THE REQUIREMENTS

THE SOLUTION

The Council required a hardwearing aggregate due to the heavy footfall of theHighStreet. It had to provide the required aesthetic qualities to stand out andimprove the area, whilst at the same time being affordable at a time when publicfunds were being closely monitored and cuts being made. The High Street was notgoing to be closed during the refurbishment (which included a raft of other changesto traffic flow, road widths and paving) meaning that the DekorGrip surface had tobe laid in an active environment.

The council chose DekorGrip’s Resin Bound system – DekorBound –and a Barley Beach aggregate, at a depth of 16mm. This buff colouredaggregate is made from a blend of tough stones between 2 and 5mmin size – ideal for heavily trafficked areas, such as high streets. DekorGrip was able to advise the Council that by choosing thiscolour stone, they would be able to save money through using anon-UV resin (non-UV resin discolours to a toffee/yellow colourover time when exposed to sunlight but this is not noticeable withcertain aggregates).

DekorGrip were also able to help with the timing and delivery issues that the Councilcontractor faced. Through close communication and planning, the resin, which needs tobe kept in a warm place overnight to maintain pliability, was stored at the DekorGripwarehouse located nearby whilst the preparation work was done and then shipped on demand, straight to the site when the weather allowed the resin bound system to be laid. This removed the need to storematerials on site, which would havecaused more disruption to the publicin what was a working High Street. It also meant that the system was laidin the correct conditions, meaningthe contractor and Council did nothave to worry about delays andassociated repairs.

The Council were so impressed withthe advice, service and system thatthey have specified the use of DekorGripin a number of other projects.
