Certificate of Appropriateness Written Description for 721 Cortlandt Alteration
We request approval of a Certificate of Appropriateness to alter the appearance of thenoncontributing structure located at 721 Cortlandt (Heights South). This structure has gradeadjustment of D per Harris County Appraisal District evaluation. The proposed work will includeremoval of all exterior asbestos siding, trim, attic vents, windows and exterior doors. Newwindows, attic vents, and exterior doors will be installed with dimensions and locations that willprovide for a better aesthetic appearance for the structure. New fiber cement (Hardi or equal)lap siding and trim will be installed to harmonize with other residential units on the block.Existing composition shingle roofing will be replaced with new composition shingle roofing andexisting low slope roof portions will have new standing seam metal roofing and flashinginstalled. A new landscape trellis will be added to the front and sides of the structure. Thistrellis will be of painted rough cedar and will be installed with the front face aligning with thecommon setback on the block, offering an appealing solution to soften the haphazard rooflinesof the existing residence that have been added in prior renovations. This renovation will followthe criteria set for Section 33-241
