prose, poetry and drama. By studying it, students are able to analyze the elements within the prose, poetry and drama. Poetry often has a formal structure or even a cadence while you are reading it. It is a form of writing where the words are usually chosen more carefully and people are effectively presenting it. Prose is normal writing, and includes big novels or autobiographies, but can also just be an essay or a report. Basically it covers anything that is not poetry. STANDAR KOMPETENSI MATA KULIAH : Students will have a basic knowledge of the concepts and principles of how learners learn a second language and the factors that characterize and influence learners’ language use thereby helping them to be more sensitive to the problems faced by learners.

DESKRIPSI MATA KULIAH : Provide students with introductory knowledge of concepts and principles of how

learners learn a second language : key issues in SLA, language environments, Krashen and Bialystok’s theoretical models, effects of personality and age, interlanguage, role of input, and classroom research.

Develop students’ awareness of the complexity and multifunction of language, contextual environment, and language components : grammar and sentences, language and context, formal links, language functions, speech acts, pragmatics and language teaching, discourse typology, approches to discourse skills, managing conversation.
