The floating design of our neck turner and the universal floating case driver allows the case mouth (bore) to run on the arbor absolutely concentric. Therefore allowing O.D. to be turned concentric with I.D. The tail-stock creates a horizontal inline support for the base of the case. Also allows the operator to keep both hands on the power screw driver or drill. This makes it very easy to control feed rate of the cutting operation, generating a very fine turned finish. Case holder drivers are designed to be the most gentle driver, yet providing an adequate hold. DOES NOT DRIVE OFF THE PRIMER POCKET NO PRIMER POCKET OR CASE DAMAGE. Driver shaft is hexed to use power screw driver or drill. 17cal. Fireball to a .416 Rigby. Also 50cal.

Sept 14-19, 2015 To be honest with everyone, I real-ly had no idea who placed where or even who shot the small groups un-til I sat down to write this up. I had to dig out the stats and do some re-search. I remember some rain one day and that the weather as a whole was the best we have ever had in St Louis for a National event. I have always been the guy behind the scenes keep-ing the range working and the target crew on track; this was my first time in the “barrel” so to speak-- being in charge of everything. I learned a long time ago that it’s better to surround yourself with smart, hardworking peo-ple rather than try to learn or do it all yourself. From the reports I have gotten back they must have pulled it off. We had the same great target crew that has been here from the 2005 Nationals and almost all of the East-West matches A few of the faces have changed but the core is still busting butt to put on a great show. For all the paper work and technical stuff we had a real professional, Nancy Scarbrough as Match Director, I can’t count how many National events she has been in-volved with and she not only did this Nationals but backed it up with the World Championship the following week. With a great crew anything is possible. Just a quick THANK YOU to them all for making me look good. Throughout the week’s events we had 204 shooters participate with over

50 participants from 18 countries shooting in these Nationals some just practiced, but others were in the fight to win. This was the best attended NBRSA National event in almost a decade. No World records were busted or tied so the St Louis winds must have been doing their job. We did have two range records bested; local Club member Bill Cook shot a small group in the Light Varmint 100 yard of .049 and Texan Gene Bukys shot a .047 in the Heavy Varmint 100 Yard. Both new range records so each of them will be receiving a check for $100. As they say “the check is in the mail”. The results follow, but to sum up, the Unlimited 10 shot 100 yard win-ner was Tony Boyer and Unlimited 10 shot 200 yard top placement was Bob Scarbrough Jr. Taking home first in the Unlimited Grand was Mike Conry. In Sporter 100 yard, Joe Hynes took first place and Tony Boy-er came back to win the Sporter 200 but Joe Hynes came back to claim Champion in the Sporter Grand. Moving to the Light Varmint 100, Buddy Ross claimed victory and back again was Tony Boyer with the Light Varmint 200 yard and Light Varmint Grand wins. Finally, the Heavy Var-mint 100 yard top placement went to Charles Huckeba and Joe Hynes came back to win the Heavy Varmint 200 yard stage and Australian, Mur-

ray Hicks took first in the Heavy Var-mint Grand. Moving on to the Two Gun, (Sporter & Light Varmint), Gene Bukys is the 2015 Champion followed by Tony Boyer, Joe Hynes Scott Smallwood and Billy Ste-vens in the top five placements. Not satisfied with that, Gene continued his winning steak by bringing home the Three Gun Championship (Sporter, Light and Heavy Varmint). Gene was followed by Joe Hynes, Tony Boyer, Billy Stevens and Chris Harris. Finally, after a week of hard-slung dog fight-ing, Joe Hynes rose to the top of the 200 contestants to win the Four Gun Championship for 2015. Joe was fol-lowed by Billy Stevens, Chris Harris, Bob Scarbrough Jr and Mike Conry in the Four Gun. Great shooting by great shooters, some say luck, but we that play this game know all too well the work that goes into achieving those small groups. Great job shooters and good luck keeping them small in the future. Also, I cannot let you go without rec-ognizing all the foreign shooters that came and participated in these Na-tionals. Standing out from the crowd was Jari Laulumaa from Finland, Steve Sori from Australia, Hugh Williamson from Canada and Murray Hicks from Australia who not only stood out, they whooped some butt and Murray Hicks took home the Heavy Varmint Grand Champion Title. Not only that, but we had two Junior Shooters contend as

August 1-2, 2015 Well, the weather partially cooper-ated and we didn’t have any afternoon monsoons interrupt our tournament on Saturday. On Sunday, however, we did get a brief taste of an afternoon show-er and microburst winds. Otherwise it was warm and light but blustery can-yon winds made for challenging condi-tions all the same. Partly cloudy skies during the weekend did moderate the mirage to a tolerable level. Lou Murdica shot the only screamer group. A nice .196 in the LV200. Lou also shot the small group in the LV100, a .105 in match 5. Rod Brown shot the only teen aggs this weekend, a .1982 in the HV100 and a .1993 in the HV Grand. Rod just missed another teen agg in the HV200 with a .2004. As shown, it was the “Rod Brown Show” of this year in Springville as he swept the Two, Three and Four Gun Cham-pionships. Congratulations Rod on a great year in Utah! Lowell Frei gave Rod a strong run for his money by winning both the LV yardages with a .2294 in the 100 and .2457 in the 200 for a .2376 Grand agg win. Rod Brown was second in the LV grand with a .2537 and Lou Murdica was close behind in third with a .2564 grand agg. After enjoying a good pizza lunch, Rod Brown shot the small group in the first HV100 match on his way to win-ning the yardage with a .1982 agg. Larry White took second place with a .2270 and Bruce Black shot a .2446 for third. Making sure the women got some recognition, Janet Goulette shot the small group for the LV100; a nice .106 considering the conditions. Shooting the HV200 Sunday morning, Rod Brown continued his winning ways by taking the small groups in three of the five matches including small group for the yardage of .221. Rod found his “heavy varmint groove” and swept the 200 agg with tidy 0.2004. Lowell Frei shot a .2523 for second and Scott Smith took third with .2809. Rod Brown won the HV Grand with a .1993. Scott Smith took second with .2848 and Marty Childers took third with .2866. Sunday afternoon’s LV200 started with Lowell Frei shooting the small

group in Match 1; a .313, on his way to winning the yardage and LV Grand. Lowell won the agg with a .2457 with Lou Murdica in second with .2497 and Rod Brown placing third with .2548. Lowell’s .2376 won the LV Grand with Rod Brown taking second with .2537 and Lou Murdica in third with .2564. As the weekend shooting for 32 com-petitors came to a close, Rod Brown won the LV & HV Two Gun Champion-ship with a nice .2265 Grand agg. Low-ell Frei placed second with a .2727 and Lou Murdica took third with a .2801. This is the same order for the Three and Four Gun winners, as Rod, Lowell and Lou took first, second and third in these categories too. Congratulations to the winners and a BIG thank you to all who came and competed with us this year. We appre-ciate your support and look forward to seeing you in 2016. A hearty thanks to Dave Tunbridge and his crew; Shane, Marsha, Misty Sierra and Justin for all your time and effort in hosting our tournaments.--The Crew at Central Utah Benchrest

Land’s End Benchrest’sFour Gun Championship

July 18-19, 2015 Tom Stiner, Dan Dowling and crew pulled out the stops to put on a su-per match; however, they couldn’t hold off a Saturday weather from hell, as rain and wind gusts of over 20mph pelted everyone. Sunday was a laid-back, shooter friendly day and we were most grateful! Nineteen shooters were present and ready for the second half of the Land’s End Four Gun Champi-onship; the last leg to be contested is the Purple Haze in October. Lar-ry whooped up on us again. Rod-ney was hot on his tail though. It’s always fun competing on the local range here in Grand Junction de-spite the tough conditions on Sat-urday. I can’t say enough how hard work and dedication really pays off. Congrats Larry and Rodney. I really look forward to shooting with everybody. Seeing our friends and the great camaraderie is the best part. Anyone that has never been to a group match is missing out. Welcome to Dennis, a new shooter that shot on Sunday. Super nice folks! I feel everyone there is a winner. It’s that much fun!

Fairchance InvitationalAugust 8-9, 2015

Bill Reahard and Jerry VanSicle hosted the annual Fairchance In-vitational once again. This is the precursor for the Eastern Regionals held here in September and with the St Louis Group Nationals short-ly after, it was a great warm-up for these fine shooters. Saturday the 100 LV and UNL were shot and Sunday the 200 yardag-es were contested. Bill Brawand took the lead winning the LV100 but Charlie Gough was just get-ting started and won the LV200 and Grand. Ken Hottenstein stepped up to the plate and took first in the UNL100 but Al Auman was at the ready and won the UNL200 and Grand. Sneaking up when no one was looking, Hal Drake took the Two Gun win for 2015. Looks like many different names graced the top slot for this match. Congratulations Hal on winning the Two Gun and to everyone for a fun fight. Thank you for attending and we hope you come back and visit us again next year. A big thank you to the target crew and all the other unsung heros that make run-ning a match possible. --Bill & Jerry

Holmen Rod & Gun Club’s 5th Annual Roy Oines Memorial

The fifth annual REO Memorial Two Gun was held at Holmen on August 9-30, 2015. Saturday’s weather was cool and cloudy with a light breeze as the fifteen shooters took their hunter rifles to the firing line. Six people shot 250’s with Steve Call ending up with 16 X’s for the 100-yard top spot. Steve was shooting a Remington that Roy E Oines built shortly before his passing that will just plain shoot. Second place went to Brett Stiner with 15 X’s followed by Mark Taylor with 14 X’s. Bruce and his crew put the feed bag on us so we had the strength to make it out way to 200 yard fir-ing line, however, most competi-tors and crew were thinking about a nap after over-eating pork ten-derloin with all the trimmings fol-lowed by peach and strawberry cobblers (dutch ovens) under loads of ice cream. Dick Baier was call-ing the match and inspired Relay 1 to make their way to the line. The 200-yard champ is Wade Hun-newell with 249-4X with Dean Wal-ther in second with 248-10X and Mike Bigelow in third with 248-3X. Wade also nabbed the Grand by posting 499-11X. Ron Bertrand took runner up with 497-24X. James Le-derer was third with 497-16X. Sunday we shot VFS100 and the leader board changed after ev-ery match. Ten of the thirteen shooters shot 250’s. Chad Schmidt fought back with his last 3 targets of 5X for the win; a 250-21X. James Lederer placed second and Brett Stiner in third. Steve Call shot his HBR gun and scope change placed tenth with 250-15X. Brett Stiner took home the 200 yard championship and set our club range record with his 250-12X. Chad Schmidt, Dean Walther and James Lederer also shot 250’s; 9X, 6X and 4X respectively. VFS Grand and another range re-

cord went to Brett Stiner with 500-32X. Chad Schmidt, Dean Walther and James Lederer posted 500’s with 9X, 6X and 4X respectively. Congratulations Gentlemen.Thank you to everyone who at-tended and helped make the “Roy Shoot” memorial memorable. --Craig Nagel

December, 2015 Precision Rifleman 23Midland Shooters Assn’s 2015 Buffalo Classic

August 29-30, 2015 As the shooters began to arrive for practice on Friday, the weather was downright Hot, with the high for Fri-day topping out at 99F, and the fore-cast for Saturday was for light to mod-erate north wind and 94F. What we got was overcast skies, rain sprinkles and the temperature topping out at about 83F. Just about as good as it gets for Midland in August, with light switch-ing north winds. Winning the LV100 in the morning was Aaron French with a .1894, pretty good shooting Aaron! Second was Mike Conry, .1934 and Scott Haywood was third, .2126. Steve Murphy shot the small group for the yardage, a nice .103. After the lunch break, in the HV100, Aaron French again came out on top, shooting another teen aggregate, an impressive .1804. Finishing second again was Mike Conry, .1910, and Gary Bristow rounded out the top three with a .2034 aggregate. Aaron French also shot the small group, a tiny .075. As the frames and flags were moved out to shoot the 200 yard aggregates the next day, the talk was about the forecast for Sunday; low in the mid 60s and high in the mid 90s with mild winds to start, picking up as the day progressed. True to the forecast, Sunday started out about 65F, and little wind. Charles Huckeba made believers out of all of us that he still has it, winning the HV200 with a .1641 aggregate (really? In Midland?) Mike Conry was second, .1710 and Steve Murphy was third, .1912. Kelly Morman shot the small group, an impressive .168. As the day wore on, true to the fore-cast, the temperature rose into the low 90s and the wind picked up from the south, typical Midland conditions, however this did not faze Gene Bukys as he won the LV200, shooting a .2208 aggregate. Mike Conry finished sec-ond for the fourth time this weekend, .2211 and Dickie Pustejovsky rounded out the top three with a .2262 aggre-gate. Gene Bukys also shot the small group, a nice .271. Mike Conry won the LV grand with a .2072, followed by Gene Bukys, .2358, Dickie Pustejovsky, .2490, Ken Ter-

rell, .2495 and Steve Murphy, .2612. Mike Conry also won the HV grand with a .1810, Aaron French was sec-ond, .2102, Scott Haywood was third, .2310, B.G. Lott was fourth, .2356 and Gary Bristow was fifth with a .2559 ag-gregate. In the Two-Gun, Gary Bristow fin-ished fifth, .2664, BG Lott was fourth, .2625, Steve Murphy was third, .2585, Aaron French was second, .2453, and winning the 2015 Buffalo was Mike Conry with an unusually small two-gun aggregate (for Midland) of .1941. As this was the last group match in the Gulf Coast region for the year, it was time to recognize the Gulf Coast region shooter of the year. Tying for fifth were Larry Baggett and Tommy Long, fourth was John Horn, third was Charles Huckeba, second was Tim Olt-ersdorf, and winning the honor of be-ing the Gulf Coast region shooter of

the year for the third year in a row was Gary Bristow. Many thanks go out to all the folks who worked sooo hard to make this match one of the best run matches a shooter could hope to attend any-where! Hope to see all you folks here next year! --Mike Conry In the photo: Back row: Gene Bukys, BG Lott, Steve Murphy, Charles Hucke-ba, Dickie Pustejovsky & Scott Hay-wood. Front row: Mike Conry, Aaron French & Gary Bristow.

December, 2015 Precision Rifleman 25North Central Regional Prairie Dog Target Club

July 4-5, 2015

On Saturday July 4th nineteen shoot-ers were present for the Prairie Dog 100-200-300 North Central Regional Heavy Varmint and Prairie Dog Shoot at the Prairie Dog Target Club. The weather was sunny and warm. The whole countryside was still a beautiful green from the June rains. Both weekend days started in the low 70s and increased to the mid-80s by mid-afternoon. Saturday the winds were southerly at our backs all day. Keith Hakeman took command of the HV100 by shooting the yardages small group, a 0.135, on the first target and went on to win easily with an 18 ag-gregate. Dave Gibson was second and Terry Hettich third. At 200 yards the old geezer Darrel Phillips shot the small group in two of the five matches to win with a nice 24 agg. Terry Het-tich was second and Bill Pond third. Darrel took small group honors with a 0.271. In the HV300 we had minimal mirage and it was no problem seeing bullet holes. Bill Pond won the 300 yard aggregate convincingly with a 24 agg. Dave Tunbridge was second and Terry Hettich third. Small group was a 0.414 shot by Bill Pond. At the fifth target Don Deckert hung an animal target next to each 300 yard target. We could put one and only one shot on the animal target. The prize for hitting closest to a bullseye on the animal was a 5 dollar gold piece which was won by Dave Gibson. The 100-200-300 aggre-gate winner and winner of the Prairie Dog Trophy for 2015 was Terry Hettich with a 0.2825 aggregate which edged out Darrel Phillips’ 0.2826 aggregate, Bill Pond finished in third. On Sunday morning we started the North Central Regional Light Varmint and 3rd leg of the 4 gun. We began the day at 200 yards. The old geezer Darrel Phillips was the 200 yard win-ner followed by Terry Hettich and Mel Klasi. Small group was a 0.244 shot by Bill Pond. As we changed flags for the 100 yard stage the winds switched from north to south and the humid-ity dropped. After the first target the winds came around to the east giving us a strong right to left push for the

remainder of the match. Rod Brown won the LV100 with Mel Klasi second and Darrel Phillips third. Small group was a 0.142 shot by Cliff McNairy. Dar-rel Phillips put his third and first place finishes together to win the LV 100-200 aggregate. Rod Brown was second and Mel Klasi third. The Two Gun consisting of the 100-200-300 yard HV and the 100-200 yard LV was won by Darrel Phillips with a 0.2748 aggregate followed by Bill Pond in second and Terry Hettich third. We had a great 4th of July weekend of shooting. Thanks to Don Deckert for scoring, Dave Tunbridge for running the computer, Bud Schalles for being

match director, and Kristen Pippert and Vereen Forster were target crew. --Mel KlasiIn the photo back row: Keith Hake-man, Bill Pond, Rod Brown, Mike Beard, Dave Gibson holding Lily and Dave Tunbridge. Front: Cliff & Bran-don McNairy, Terry Hettich & Darryl Phillips.

Over Labor Day Weekend 66,000 “Burners” frolicked in the alkali dust of the Nevada Black Rock Desert to celebrate the Annual Burning Man Festival. Meanwhile, 90 miles to the southwest, the Palomino Valley Gun Club hosted nine brave shooters to contest the NBRSA Long Range Var-mint Nationals at the Washoe County Regional Shooting Facility in North-ern Nevada. The competitors faced below normal temperatures and sus-tained winds of 20-25mph Saturday morning for LV 300yds. In winds of 20-25mph, Steve Archibald’s .5079 agg earned him top honors followed by Henry Pinkney’s .5601 and Mark Ronchetti’s .6218. Everet Smith shot the smallest 300yd group of the day at 1.006”. Next up was HV 300yds in unchang-ing conditions and Travis Archibald’s .6568 agg beat out his father Steve’s .6701 with Everet Smith finishing 3rd with a .7281. Steve Archibald shot HV 300yd small group of 1.219”. Sunday morning greeted the com-petitors with a chilly 32 degrees at sunrise but with lighter winds to con-tend with for the 200yd leg. Henry Pinkney topped the field in HV with a .2680 agg as well as small group with a 0.385”. Everet Smith was second with a .2927 agg followed by Steve Archibald with a .2959. Last up for the Nationals was LV 200 and Steve Archibald placed first with a .3014 agg, followed by Henry Pinkney with

a .3291 and Everet Smith was third with a .3987. Henry Pinkney shot a small group of 0.426” Light Varmint Grand top three placements were Steve Archibald with a .4046, Henry Pinkney with a .4446, and Everet Smith with a .5191. Heavy Varmint Grand top three was Steve Archibald with a .4830, Everet Smith with a .5104, and Lonnie Gordon with a .5485. The 2015 NBRSA Long Range Var-mint Nationals Two Gun Champion is Steve Archibald. Steve’s consis-tent shooting and 25% of the small groups fired on the twenty targets earned him a convincing winning grand aggregate of .4438. Everet Smith finished second in the two gun and Henry Pinkney rounded out the top three. We would like to thank our Long Range Match Director, Bob Hoppe, for serving as our Range Safety Of-ficer for the weekend and running a safe and glitch free match. Also, we thank Kelly Marsh and her son Jesse Marsh for pulling, scoring and posting our targets over the two days of competition. Thanks to Jan Sarras for making custom key chains for the top three two gun places and for keeping the lo-cal shooters honest, thank you to Pete Savage, Everet Smith, and Henry Pinkney for driving from out of state. In the photo from Left: Jan Sarras, Travis Archibald, Lonnie Gordon, Steve (the Champ) Archibald, Mark

2015 NBRSA Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Saturday, September 12, 2015Warrenton, MO

President Thornbury convened the meeting at 10:10am at the First State Community Bank in Warrenton, Mis-souri. Board members in attendance were:

Dennis Thornbury, PresidentAudrey Brown, Board Secretary

Lee Hachigian, for Eastern RegionScott Hunter, Gulf Coast Region

Butch Fjoser, Mid-Continent Region Bud Mundy, Mississippi Valley RegionTerry Meyer, North Central Region

Wayne Campbell, Southeast Region & International Representative

Dan Zaccanti, Northwest RegionTom Libby, Southwest Region

Gene Bukys, Group World Records Committee Chairman

David Halblom, Score World Records Committee Chairman

Mr Neary, Mr Horn and Mr Nielson were unable to attend. Mr Thornbury began the meeting with the Approval of the Agenda for Sept 12, 2015. Motion for acceptance as written by Mr Mundy. Second by Mr Fjoser and unanimously passed. Mr Hunter then made a motion to approve the minutes from September 20, 2014 as written. Second by Mr Zac-canti and unanimously passed. There came a motion from Mr Hunter to allow Lee Hachigian to introduce Eastern Region agenda items on behalf of Eastern Region Director Jack Neary. Second from Mr Zaccanti and unani-mously passed.

Committee Reports: Group World Records Report

Gene Bukys, Committee Chairman Mr Bukys said 2015 has been a slow year with only two group world record submissions. He is content with the process and so is the Board. Mr Fjo-ser mentioned there had been an issue with Long Range world record target submissions which were lost in the mail due to improper packaging. He said there had been no tape affixed to the package ends and this precipitated the loss in transit. Mr Bukys said the way to avoid this issue in the future is to impress on people the importance of proper packaging. He said the best way to package is in a flat cardboard

box that is not as easily damaged dur-ing shipping. Mr Brown has boxes for short range world record target sub-missions for the Board that were do-nated by Mr Karl Hunstiger and these will be distributed.

Score World Records ReportDavid Halblom, Chairman

Mr Halblom echoed Mr Bukys report in that there had only been one score world record submission this year.

US World Team ReportWayne Campbell, International Rep

Mr Campbell said of the top twelve qualifiers for US Team only one de-clined and Mike Conry accepted in his stead. There was concern that ev-eryone would be able to attend due to the cost; Mr Campbell said about $15-16,000 in equipment and cash had been raised by fundraising. He said a question was raised about Phoenix getting two qualifiers when the range holds the 2016 Nationals and has a qualifier in the same year. Despite objections, he feels this is still the fair-est way to manage the qualifiers. Year 2016 qualifier candidates he suggested are the Rattlesnake in New Mexico, Holton in Michigan, East-West Show Me Shootout in St Louis, Hog Roast in Penn-sylvania, Ben Avery for 2016 Nationals and Cactus Classic and Shamrock in Georgia. There is a possible issue with the Shamrock dates, as the Cactus is scheduled March 19-20, 2016. There should be at least one week between an eastern qualifier and the Cactus. Mr Fjoser said if the Whittington Center in New Mexico cannot hold the quali-fier than Rio Grande Benchrest in Albu-querque would do so. Mr Fjoser said he should have an answer pretty quickly and that the third weekend of August is the planned date.

Long-Range World Records & Long Range Rule Book Report

Mr Nielson was not present, so Mr Thornbury presented in his stead. He read from a paper Mr Nielson had writ-ten regarding the Long Range Nation-als. He said there was no rain date for this event. Mr Brown said he was present at the Long Range Nationals and that the issue with not having a rain date was due to a schedule con-flict and continued bad weather in the forecast. No one mentioned request-

ing a refund; the shooters just wanted to leave. The Board decided not to refund any fees as those fees charged were only for the days shot. Mr Libby suggested a substitution in Long Range Representation and Rules to Bill Johnston. Mr Libby motioned for a trial period to appoint Bill John-ston as Long Range Rules Representa-tion to conclude at the 2016 Nationals in Phoenix and to be voted on at that time by the Board. Mr Hunter seconded the motion which passed unanimously.Mr Libby then made motion for Bill Johnston to become the Long Range world record committee chairman for 600 and 1000 yard competition and for Bill Johnston to form a committee of three others from different regions to align with group world record com-mittee procedures. This will be a trial period of one year ending at the 2016 Group Nationals in Phoenix. Second by Mr Meyer. Passed unanimous.

Target Committee ReportTerry Meyer

Mr Meyer has conducted research and testing in the field. He has located a new supplier that will save around $2600/year at present rate of target usage. He said there is no need to make a change now due to existing targets on hand. Mr Mundy suggested the Board table this discussion until Mr Horn returns. Second by Mr Zaccanti and unanimously passed.

Web Development, Branding & Apps Rod Brown (ad hoc)

Mr Brown said the website needs more attention. One issue has to do with overall privacy of member infor-mation. NBRSA policy has been to not provide member information without prior authorization. Berger Bullets is creating a new version of Bughole which can be used by the Match Direc-tors. There are concerns with member privacy information that need to be addressed prior.

Trophy Committee ReportTerry Meyer & Tom Libby (ad hoc)

The trophies at the Score Nation-als have been well received. There is some concern with engraving contrast but this can be addressed next year. Mr Mundy said the Board achieved their goal of curbing the loss in trophy rev-enues. Mr Libby asked how to proceed

Page 29: December, 2015 - NBRSA

December, 2015 Precision Rifleman 29with coin design. Mr Meyer wants Mr Brown to design coins for the 2016 Na-tional events. Mr Brown said he would be willing to do this and will present designs to Mr Meyer for his approval. Mr Meyer reviewed NBRSA historical attendance at National Events and re-viewed attendance numbers against trophy fees charged. Mr Meyer said score shooters want to continue for next year the format for Score Nation-als which separates Long Range and Short Range formats into two score national events.

Financial Report – Scott Hunter Mr Hunter presented the 2015 Finan-cials Report for John Horn in his ab-sence. He said the organization has not been audited for some time. He suggested at some point the Board may consider having another audit scheduled. He also recommended hav-ing an itemized list of targets. Overall the financial picture is better than the same time in 2014. Mr Hunter motioned to accept the financial report as presented; second by Mr Fjoser and passed unanimously.

Business Manager ReportAudrey Brown

Mrs Brown reviewed membership fig-ures and compared these over the last 5 years. Membership is holding steady but is not growing. Renewal methods have shifted towards online renewals and reinstatements have increased from members who were inactive for a while. She reviewed the magazine cost breakdown as well as advertising rev-enues and shipping expenses. She con-cluded with magazine online statisti-cal trends since 2012.

Unfinished Business 1. The Board also asked to have a cell phone app which reveals current NBRSA individual membership status. Mrs Brown said she will ask Mr Brown, NBRSA’s technical advisor about this. Mr Brown said this can be done best as a member number look up function. Mr Libby displayed his membership number which he stored on his cell phone as an option to make it easier for members who forget to bring their membership cards to matches.

2. Clarify stock dimensions. From the

2014 Board Minutes: Mr Nielson and Mr Libby have a plan in place to be used at the 2015 Group Nationals at Referee’s discretion. Mr Mundy will be responsible for getting one made by commencement of WBC13. The stock checking device will be used at the discretion of the Match Director at the 2015 Group Nationals.

3. Mr Neary would like a section on the NBRSA website for mentoring vol-unteers at various ranges. Mrs Brown will consult the Technical Advisor, Mr Brown regarding this. Mr Brown said there are some things he can do to update the website and make it more accessible to readers to view and access it. It was suggested to add something to the renewal process such as “check here if you want to be a mentor.”

4. The 2-year trial period for the Hunt-er Nationals case capacity review has concluded. The Board shall consider whether to make permanent the re-moval of case capacity and caliber re-striction for hunter benchrest. Mr Meyer said at the Short Range Score Nationals in Webster City, the shooters said they wanted this to be-come permanent. Mr Meyer made the motion to accept to make permanent the removal of case capacity and cali-ber restriction for hunter benchrest. Second by Mr Zaccanti and unanimous-ly passed.

New BusinessEastern Region:1. The distance between the record box and the sighter box for the 200 yard group target is 1½”. Please see the attached target that has the com-petitor number that is printed in bold and is .75 inch high. This is a very good target example compared to many others we have seen. (Jack Neary)See Item 2.

2. Suggested Wording for Rule Book Revision:"For a national group competition, the competitor number shall be clearly legible in mirage conditions at the farthest distance. The competitor number shall be 1” tall in bold font or written with a wide marker to aide vis-ibility.” (Jeff Gaidos) After discussion of items 1 and 2, Mr Libby made a motion that the Match

Directors make the competitor num-bers on targets as large as possible. Second Mr Meyer. Motion passed unan-imously.

3. A recommendation that the cour-tesy rule regarding idle chat when you finish shooting till the finish of the7 minutes MUST be enforced. When you happen to have a couple of talkers side by side it is a real distraction. The rule is there for a purpose. (Dave Holmes) The Board determined the rules are sufficient at this time.

Gulf Coast Region: 1. The following to be added to the end of 10, page 20:“That at the group nationals, the indi-vidual who accepts the job of procur-ing and setting flags for a flag rotation (sponsor) will have control over what type and how the flags are set for that rotation. Any additions or adjustments to that rotation may only be done with the permission of the flag sponsor for that rotation. If that individual is un-able to fulfill their duties as flag ro-tation sponsor, another sponsor will be approved by the match director. Appeals to the flag set for a given ro-tation, not resolved with the sponsor, will be made to the referees for the first days' competition, with a major-ity vote of said referees being needed to change the flag set in question.” (Mike Conry) Mr Hunter made a motion to accept item #1 as written effective Jan 1, 2016. Mr Fjoser seconded and moion passed unanimously.

2. Delete ¼” deflection sentence from page 9(j)I and ii. (Mike Bryant) Mr Hunter made a motion to accept as written. Second by Mr Libby. Those in favor were Mr Hunter, Mr Campbell and Mr Libby. Those against were Mr Fjoser, Mr Mundy, Mr Zaccanti & Mr Meyer. Motion fails.

3. Add “in case of emergency, please notify (name) & (phone number)” to each Shooter Registration Form sub-mitted for matches. (Scott Hunter) Mr Hunter made motion to accept item #3 as written. Mr Libby second. Passed unanimously.

4. Mr Hunter added another item at the meeting. He stated our corporate status revolves around tax exemption

Page 30: December, 2015 - NBRSA

30 Precision Rifleman

status and liability. He is concerned with Board decisions “Piercing the cor-porate veil”. He said it is imperative that the Board adhere to their char-ter and by-laws. He asked the Board to encourage Mr Thornbury to contact our legal council to ensure that our by-laws are complied with to satisfac-tion. Currently, Mississippi Valley and Southeast Regions do not have alter-nates. Mr Thornbury said these regions will need to select alternates for next years’ election.Mid-Continent Region: None submitted.

Mississippi Valley Region:1. Discuss the trophy cabinets that are being constructed to display our retired group trophies at Bench Rest Rifle Club of St Louis and decide how they are to be cleaned and then dis-played. (Bud Mundy) Mr Mundy said Bench Rest Rifle Club of St Louis is finishing construction on display cases for NBRSA retired group traveling trophies. He suggested the Board discuss whether to refurbish these. Mr Mundy said he will present price quotes for refurbishing the tro-phies from local companies to next years’ Board meeting. Mr Fjoser said he is opposed to these modifications as he appreciates the aged look (pa-tina) of these trophies.

2. Mr Mundy mentioned Walt Berger’s traveling plaque that he received at 2014 Holton Nationals, the large metal plate on top was bowed upon arrival in Phoenix. Mr Holland (NW Region Alter-nate and trophy plaque designer) said the wood is going to move especially after it has been set. He said that is the nature of wood. The Board recessed for lunch at 1:30pm and reconvened at 2:57pm.

North Central Region: Mr Meyer introduced Mr Brown, North Central Alternate Director to the Board with an item to develop another rev-enue stream for NBRSA. Mr Brown sug-gested establishing an NBRSA verified/validated/sanctioned group which can be turned over as something manufac-turers could benefit from and sponsor. Core to this “branding” success would be developing specifications for the branding label for NBRSA including how many shots, distance and equipment.

Validating would be conducted by par-ticular NBRSA members qualified to do so and a sanctioned group would be shot at a sanctioned match. The core is not to change any of our existing rules of competition. It is an avenue for out-of-class shooters to have their groups mea-sured in a marketable way. The object is that when someone thinks group, they think NBRSA. Mr Brown has a team of members who have volunteered to cre-ate this program and if the Board is will-ing, this can be rolled out in 2016. This promotion would be used for all manu-facturers who use group size as a per-formance standard or a seal of approval. Mr Meyer said the upside is minimal cost to NBRSA and could add profit to the organization. The Board authorized Mr Brown to proceed with his plans to be presented at the 2016 Group Nationals in Phoenix.

1. Revisit match Memorandum of Agreement distribution to make it eas-ier for Regional Directors and Match Directors. (Terry Meyer)Withdrawn by Mr Meyer.

2. Review Trophy Awards for all Na-tional events. Clarify which place-ments should receive recognition and identify what that recognition should be. (Terry Meyer) See item 3A.

3A. Review trophy (national) fees for score shooters. The score national payments are excessive. (Terry Meyer) Mr Fjoser made a motion that the short range score nationals national fee be changed to $20 all inclusive; long range score nationals shall be also $20 all inclusive. If these two national score events are combined into one, than $40 will be the national fee. Mr Libby second. Unanimously approved.

3B. Review trophy (national) fees and en-sure at least a breakeven status. (Terry Meyer) This item was reviewed in the Trophy committee earlier in the meeting. See page 28.

4. Two Gun Short-Range 100-200 Yard Score Nationals acrylic trophy to be awarded for 2015 score nationals event onward as a keeper trophy. (Terry Meyer) Mr Meyer made a motion to approve as written. Second by Mr Libby and unani-mously approved.

5. Protest fees to be reviewed by the Board. (Terry Meyer) The Board stipulated that the match voucher and registered match agree-ments for NBRSA, the language shall be added to specify protest fees are to be forwarded to NBRSA along with the match fees. The Business Manager shall also publish in the magazine a notice to all members and match di-rectors pertaining to this issue.

Northwest Region: 1. Clarify Trophy Fees in rule book and match registration forms. (Dan Zac-canti) Mr Hunter will check with the printer and make sure the changes made to Trophy (National) Fees are included in the next rule book revision.

2. Before the Regional Director sub-mits the targets to the Group Mea-suring Committee they make sure it’s within .009” of the record, which is good; but when the committee Chair measures them and they are larger than .015” they send them back to the shooter. Shouldn’t these two measure-ments be switched around? (Dan Zac-canti) Mr Zaccanti will contact Gene Bukys regarding this.

Southeast Region: None submitted.

Southwest Region: 1. Pertaining to score rules item 7b mod-ify first sentence to read, “Full bench and relay rotation shall be used at all National Match events.” (Keith Myers)No motion presented.

2. Consider adjusting dates and loca-tions for WBC qualifiers. (Tom Libby)Item withdrawn.

2015 General Membership Meeting Minutes

Mr Thornbury opened meeting at 1:30pm at Bench Rest Rifle Club of St Louis firing line. He read all agenda items to the membership. Mr Garcia stated his request that a range of this size have on-hand a de-fibrillator in case of emergency. The membership responded the range has one in the clubhouse. Mr Cambell spoke about the WBC qualifiers: Cactus, the Nationals in Phoenix Oct 10-15, East-West in Bench Rest Rifle Club of St Louis in June and Hog Roast in Fairchance the first week-end in May. He said he should know in one month’s time whether the last qualifier will be the Rattlesnake at Ra-ton or at Rio Grande in Albuquerque. Mr Thornbury then disclosed the up-coming national events for all disci-plines. Mr Thornbury said the Board is work-ing on items to bring more visibility to the NBRSA. He asked for questions from the membership. Mr Thornbury then said he hopes everyone thanks the Bench Rest Rifle Club of St Louis for their hard work at this back-to-back Group National & World Ben-chrest event. Mr Reneau said he’s selling raffle tick-ets for the Hall Of Fame. The prize is a donated Leupold scope. The raffle will be conducted Thursday at the fir-ing line. Mr Pieper thanked everyone for their support. He said he is still recruiting

volunteers for the WBC event if those who are staying would like to do so to contact him. He reiterated that the retired NBR-SA traveling trophies are in St Louis and the display cases will be finished shortly. He said he feels honored and thankful to have the shooters and sup-port to keep the history of benchrest alive and perhaps create more inter-est. He received a round of applause from the members in appreciation of his hard work. Mr Campbell said 20 countries will be here for WBC. He thanked everyone for their support, both commercial and individual. He introduced the WBC Team members to which the mem-bers applauded. Two donations were raffled off with the proceeds going to the WBC USA teams. A box of flags do-nated from David Halblom. Ron Sewell purchased these. Edgewood bags from Jack Snyder were raffled; 3 gator bags and 3 USA Team bags for a total of 6.Chet Whitebread made motion to ad-journ at 2pm. Tim Oltersdorf second and unanimously approved.

Board of Directors Meeting The Board reconvened at the range at 3:32pm following the General Membership Meeting. Present was Mr Thornbury, Mrs Brown, Mr Zaccanti, Mr Libby, Mr Meyer, Mr Hunter, Mr Camp-bell, Mr Mundy, & Mr Hachigian.

NBRSA Facebook Page Ms Brown inquired about NBRSA’s facebook presence and how to pro-ceed. The Board said they would like member Chris Harris to continue for another year to work on this project.

Long Range Score Programs Mr Zaccanti will ask member Bill Bon-ser to see if Long Range clubs want to use his scoring program.

Trophy Committee The Board decided to disband the Trophy Committee. Mr Brown will co-ordinate with Mr Meyer regarding de-signs for the 2016 Group, SR Score & LR Score Nationals. The Board also de-cided to keep the awards the same for the next few years.

Trophy Bids Mr Thornbury said a former vendor was disappointed at not being includ-ed in the quoting process for trophies.

Mr Meyer and Mr Libby said the tro-phies were sent out for bid but the vendor in question was not considered due to a requirement for advance pay-ment. The Board decided not to rebid the trophies for a few years.

GC Agenda Item #1 Mr Hunter sought clarification by the Board on Mr Conry’s agenda item. Mr Thornbury said that the agenda item states the person needs to ask to set the flags; there is no prohibition on setting additional flags.

Rules & By-Laws Mr Thornbury said there is concern about rules enforcement. He encour-aged the Board to review the current rules and determine whether some should be removed, edited or kept. Mr Thornbury wants this completed and ready for presentation at the next Board meeting. Mr Thornbury read some notes pre-sented by member Creach suggesting ways to improve benchrest atten-dance.1. NBRSA design a high-quality pam-phlet to provide to match attendees and clubs.2. Consider a presence at the Shot Show. Perhaps a booth can be shared.3. Provide equipment for new shooters to try before they buy. Mr Hunter received a call from a local club that has attendees who wish to try benchrest. He suggests a focused effort on clubs instead of retail gun sales outlets.

Safety Tape Mr Meyer said some members said the safety tape is redundant. The Board feels it is okay at this time.

Long Range Committee Mr Bill Johnston was selected as Chairman of the LR World Records Committee.

At 4:30pm Mr Mundy made a motion to adjourn which was seconded by Mr Hunter with unanimous approval. Respectfully Submitted, Audrey Brown, Board Secretary *NBRSA Financial Statements ending December 31, 2015 will be published in the March, 2016 issue.

Kane Fish & Game Club's Pennsylvania State

Championship There were 58 shooters compet-ing at one of the NBRSA Eastern Region’s favorite group matches: the PA State Championship (and pie eating contest) at Kane Fish and Game Club. While every-one looked forward to this year’s match at Kane, all arrived with heavy hearts, as we all were miss-ing Dick Lockwood, the patriarch of our BR group matches at Kane, who passed away earlier this year. Additionally, our Eastern Region shooters also mourned the recent loss of our dear friends, Clay-ton Martin and Alex Calder from Canada, as well last year’s loss of Bob Kenderdine. Please keep Dick, (and his wife, Judy) Clayton, Alex and Bob in your daily prayers. On to our match… Saturday morning we shot the LV100. Still on a tear from his great shooting at the Super Shoot, Mark Engle put on a class in easily handling the switching conditions with a very nice .1834” agg. Craig Rowe finished second, I was third, new shooter Tom Shumar finished fourth (great shooting, Tom!) and Pat Metcalf did very well finishing in fifth. I would like to recognize new Junior shooter, Devin Burdick, with his very nice .168” group he shot on the fifth match in very windy conditions, which was one the best groups during that match. Well done, Devin! I’m sure we’ll being hearing much more from Devin great shooting in the years to come. After a great lunch and…LOTS OF PIE for dessert, we were met with ripening winds for the start of the of the HV100. New shooter, Tom Shumar was just warming-up, as he was not satisfied with his fourth place finsh in the LV100 and decided he would win the HV100 with a .2132” in some tough conditions. I finished second.

“Best Cuts” sponsored shooter, Don Rossette, finished third. Al Auman finish fourth. Mr. Consistent, Milt Craven finished fifth. Each of the shooter’s were treat-ed to a fine spaghetti dinner with all the fix’ins, put on by the club Saturday evening. Once again, the annual Saturday night party on the porch kicked-off without a dry eye. Howy Levy, sadly decided he was in the mood to sing to us with his ren-dition of Tony Bennet’s “From Rags to Riches”. Most shooters poled on the porch would have much preferred Howy to drag his fingernails across a chalk board instead of hearing him sing. This feedback was further testified by every dog in the out-lying Kane township area howling in pain from little Howy’s singing. Ouch. None the less, everyone on the porch, with favorite beverage in-hand, recanted our stories of all the great times we each enjoyed at the many previous Kane match-es with each of our friends! On to the 200yd stage on Sunday morning. Sunday morning greeted us with some mild winds to start the day and then become much more difficult with the start of the third match. Don Rossette, one of the Easter Region’s best shoot-ers, continued his winning ways in shooting an extremely nice .1879” agg in some very challenging con-ditions for first place. All around great guy and skilled bullet-maker Gary Conaway, took second. Bill McIntyre showed his vast skills with a third place finish. Dave Bruno woke up to shoot a very good agg and finished fourth. Paul Beaver showed his abilities to handle some tough winds with a fine fifth finish. Fan favorite, Hal Drake took first place in handling some very tough wind conditions with a .2493” agg Ron Burdick also handled the con-ditions well with his second place finish. I was third. Kent Harshman came alive in fourth and “Coach”

Mike Gamble finished in fifth. Con-grats to our new shooters and all the winners! A very special thanks to Match Director, Steve Timpano, the Oakes family and the entire kitchen staff for all the great food and pie! Also to the outstanding target crew, who worked so hard all weekend.A Super big thanks to Range Master, Roger Gausman, for keeping all of us safe and on-point, as well as the entire membership of the Kane Fish and Game Club for their tireless efforts in making all of us feel so welcome each year! It’s no secret why all BR shooter’s love coming to Kane each year! Bring a friend to Kane next year!

The Night Before ChristmasBenchrest Edition

by Tommy Gunn

‘Twas the night before Christ-mas when all through the range, not a shooter was stirring, which seemed kinda strange. The rifles were placed in their cradles with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The shooters were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of trophies danced in their heads. My friend in his trailer and I in my tent,we called out to Dominos; a pizza was sent. When out on the range there arose such a racket, I sprang from my tent and threw on my jacket. Away to the line I flew like a fool, rounded the benches and tripped on a stool. When what to my bloodshot eyes did appear, but dinky old sleigh and eight mangy reindeer . A pilot so pudgy with a slight ner-vous tick, I knew in a moment it had to be Nick. Those nasty old deer looked mighty neglected, with a faraway gaze and a gait so decrepit. Claus showed all signs of a mental disorder. He snarled and belched and then barked out this order:

“Now, Sinclair! Now, Kelbly! Now, Krieger and Shilen! On, Berger! On, Farley! On, Dewey, McMillan!”“Now jump up, fleet herd, above where they load! To the top of the barn, where their gun gear is stowed!”

And just like the Cactus, where wild winds blow, you look at the timer--10 seconds to go! To the top of the barn the rein-deer they flew. Old Santa, his sleigh, his bag and his zoo. And then in a moment, Nick whipped out a flask and chugged the whole bottle, no questions to ask.

He staggered ahead and grabbed Shilen’s hoof, tripped over the sleigh and fell through the roof. He fell a long way, it was the worst case. The bore shine flew up and all over his face. His deer were all spooked and then started to bray. They snort-ed and stomped, as the roof gave away! Next to the Claus, lay a pile of gear. And scattered around, were all the reindeer. His eyes were incensed. He was mad at the crash! His cheeks, smeared with solvent, had devel-oped a rash. His lips were all chapped, his mouth wore a grimace. He reached in the sleigh and pulled out a Guinness. That lightened his mood, as he let out his belly. Dark beer was his diet, that thing was all jelly! At the day’s targets, he gave a long stare. One hole from a bench, who really would care? “Hey dude”, I piped up, as I saw him confused, “it’s the journey we take, that keeps us enthused.” “You load up your magic and watch all the flags; and mess with your buddies and fluff up your bags.” “At the end of the day, you’ve shot your best score, and some-times you smile or can take it no more!” “It’s the best I can do, that’s all I can say. Yes, we’re all crazy; we all are type A.” Just then old Krieger, Sinclair and Berger, ran to the table with coffee and sugar. Knocked over the pot; the sugar they craved. The rest of them fol-lowed; the place was not saved. The tables were leveled, our stuff was all floored. Santa was trampled, and almost got gored. I dusted him off, and gave him a chair. Rolled him in tape to re-move the deer hair. He was not amused, he said not,

“Good Gravy.” Instead I heard swearing, he must have been Navy. “There’s a bolt up my butt, a jag in my ear.” Do you really now think, I’ll leave any gear?” He rose from his chair, and as-sembled the flight. They formed their formation to egress that night. The last thing he grabbed, his bag full of stuff, he fought to hoist it. It seemed kind of tough. He gave us a snarl, on his take off roll. His rather brief visit had taken its toll. My buddy was quiet, he smirked like a cat. I asked him quite blunt-ly, “Dude, where were you at?” “I lost track of you man, in all the commotion.” He replied quite succinctly, “It looked like slow motion.” “While you dealt with Claus, I grabbed his white bag. Took out the loot and filled it with slag.” “Now wipe off that tear, and get off your duff. Let’s clean up this place, and give ‘em new stuff.” “Here are new actions, a Marsh and a BAT. A Panda and Farley, and some are in matte!” Enjoying the moment, we sure had the knack. But all the sudden, we were under attack! Bombed from above, the roof be-gan shaking. Scared for our lives, our knees started quaking! We ran to the door, and looked out in shock. Santa was back and he dropped a big rock! He leveled the sleigh, from its bomb run dive. Banked in a circle and yelled out some jive. “You head case dimwits, must be half-plastered. You got in my bag, I’m telling the pastor!” I whipped out my Glock in a cali-ber forty, and soon put an end to his destructive sortie. I assumed the position, and led deer number one. Then emptied a mag, from my Austrian handgun. He jinked and he rolled, he pushed that big sleigh. He de-

Page 35: December, 2015 - NBRSA

December, 2015 Precision Rifleman 35ployed his chaff, and flares sent away. The flares gave us light, all over the place. The lead deer was slumped, we saved our air space! The Santa did curse, at his abort-ed mission. His altitude low, his dismal condition. He hit a release, built into the harness. Then fell from the sky, a fresh reindeer carcass! The sleigh limped off, into dark sky. We gutted that deer, and let out a sigh. The sun soon awoke, we gave the all clear. We shot a great match, and admired our new gear. And after it ended, we broke out the beer. Thanked our fine spon-sors and grilled up some deer. The meal was great, the week-end no bore. Certainly one, to make Benchrest lore. So forget not this night, when you feel like you’re dead. Keep your eyes open, for a camouflaged sled!

June 27, 2015 The weather forecast was for 110F and 10-20mph wind switching from northwest to southwest but when it was all said and done, it only reached 108F. The wind was pres-ent and we were glad for it since it cooled us off a little. Glenn kept his cool winning both the 100 and 200 yard matches with Dick and Paul both one point behind him at both yardages. Rick DeGroat, Match Director

Tri Cities Metallic Silhouette AssnWA State Hunter Championship

July 25, 2015 Switching wind with gusts over 25 miles per hour was the story in the desert part of the evergreen state for our last match of the year. Ev-eryone got caught at least once with a hole out in the red when the wind would switch just as the trig-ger was squeezed. Glenn was the only one that kept from having it happen at 100 yards and managed to get through the match only drop-ping 1 point. Scores at 200 yards gave us all a reason to drink. It was one of those days that you work real hard and still get a poor score. I want to thank everyone that shot with us this year and hope to see you all back again in 2016.
