Japan Mission Trip

2018

Mission Team: Pastor Dan Lee

Stacey Lee Richard Singletary Patricia Thompson

On October 29, the Outreach team organized an event at the Feed My Starving Chil-dren site in Libertyville packing meals to be shipped to Haiti. We started with a light supper provided by the United Methodist Women then twelve of us drove over to FMSC to work at different jobs in the FMSC facility. Everyone worked hard, had a great time, and then purchased some goods in the FMSC shop to help support their mis-sion. We are planning another trip to FMSC on Saturday, February 23 from 2 - 4 pm if you want to lend a hand next time we go.

A Word from Pastor Mike

On Monday, December 24, at 7 pm

and 11 pm, the Cary United Metho-

dist Church family will gather for

Christmas Eve Worship. We will read

the scripture from Luke 2 of the an-

nouncement of the birth of Je-

sus: “But the angel said to them, ‘Do

not be afraid; for see—I am bringing

you good news of great joy for all the

people: to you is born this day in the

city of David a Savior, who is the

Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign

for you: you will find a child wrapped

in bands of cloth and lying in a man-

ger.” What a blessing to read these

wonderful words and to experience

again the reality that God has come

near to love us, save us, and heal

us. No matter how many times we

read this greatest of all love stories,

we cannot help but be inspired by this

central message of Christmas.

I love that our worship celebrations

include the singing of carols and the

lighting of individual candles. We will

sing Hark the Herald Angels Sing, the

magnificent carol from Charles Wes-

ley, one of the founders of the Meth-

odist movement. The words of this

song remind us that our voices are a

response to a heavenly choir. We will

sing Joy to the World and proclaim

the wonders of God’s love. We will

sing Silent Night as our candles are lit

and we are assured that Jesus is the

Son of God and “love’s pure light.”

In Matthew’s Gospel, we read that

Magi visited Jesus and brought him

gifts of gold, frankincense, and

myrrh. Throughout the history of

Christianity, believers have demon-

strated incredible generosity in giving

gifts to others, especially the poor and

needy. I encourage you to contribute

to our Christmas offering as we con-

tinue to be faithful to God’s call to pro-

claim the good news, make disciples

of all persons, and care for the most

vulnerable in our midst.

May God in Christ bless you richly,

Pastor Michael Hickok

Dear Friends and Members:

Greetings in the name of our Lord

Jesus Christ.

You may have noticed that over

three months before the Christmas,

stores are stocking up the stuff for

sale. You may be preparing for

Christmas shopping. Perhaps some

of you may have done your shopping

already. Very soon homes will be

decorated with Christmas trees and

streets of our town will remind us that

it is Christmastime. It is the season to

be jolly and prompts us to give gifts

to our loved ones.

However, have you ever thought

about how love affects giving? Love

prompts us to give of our time, abili-

ties and resources. The Bible tells us

that God is not an abstract idea but

God is love. The embodiment of that

love – is his beloved Son, Jesus,

whose birthday we are about to cele-

brate. In Jesus, God did not withhold

anything but gave himself to the en-

tire world. The purpose is that the

human race be saved from sin and

its disastrous consequences, but be

liberated to love and care for one an-

other. Have you ever accepted God’s

love through his Son Jesus? If not,

then let this Christmas season why

not give yourself the gift of salvation.

Make God smile and his joy will be-

come your strength for all the days of

your life!!

Merry Christmas!

Your servant in Christ,

Pastor George David

From the desk of Pastor George

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever

believes shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NIV

Christmas Poinsettias Looking ahead to the Advent sea-son, we will soon be ordering our red 6” poinsettia plants, to decorate the Sanctuary.

Poinsettias can be taken home after the 11 pm worship service on Christmas Eve.

Look for the order forms in the Sun-day bulletin or in the Narthex on the information center. Orders can be placed in the offering plate or to the office. Prices are not available yet.

Shopping/Gift Card Update The Merchant list for your Christmas gift order is available at the card table. Payment or credit slip is not due until you pickup your order. The last day to order is Sunday, Dec. 16. Some cards on the list are special order and need extra time to deliver. Or-der early and avoid delay and back orders. John is out the critical two weeks in De-cember. Sue Heizer will be working the desk. Please order early to help CUMC and Sue with the holiday order. The sale of cards at this time is an important fund raiser.

The Giving Tree

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing !

“Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled.” Charles Wesley wrote this time

honored poem in 1739 and Felix Men-

delssohn composed the music for this

hymn in 1840. Emotions soar while

the music lifts our spirits with joy.

“Glory to the newborn King” is tradi-

tionally sung everywhere, by every-

one together bringing ‘light and life to

all.

Throughout the month of Decem-

ber our music will reflect the joyful an-

ticipation and prayerful preparation for

the Birth of Our Lord. The Chancel

Choir is preparing to sing for the 7pm

Service on Christmas Eve. A Christ-

mas Chamber Trio will share instru-

mental music played by Heidi and

Carol Meuth and Kathleen Cizewski

at the 11 pm Service. We will worship

with the ‘Festival of Lessons and Car-

ols’ at both Services. Plan on joining

us. ‘O Come, Let us adore Him’,

Christ, the Lord !’

The Chancel Choir welcomes new

members. Rehearsals are on Thurs-

day’s at 7:30 pm. in the Sanctuary.

All rehearsal dates are listed in the

bulletin and newsletter calendar. An-

other opportunity to share your music

without the weekly rehearsals, is to

offer a Sunday for the Special Music,

the Gift of Music meditation during

our worship. Instrumental or vocal

solo’s, duets, small ensembles, etc.

are welcome. See our Minister of Mu-

sic, Kathleen Cizewski on Sunday.

God’s Peace and Blessings to you, at

this most holy time of the year.

Kathleen Cizewski + UMC Minister of Music "The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul." JS Bach (1685-1750)

Trick or Treat for UNICEF fundraiser had a total of 10 boxes turned in and the children were able to raise $156.00 for chil-dren in need. This is a good lesson for the kids to experience the natural outpouring of the Holy Spirit working within people. In our trusting relationship with Him we freely and happily give.

Angels We Have Heard on High

December 16th

8:30 AM Church Service

On December 16th the Sunday School Chil-dren will be singing songs of praise for the birth of our Lord and Savior. After the service all are encouraged to partake of food and fellowship in Fellowship Hall. Sun-day School will follow at 9:45.
