Today’s Order of Service - 10.00 am

This morning’s service follows the Eucharistic Liturgy ‘Thanksgiving and Praise’ commencing on page 476 in the red New Zealand Anglican Prayer Book; the tunes for the hymns may be found in Common Praise, the blue hymn book in the pews;

Presider: Rev’d David van Oeveren Preacher: Rev’d Dorothy Brooker Organist: Gary Bowler

Opening Hymn: We have a Gospel to proclaim CP612 - tune: Fulda

Welcome: Rev’d David van Oeveren

NZPB page: 476 The Gathering of the Community

NZPB page: 478 Song of Praise

NZPB page: 478-9 Confession / Forgiveness / Absolution

Sentence: Be gracious to us O God and bless us: and make the light of your face to shine upon us, that your ways may be known upon earth, your saving power among all nations. Psalm 67: 1-2

Collect: God of compassion, you love every person without exception. Turn our hearts so that we may love our neighbour.

1 We have a gospel to proclaim, good news for all throughout the earth; the gospel of a Saviour’s name: we sing his glory, tell his worth.

2 Tell of his birth at Bethlehem not in a royal house or hall but in a stable dark and dim, the Word made flesh, a light for all.

3 Tell of his death at Calvary, hated by those he came to save, in lonely suffering on the cross; for all he loved his life he gave.

4Tell of that glorious Easter morn:

empty the tomb, for he was free. He broke the power of death and hell that we might share his victory.

5 Tell of his reign at God’s right hand, by all creation glorified. He sends his Spirit on his church to live for him, the Lamb who died.

6 Now we rejoice to name him King:

Jesus is Lord of all the earth. This gospel-message we proclaim: we sing his glory tell his worth.

Remove from us everything we use to exclude our sisters and brothers. Guard the door of our lips so that what we say may be worthy of our calling as your people. We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

We greet the people near us, saying ‘Peace be with you’ / ‘Kia tau te rangimarie’.

During the next hymn the bread and wine, symbols of Christ’s life, are brought to the altar; our offerings of money that support the mission and ministry of the Cathedral are collected and brought forward also.

Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love; where there is injury, your pardon, Lord; and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

Refrain:

O Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved, as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope; Where there is darkness, only light; And where there’s sadness, ever joy.

Refrain: O Master, grant ...

Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive; and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

Offertory Hymn: O Lord, we thank you tune: Londonderry Air [CP54]

1 O Lord we thank you for your body broken; the bread we eat in memory of you.

We humbly come before you in thanksgiving;

refreshed, renewed in everything we do.

O help us Lord to unify your body;

to share with all our neighbours and our friends

the joy of peace and blessings of your Spirit -

the bread you give, as us into the world your send.

2 O let us come and drink this wine forever,

take and receive the love Christ gives to you;

for Jesus came and died in all his glory,

to show the world that life could start anew.

For through his death and through his resurrection,

and through the blood he shed on Calvary,

we too have died and risen with our Saviour -

and now the blood of Christ can run through you and me.

3 We thank you Lord, for you restored new life to us;

we see the light, the darkness now has gone.

With every day, a new and loving feeling;

for peace and love and joy we ever pray.

Renewed in faith we go to share your glory,

to follow Christ in all we think and say;

and so to God we give all praise and glory,

in living out our lives according to God’s way.

Bishop Andrew travelling to Papua New Guinea

The Anglican Church in Papua New Guinea (ACPNG) have announced that the Rt Rev’d Alan Migi will be enthroned as Archbishop on Sunday 3 September 2017 at a service in Lae. Bishop Andrew will be travelling to the service with Hugh McBain to represent the Diocese and the H&W Williams Trust respectively. The Bishop will be away in PNG for around a week from 28 August and the visit will include time in Port Moresby and Lae building on the relationships estab-lished with ACPNG over several years and more recently from the pilgrimage in 2015. Bishop Alan hosted Bishop Andrew in the Diocese of the Islands in 2015 along with pilgrims from other provinces.

Bishop Andrew and Hugh will also attend a missions partners meeting in Lae on the day following the enthronement to discuss future development of the relationship be-tween Waiapu and ACPNG.

Your prayerful support of Bishop Andrew, Hugh and all who are traveling to this sig-nificant service are welcome.

Waiapu has a special mission relationship with ACPNG on behalf of our province of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. Bishop Andrew would like to make a presentation to Bishop Alan on behalf of the Diocese and would welcome donations towards a gift for the occasion, hopefully a gift of pounamu. Bishop Andrew would also like to be able to support some of the local clergy with two chalices to support their itinerant ministry in remote places. A dona-tion from each parish of $50-$100 would greatly help these two projects to get un-derway.

Donations may be made direct to the Angli-can Diocese of Waiapu ANZ bank (Napier) account: 01-0685-0216161-00 with the ref-erence 7230/001 and your name.
