INTRODUCTION

Tool Room & Training Centre (TRTC) at Wazirpur Industrial Area, Delhi and Hi-Tech Vocational Training Centre (HTVTC) at Okhla Industrial Area New Delhi were established, with technical and financial assistance of Government of Denmark and Government of Italy respectively, with the objective of contributing towards the development of industries in and around Delhi through supply of trained manpower, undertaking job work of machining and manufacturing of sophisticated tools. These centres were functioning as independent societies, registered under the societies registration act, 1860 each having separate Governing council and General body of the society. The societies of TRTC and HTVTC have been amalgamated and renamed as Delhi Institute of Tool Engineering (DITE). DITE has come into existence w.e.f. 28th Nov. 2007 and is functioning from Wazirpur Industrial area and Okhla Industrial area as Campus – I and Campus – II respectively. DITE has been playing a vital role in the development of micro, small and medium

industries through supply of trained manpower in the field of tool making and tool

designing and supply of sophisticated tools such as dies, moulds, press tools, jigs,

fixtures etc. for the past over thirty years. The Institute runs post- ITI courses in machine

operations and die fitting, and AICTE approved Diploma course in Tool & Die Making,

Diploma course in Mechanical Engineering, B. Tech (Tool Engineering), B. Tech

(Mechatronics) and M. Tech (Tool Engineering) to cater to ever challenging needs of

technical excellence in the area of Tool Engineering and Mechatronics. The trainees are given on the job training by well qualified faculty of the Institute. The diploma courses offered by Institute are affiliated to Board of Technical Education, Govt. of NCT Delhi and the, B. Tech and M. Tech Course are affiliated to GGSIP university. The Institute also conducts various short term courses in the field of Tool Engineering, operation & maintenance of CNC machines. The institute is also manufacturing sophisticated tools for the reputed Industries viz. Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO), National Institute of Visually handicapped (NIVH), DTC, IIT Delhi, National Physical Laboratory, Minda, Steel Strips India Ltd etc. It also provides consultancy service in the field of Tool Engineering to the SSI sector. DITE is perhaps the only Institute in the country where the degree level course in Tool Engineering is being conducted. Our endeavour is to make DITE as the centre of Excellence in Tool Engineering and Integrated Engineering. The Trainees of the Institute are absorbed by the industries through campus interview during the final year of their training period.

INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH DEPARTMENT (PRODUCTION):

The Institute has a Production Wing which is manufacturing tools, dies, moulds, jigs

and fixtures die casting dies, press tools etc. for industries. The Tool Production Centre

at DITE (formerly known as TRTC) provides comprehensive and integrated facilities for

Design, Development and Production of precision Tools, Moulds and Dies.

Manufacturing of precision components on CNC machines & heat treatment of

precisions parts and tooling. In fulfilling these objectives DITE has come a long way & has

a lot to offer in education & consultancy. The advantage of in-house facilities, world class

machines like Fanuc wire cut machine, Blohm Grinder, Deckel milling, Catmur Jig Grinder,

Studer Cylindrical Grinder, EDM , Hauser Profile Projector, Nikon Microscope, Digimahr

Height Master etc. is taken by the Industries in Delhi. DITE’s association in R&D projects

with major R&D Institutions like IIT, DRDO, CSIR, NPL etc. is also worth mentioning.

Future Plans a) ACADEMIC EXPANSION

i) The proposal for starting another stream in Mechanical Engineering at Degree level

is underway. ii) Augmenting the no of seats in the various courses from 60 to 120. iii) Short Term Training courses are being refreshed with a special focus and

simultaneously the back end infrastructure like AC class rooms for

students/sponsors from industry with proper course material is being required.

b) ABOUT LATEST TECHNOLOGY

DITE aims to be the pioneer in India to procure & use the latest technologies in imparting

service to all stake holders including the students. DITE intends to procure latest version

of Computer hardware & Design software like Pro-E, CATIA, Unigraphics & Auto Cad. The

repair of old machines & procuring the CNC & latest technology machines to gainfully

attend the employability skill in the youth in this era of global competition is our first

priority. DITE is already looking forward to the partnership with Tech Mahindra

Foundation for implementing the SMART-T (Skill for Market) Technical Training project

under CSR scheme in the current FY-2015-16. Also efforts are on to get sponsorship with

NKN (National Knowledge Network) for use of information technology to the fullest in

DITE, with MSME & NCVT, DITE is also trying to strengthen the machinery status and

affiliation status respectively.

c) ABOUT THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

In 2015 DITE has vigorously started revamping & overhauling of the old buildings through

DSIIDC with a plan to remodel the civil structure in order to suit the roadmap of DITE.

The restructuring & re-layout of service sectors like Reception, conference room, Store,

Maintenance, Resource Centres, Workshops, Class rooms, Labs etc. are on the anvil. The

Grant in Aid received from the Govt. is optimally used and the enormous task of civil

remodelling needs a continual impetus in terms of finance and manpower.

d) MAN POWER

DITE throbs on the in-house skilled manpower for its present training modules, but to

meet the future training competency, the challenge to arrange the requisite man-skill

has to be taken up through hiring consultants, guest faculty, contractual staff etc.
