About 95% of subscribed cell phones are SMS capable. (CTIA, Feb 2006)

In the past 18 months, U.S. wireless subscribers grew by 25 million making this the highest growth year ever. (CTIA, Sept 2005)
Europe is the most mature wireless market with 96% penetration rates, followed by Japan (79%) and the US (69%). (World Telecoms, 2005)
Cell phone penetration is currently 69% of the U.S. population (70% in majormetro areas). By way of comparison, this is better than penetration figures for cable TV, home internet access and PC’s in the home.
