her students. She also has experience teaching English and Japanese, as well as Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Hite enjoys working with her fellow teachers and contributes also as lead photographer and Yearbook Sponsor. Mrs Hite and her husband Greg have a son Noah, a 5th grader, and a daughter Mai, who will attend preschool next year. She also likes spending time traveling, cooking, and being with family. Her favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” "This reading helps me to be faithful and keeps God's will first whenever I make decisions." The Month of Overnight Trips Each of the classes, grades 4 -8, have a special overnight trip in the spring. The 4th grade already enjoyed Gold Camp, and recently the 7th & 8th grades have returned from memorable times at Hume Lake and the Catalina Islands, respectively. 6th graders made Mission Springs their home last week, and the 5th will soon be going to Albion. These trips enrich their academics and provide great bonding time as well. The Principal’s Window Often people unfamiliar with school ask me what do we do. While there are countless aspects to consider - research & planning, preparation and instruction, grading and recording, tutoring etc. - the three verbs that summarize it best are Nurture, Empower, and Inspire. Nurture: our teachers care for their children and spend much time guiding them, encouraging and supporting them as they attempt new challenges; they instill values of service, respect, hard work, love, and grace. Empower: our teachers help our children master the necessary skills and knowledge so that they can with confidence be positive contributors to their community. And Inspire: through designed experiences, reflection, and conversation, Miramonte teachers motivate their students to find their purpose, to desire to make a difference in this world, and to believe that God made them to accomplish great things. Spring Week of Prayer, April 18 - 22, was led by MVA Chaplain Tim Mitchell and a host of academy students - most of whom were alumni of Miramonte. Their theme was Jesus, the Hero; they shared all the elements of what makes a hero and showed how Jesus is the ultimate Hero of all. Our students took the message to heart, and many recommitted their lives to Jesus. Miramonte has also been quite busy participating in the church services as well. On April 2nd, 8th grade student Job Martinez preached for the Redwood City Church service. The next Sabbath, the 7th and 3rd graders conducted the church service - music, scripture, skits, and sermon - at the Palo Alto Church. Melody Makers provided special music at Sunnyvale Church. The 8th grade Hand Bell Ensemble played for the Mt. View Hispanic Church service and then later at a local nursing home on April 23rd. Students from various grades will also participate in Education Sabbath at the Sunnyvale Church on May 7th and then Children’s Day at Mt. View Central Church on May 14th. Miramonte School Mission: Committed to providing opportunities for students to achieve their personal best, become responsible and productive citizens, embrace lifelong learning in a safe and positive environment, while developing a deeper relationship with God.
