10. Course review This course serves as a foundation for nursing. It is designed to provide students with the knowledge of basic nursing principles, and skills needed for practising foundations of nursing which are needed for physiotherapists. This course also provides laboratory guided experience which helps the students to develop psycho-motor skills needed to provide safe basic nursing care. The course focuses on development of skills related to hospitalization, vital signs and functions, asepsis and infection control, maintaining safe environment, personal hygiene, and wound care.
11. Course objective: On completion of this course the student will be able to:
Understand development and basic principles of nursing.
Understand concepts of health, wellness and illness.
Describe types of health care delivery systems.
Recognize the basic nursing concepts underlying the nursing interventions in adult nursing care.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills of vital signs assessment and measurement
Recognize the principles of infection control and manifest skills related to medical and surgical asepsis.
Utilize the principles of good hygiene in providing body, hair, mouth and foot care.
Recognize the main principles of wound care and perform related skills.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills of preparation and administration of medications.
