K to 12 Basic Education Program
“Education is the key to the long-term problems of the country. If we fix basic education, we fix the long-term problems of the country. And if we fix the country’s problems, we will build a
truly strong society we can proudly call the Philippines.”
“We need to add two years to our basic education…I want at least 12 years for our public school children
to give them an even chance at succeeding.”
President Benigno S. Aquino III

K to 12 Basic Education Program
Our current basic education curriculum is congested
Philippine elementary education is comparable in length, duration and number of core subjects with Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Singapore. However a congested curriculum was noted especially in Mathematics, Languages and Sciences. Philippine secondary education is also congested. – SEAMEO Innotech, 2011
Unlike Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore which follows a spiral progression, basic education in the Philippines is discipline-based. It does not offer upper secondary education into disciplinary tracks with electives leading to specializations. – SEAMEO Innotech, 2011

K to 12 Basic Education Program
Initially, I have doubts about this. I thought this would be an added expense. But now I, the Mayor and Vice Mayor are convinced. In our own little way, we’re going to help. We would like to pledge all out support. I would be one of the advocates.
- Councilor Jennilyn Sison, Urdaneta city
The more the stakeholders know about the K to 12
program, the more they believe in the
program.
–SWS, 2011
Information dissemination is key to increasing stakeholder support.
This is such a breakthrough in our system of education. I wasn’t really convinced about K to 12 when I came here. Maraming kasing against dito but they haven’t seen yet iyong beauty and benefits ng reform.
There should be more effort in letting people know about K to 12. - High school student, Region IV-A
With K+12, the students are employable after graduation. This creates job opportunities for schools, teachers and better opportunities for our
graduates. This is the advantage on the part of parents because it is free.
- Dr. Rodolfo, PTA representative of Misamis Occidental
