2018 Organic Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie:

Pinot Grigio is hugely popular but versions from warmer

climates can lack acidity. This one, however, is from cool-

er parts so has zippy lime acidity aplenty to freshen up its

pear and green apple fruit and hints of sherbet.

SCAMPTON PARISH COUNCIL At a meeting of Scampton Parish Council. Held on Thursday 5th September the following matters were discussed:

The following issues were raised by the member of the public present. There is a dog in the village which is rushing and barking alarmingly at passing people

and dogs. Two people had complained. The Clerk would contact Lockwoods. The trees, as previously noted, were still dropping dead wood. The Clerk would contact

Lockwoods again. A new dog waste bin was needed at the north end of the village. Cllr Patterson said he

would talk to WLDC. The bin by the wooden bus shelter was missing. The Clerk would look at the cost of a

replacement.

Risk Assessment – Cllrs. Plews and Patterson had carried out the Risk Assessment and apart from the issues (trees and lamp posts) which were already being attended to the only matter for concern was the bus shelter on the village green. Please see Minute Note below.

Refurbishment of the benches and the phone box – Joe Bartrop had confirmed that the refurbishment of the benches and phone box in the village would be carried out soon.

Trees on the village green – following the quote received from Phil Thomas and electronic vote had been taken and he has started the work on the trees. The proposed action was proposed by Cllr Patterson, seconded by Cllr Stead and agreed unanimously.

Bus Shelter – The Clerk had contacted the cleaner of the bus shelter, who said due to pres-sure of work, the shelter could no longer be cleaned. Cllr Stead had obtained a quote from his window cleaner of £60 per clean. Under the Risk Assessment it was the condition of the bus shelter that was causing concern. Steve Ulyat offer to look at the shelter and report back. (Continued on page 20)

Hello, My name is Mark and I have lived in Ingham for over 20 years, these are what I would want to take onto my Desert Island:

1. Lady in Red – Chris De Burgh The first vision of meeting my future wife and our first dance.

2. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant – Billy Joel Memories of my youth and one of the first albums that I bought

3. Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen Such an Iconic tack, memories of seeing them perform live at Wembley

4. Galway Girl – Ed Sheeran Brings back memories of my time living and working in Ireland

5. I will Always Love You – Whitney Houston Memories of one of my daughters singing her heart out in the car

6. The Crumpsall Cream Cracker Corned Beef Kamikaze Cubs Go to Camp – Mike Harding

Every ex cub or scout should listen to this track and associate with the words and actions of these cubs.

7. I Don’t Like Mondays – Boomtown Rats Sitting on my Venture Island, I wouldn’t have to worry about getting up for the daily routine and more over the start of that new week!

8. Things We Lost In The Fire – Bastille Ignites fond memories of 2 children who lived with us for a while and their en-thusiasm in singing this song.

VE Day 75th Anniversary – The ideas for the 75th VE Day celebrations were discussed, based on the plans of a chil-dren’s street party on 8th May, a forties evening on 9th and an open air service of thanks-giving on 10th. The items which were needed were Jeep Display, Hog roast, marquee, bar (hopefully to be done by the Dambusters) , funding, toilets, electricity and water, tables and chairs, and an outside entertainment licence and a street closure application for the children’s party. Mr and Mrs McElwe had kindly given permission for the use of the paddock for the For-ties Event. It was agreed that there would be a maximum of 250 tickets for the Forties evening and that although it was hoped to make the Street Party for children free they would need a ticket to attend as that was the only way we would know how many to cater for. Everyone would get costings before the next meeting so that we could draw up a budget so that we would be able to apply for funding. Lamp posts, Speed sign indicators and Road signs – Report from E-On that two of the pole mounted lights were in poor condition and should be replaced at a cost of £650.00 +VAT each. They are Nos 11 and 13. It was proposed by Cllr Patterson, seconded by Cllr Sneath and agreed unanimously that the work should be undertaken as soon as possible.

Closure of RAF Scampton – No further development.

Christmas Tree Lights- The Clerk would bring the lights to the next meeting to assess whether more should be purchased. It was suggested that a “turning on ceremony” with carols drinks etc should be promoted. The Clerk would speak to Charlie Hebborn, the Head Teacher. (Continued on Page 28)

Watch out, thieves about! - Two cast-iron urns and plinths have

This has all the flavour of a slow-cooked casserole but takes less than an hour to cook

Ingredients

12 shallots, peeled and left whole 8 Toulouse sausages or spicy/Lincolnshire sausages (we prefer Heck chicken sausages) 2 cloves of garlic, cut into slivers 2 tbsp olive oil 1 medium carrot, peeled and diced 400g borlotti beans, drained 400g can of tomatoes 150g shredded savoy cabbage 1 tbsp chopped parsley 500ml chicken stock 100ml red wine Black pepper and sea salt Bay leaf

Method

Heat the olive oil in a heavy-based sauté pan or saucepan, add the shal-lots and sausages and sauté for 4-5 minutes, browning them all over. Add the carrots and sauté for a further 3 minutes, not colouring them too much. Add the garlic and cook for a further 30 seconds, then add the tomatoes, beans, half the wine, stock, bay leaf, season well with sea salt and black pepper. Bring to the boil and simmer for a further 15 minutes on a low heat. If the soup becomes too thick, add a little more stock,

then add the finely shredded cab-bage, parsley and the rest of the red wine. Mix well and cook for a further 5 minutes, until the cabbage is just cooked. Slice the sausages into three, place

in a bowl, and pour over all the bean soup. Season to taste. Serve with crusty bread and chopped parsley.

So how did it all start? Greens of Aisthorpe is your local friendly garage run by Dave Green. It was founded in the 1960’s by Dave’s late father, George Green who started doing repairs and bodywork in a garage at

the bottom of his garden in Aisthorpe. Shortly after this, George was able to purchase the village garage and the business moved to its current site. Dave played an active role in the garage throughout his school years and started full time at 16. Due to poor health,

George took a back seat some years later and Dave took on the business and still loves his work 38 years on.

What type of cars does Dave like? Dave started his motoring years at the wheel of a Morris Minor, restored for him by George. He then moved on to a Mark 1 Escort, which to this day remains his favourite road car.

Page 33 e-mail: village. [email protected]

However, his most favourite car of all was his 1960’s Mini Rally Car, which was a full works replica, fully re-stored in his spare time at the garage. Dave enjoyed com-peting at Rally events throughout Lincolnshire pro-gressing to build

several other Rally vehicles.

Over the years, what changes did you make to the Garage ?

At the start of this century, a major renova-tion including building a showroom for the flourishing car sales business was undertaken. Dave’s passion for cars shines through with the showroom resembling a Mini Museum

with motoring memorabilia covering every inch.

What are the customers like? We have a fantastic customer base with people from all walks of life, many of whom have become close friends. One particular favour-ite is famous in the garage for his request that the locking wheel nuts be placed in ex-

actly the right position!

How do you feel about the future? The garage continues to grow from strength to strength and just like cars pro-gressing from a basic electrical system to complex manage-ment systems, Dave and his loyal team look forward to the development of elec-tric cars and continu-ing to look after local village vehicles for years to come.

The Club met in September to hear Michael Seal talk about bee keeping. He told us going to tell us about the WOW factor of bee keeping. And he certainly did that. Monks were the first people to keep bees in straw skeps as they needed the hon-ey as medicine and the wax for candles, previously the bees were just in the trees. We were also told about the fascinating life of a bee how queens are made and how she can chose whether the egg she lays is fertilised or not. It really was a very interesting evening, with far too many facts to report here. If one bee could produce 1lb of honey it would have to fly 60,000 miles, the equivalent of twice round the world! The next meeting will be on Wednesday 9th October at 7.30pm in The Dam-busters. It will be our annual produce show and the competition will be some-thing made using courgettes.

Seedlings Wood Group - Open Farm Sunday 2019

We opened the farm to the local community despite forecasts of heavy downpours! They were treated to Strawberry cream teas and tractor rides from 11am to 4pm.

Our main event was the Sheep shearing demonstration and visitors got to see the hard work of rounding up, penning up and shearing of our Shetland Sheep.

We keep all of our fleeces that are a variety of beautiful colours from Moorit red/black to Grey Katmoget and creamy white, all available online

Overall, the children and community that attended our Open Farm Sunday experienced a day out on a working farm. LEAF the organisation that organise all national farm events rang for feedback the next day and we are delighted to say that they want us to continue providing this work as we are giving local community the opportunity to experience farm-ing first hand!

For the latest events see our Facebook page and search for @seedlingswoodgroup

Seedlings Woodland Group meets Every Thursday at 10am at the Woodland Yurt at Brattleby Farm Storytime & Singing, gardening in the veggie patch and crafts activities.

LETTER FROM THE PARISH PRIEST

We are in it all together!

We often do not realize how we are all deeply and spiritually connected to each other! We are not just earthly beings but also spiritual beings. There is a spiritual heart within us and we are part of the universal heart of God. We definitely are not like isolated islands lost in a vast and lonely ocean ! We belong to each other and we are related to each other in one way or another!

When we make right choices as individual beings we enjoy physical and spiritual well being. Wrong choices lead us to ill-being. Our choices influence not just us or others but also the entire planet we live in. That is why I said that we are part of the whole! Consider the climate change! Every thought we think and every deed we do influence our planet one way or another. We are responsible for the present state of our planet Earth because we are in it altogether.

The thing is that for better or for worse, we are inextricably inter-related. Our thoughts and actions have consequences both at individual and cosmic levels. Of-ten, instead of building each other up we have a tragic penchant to destroy each other. The history of Europe in the last century is a tragic memory. But let me as-sure you: Jesus Christ has embraced our human paradox by his death and resurrec-tion. He has thus initiated a new order of life in creation – the power and energy of love, human and divine that transforms all things even the worst case scenario!

The new life Jesus inaugurated is the ‘The Kingdom of God’, ‘The Kingdom of Love.’ This love is what the Holy Spirit filled the Earth with at the beginning of creation and again at Pentecost. There is hope for the world and the planet only in love. Love is the Answer for All. Jesus said: “This is my commandment that you love one another.” It is as simple or difficult as that!

When we love one another, care for each other, respect each other there is hope for the world. And when we care for and respect our bodies, our souls and our environ-ment there is hope. We are in it all together. We have a future only ‘together’. Will the leaders at all levels – religious, political, cultural and business – recognize this truth?

What is happening to our lovely planet today is a reflection of how we deal with our own physical bodies and our lives and how our actions and words have conse-quences. It is never too late to retrieve ourselves and our lives! It is never too late to protect and save our beloved home, the ‘Earth’! We can and must do it! Let us leave the earth a better place for our children and grand-children! We’re in it alto-gether!
