2014 SCHOOL BASED ASSESSMENT MODERATION (SBAM) IN GENERAL EDUCATIONAND TRAINING (GET) BAND - GRADES 6, 7, 8 & 9
1. In 2013 the KZN Dept. of Education conducted a pilot study on SBAM in grade 9 to strengthenthe promotion system in the GET BAND. The pilot was successfully conducted in November in36 schools from 6 districts and covered 4 subjects.
2. SBAM will be conducted in all districts in two terms i.e. May and November 2014. Grades 6, 7, 8and 9 will be moderated in Mathematics, Language, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences on term1 tasks.
3. In May 2014, six (6) schools will be sampled from each of the following districts: Amajuba,Ilembe, Pinetown, Ugu, Umlazi and uThukela. These districts will be moderated by the officialsfrom the 6 districts that have not been sampled. (See Annexure D)
4. In November 2014, six (6) schools will be sampled from each of the following districts: Sisonke,Umzinyathi, Umgungundlovu, Umkhanyakude, Uthungulu and Zululand. These districts will bemoderated by the officials from the 6 districts that have not been sampled. (See Annexure E).
5. It is recommended that moderation be conducted at school, district and provincial levels to ensurecredibility and standardization of SB A across the province.
6. Attached is the management plan for the implementation of SBA moderation in the province.
