    DESIGN OF TITANIUM DIOXIDE FACTORY FROM RUTILE AND

    COKE WITH CHLORINE PROCESS CAPACITY 50.000 TONS / YEAR

    (PLUG FLOW REACTOR MULTITUBULAR (R-202))

    Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is one type of pigment and other types are synthetic iron

    (II) dioxide, carbon black pigment, lithophone, chromium (II) dioxide. The use ofpigment types in the world is 68% TiO2. The use of TiO2 as a pigment and a

    catalyst in addition, can also be used as material in producing ceramics.

    Under Indonesia's import data, TiO2 demand continue to increase every year and

    so far the material needs are imported from China. Along with the increasing

    development of user industries, the titanium dioxide Titanium Dioxide Plant

    development is needed to support industrial development in Indonesia.

    Titanium dioxide is produced by the chlorine process in which raw materials

    rutile, coke is contacted with chlorine gas in a Fluidized Bed Reactor (B-201).

    Operating conditions took place with temperatures 909 K and pressure of 1 atm.

    Gas produced one of titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4). Gas is what will form the TiO2which will be reacted TiCl4 and O2 gas in the Plug Flow Reactor Multitubular (R-

    202). Operating conditions in the R-202 is 1020 K and 3 atm. Meanwhile, both

    the reaction conversion by 98%. TiO2 product output from R-202 will be

    condensed in Sub-Cooler Condenser (E-304) and then separated from the liquid-

    vapor in the Flash Drum (H-306). TiO2 in the liquid phase can be cooled at Rotary

    Cooler (B-310), while the gas vapor will be processed in the adsorber (D-307) for

    separating chlorine gas from other gas mixtures.

    Factory production capacity is planned 50.000 tonnes/year with operating time for330 days in 1 year. Planning, the location of the factory was established in the

    industrial area located in Kotawaringin Bagendang East Central Kalimantan

    Province. Labor needed as many as 180 people with a form of business entity

    Limited Liability Company (PT) led by a Director. Managing Director assisted by

    the Director of Production and Financial Director with line and staff

    organizational structure.

    The provision covers the needs of utilities and water treatment system, providing

    steam, instrument air supply, and power generation. Meanwhile, factory support

    unit includes a laboratory, as well as instrumentation and process control.

    From the economic analysis obtained the following results.

    Fixed Capital Investment (FCI) = USD 2,314,404,076,053.240

    Working Capital Investments (WCI) = USD 408,424,248,715.278

    Total Capital Investment (TCI) = USD 2,722,828,324,768.520

    Break Even Point (BEP) = 44.681%Shut Down Point (SDP) = 17.854%

    Pay Out Time Before Taxes (POT), b = 2.730 year

    Pay Out Time After Taxes (POT), a = 3.195 year

    Return Before Taxes On Investment (ROI), b = 22.631%

    Return After Taxes On Investment (ROI), a = 18.105%

    Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) = 29.391%

    Based consider the above matters, then it is proper establishment of Titanium

    Dioxide plant was assessed further in terms of process as well as economic.

    Because this plant is a plant that is profitable and good prospects.
