Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden News

• Can you believe we are halfway through Spring already. The vegetable garden is really taking off

with lots of plantings of radish, tomato, carrots,

beans and peas. Anna is doing a great job and the children are loving learning about growing all sorts

of vegetables. The Garden Club is a real hit. • Lil and the children will be harvesting lettuce,

celery, beetroot, spring onions, broad beans and

silver beet. Have a look at Lil’s fab recipes from term 3 on our website for some great ideas and

take the challenge of trying a recipe at home with your son or daughter. You might like to think about

joining in on one of Lil’s great cooking sessions. We are starting up a Friends of the Garden Group

(FOGG) and plan to meet once a month on a Wednesday evening or as suits all those interested.

(Talk to Anna or Chris if interested). Finally, if anyone has any limes or lemons to donate

to the kitchen it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Chris

Zone Athletic Results

Last Thursday Dorset had 8 children compete in the

regional athletics championships.

Congratulations to these children who managed to

qualify for this high level competition. This was a great

achievement.

Results – The girls 12/13 yr relay team (Patience

Amartey, Renee Haw, Bella Koikas and Chloe Batty)

came 4th in their heat. Many thanks again to Chloe

Batty who this time ran in Samantha Olsen’s place.

Unfortunately Samantha Olsen also missed competing

in the 200m and the 800m due to a leg injury.

- Samantha Triangelo came 3rd in the high jump

- Georgi Clarke came 6th in the high jump

- Thomas Sheridan continued to have great success

winning both the 1500m and the 800m events. Thomas

will now compete in the State competition next week.

This has been an outstanding achievement. We wish

Thomas luck and success in this competition.

BAT TENNIS RESULTS

Last week the Dorset Summer bat tennis team played

against Great Ryrie (winners of the Ringwood Nth

district). The competition was very tight and of a very

high standard. I was also particularly pleased with the

way that our children conducted themselves in respect

to sportsmanship.

Results - Dorset 3 sets, 38 games – Great Ryrie 3 sets,

46 games.

Congratulations to our team for their achievements over

the year.

Team members - James Heriot, Jackson McNicol,

Adam Alpert, Fion Stevenson, Gideon Davidson,

Riley McNicol, Jing Wu, Gillian O’Connor,

Industrial Action - Thursday 25th October

Thank you for your overwhelming support of the stop work action today.

You have supported the staff 100% in their industrial action.

Let’s hope a satisfactory outcome will be achieved in the very near future!

Grade Placement 2013

Plans for the 2013 school year are well advanced with Prep enrolments being finalised, budgets and

booklists prepared, supplied, ordered and grade lists completed. Placement of children in classes for

2013 will be considered in November/December. This is a complex process involving much time and

consideration by teachers to ensure children are placed in the most appropriate class settings. School

policy is such that the ultimate aim is to establish balanced classes throughout the school, balanced in the

sense that numbers of children in classes should be uniform and that a variety of abilities, interests, and

needs of students be similar. Criteria to be considered by teachers are age, academic ability, siblings,

friendship groups, behavioural and emotional factors. As usual, I am inviting parents who have concerns

regarding the placement of their child for the new year with particular reference to the above criteria, to

forward to myself, in writing, their views on this matter for consideration. Every effort will be taken to

accommodate genuine and substantial concerns, BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL

PARTICULAR REQUESTS FOR INDIVIDUAL TEACHERS BE CONSIDERED. Please note that

requests for consideration will be accepted only until Friday November 9th. Classes for 2013 and

teachers, where known will be distributed with the December report on Friday December 14th.

Curriculum Day - Monday 5th November

Just a reminder that Monday 5th November, the day before Melbourne Cup is a pupil free day. No

children will be required at school on that day.

School will recommence on Wednesday 7th November at 9.00 am.

Grade 2 Sleepover

This will take place on Friday 9th November.

Thank you to the many staff and parents who will be involved in this great activity.

Prep 2013 Transition

This program is well underway and its great to see the great number of new students coming to our

school. Thank you to the prep staff for all their hard work - I know our new preps will settle in very well

next year.

Grade Structure 2013

Work has begun on the structure for next year. This will be put into the newsletter when finalised by the

staff.

Notebook Evening - Wednesday 24th October

Thank you Justin Mackay, school councillors and staff who organised last nights meeting.

Great questions and discussions occurred. How exciting for our children to have access to notebooks

and the great outcomes which will follow.

A happy and productive week at Dorset.

I’ve been happy with the behaviour in the school. Well done girls and boys.

Regards,

John Jacobs Principal
