Dear Friends, This month I want to share with you a plan that I have thought about and prayed about for a long time. The purpose of this plan is to help our friends focus their prayer support. We feel that some of you would like to concentrate your intercessions on a particular individual or mission post. So in this newsletter, we are going to list the posts where our graduates are working and the names of the workers at each post. Our suggestion is that you can pick a post, or individual worker for your particular missionary concern. All of the workers are young. They are working in difficult situations. But each of them is doing an outstanding job according to the particular call and gifts that the Lord has given. I know from my own experience that prayer support is terribly important. Missionaries can tell very definitely when the prayer support slackens or when it is intensified. Your prayers for these young people can be a tremendous encouragement for them as they work on the front lines. Suggested procedure is as follows: 1. Read the descriptions in this letter. 2. Prayerfully select your intercession target. 3. Write to me letting me know your choice. I can supply you additional information on the missionary you have chosen. 4. Make contact with your missionary by letter. (Since many of them don't know English, you can let us serve as translators). 5. Pray regularly and intensively. I believe that this procedure will not only increase our effectiveness as prayer partners, but will also give each of you a more intimate sense of closeness to those who are on the front lines. We all appreciate everyone of you and the support you have given our mission over the years. I look forward with anticipation to this new and more intimate approach. I hope that you will find it a joy. In Jesus' Love Fr. Ed Stube — 1 — JANUARY 1979

Dear Friends, This month I want to share with you a plan that I

have thought about and prayed about for a long time.

Suggested procedure is as follows:

1. Read the descriptions in this letter. 2. Prayerfully select your intercession target. 3. Write to me letting me know your choice. I can

supply you additional information on the missionary you have chosen.

Ed Stube

OFFICE MANAGER: Bernhard Bacas

Ben handles most of the office work. He writes letters, gets necessary permits from the government, publishes our monthly magazines and runs the mimeograph. He is a widower and lives at LBTC with his little boy. Timothy.

PASTORS IN VILLAGES ROUND ABOUT LAWANG: Nongkojajar: Stefanus Gunawan Ronggo: Daniel Yohadi and Hanna Gebuk: Mr. Yasin and family Rawan and family

Stefanus Gunawan was a member of the first Holy Way team.

When we moved down to Lawang from Nongkojajar in 1971, we left him behind to pastor our congregations in the villages round about there. Stefanus is a faithful and loving servant of the Lord and a very effective evangelist. He plans to get married some time later this year.

Daniel and Hanna graduated from the LBTC in January of 1977, and have been pastoring the congregation in Ronggo. He has had an effective healing ministry and has evangelized several new nearby villages. Daniel and Hanna have a one year old son.

Mr. Yasin is an elementary school teacher in Gebuk, a little village about four kilometers up the hill from our Training Center. Over the years he has spent his vacations at the LBTC. He has served faithfully and well as an elder in the congregation in Gebuk since 1972. He has a wife and two children.

Rawan is from the city of Surabaya. He was trained for ministry through our ministry in that city and through frequent visits to the Lawang Bible Training Center. He moved his family to Gehuk two years ago to help pastor the work there.

IrianIrianIrian We have two posts on Irian: one, a training center at Abepura in the north-eastern corner of Irian, and the other in Sorong, in the northwestern corner of the island.

ABEPURA TRAINING CENTER: Muliawan and family, Pilipus Sukamto

Muliawan and his wife are both from Java, but have lived in Irian for many years. When our first team went there in 1972, they opened their home for prayer meetings and Bible study. In time this developed into a training center for training young people from the cities and from the tribes in the interior to evangelize amongst the tribes and open new works.

Pilipus Sukamto is from Magetan, a small town in East Java, where we had a training center for a few years. Pilipus was there first as a student, and then briefly as head of the training center, before going to Irian. He is doing a remarkable job of evangelism, starting prayer fellowships, planting churches, and training people of all kinds of backgrounds for ministry all over Irian.

SORONG: Dolfi and Juliani Salossa

Dolfi is a native of Irian. His wife, Juli, is from Surabaya, the principal city of East Java. Juli is a graduate of LBTC, and Dolfi studied there for a while. They are an unlikely and beautiful couple. They are bringing new life and renewal among the Protestants in his native Sorong area in the northwestern corner of Irian.

They are also reaching out to primitive tribes in the area.

East Borneo EAST BORNEO: Petrus Priyanto and Ester

Pri and Ester were among the first students at LBTC. After graduation, they served on the staff at LBTC until they left for Borneo in 1976. They live in Muara Mujan, a little Village way in the interior. They assist the pastor of the local church, to which most of the villagers belong. Priyanto also goes up river with the pastor to evangelize primitive tribes. Pri and Ester have a one year old son.

Timor & Rote’ TIMOR AND ROTE: Hosea Kusno

Kusno is from Nongkojajar. He attended our training center in Magetan for a year and then transferred to the LBTC. For a couple of years he had an effective ministry to prayer groups in the city of Surabaya. At the time of the war in East Timor, he went there with a team of three to evangelize on both parts of the island. Since then he has been back to Timor several times ministering effectively in prayer groups, evangelistic associations and churches. In the last year he has turned his attention to the island of Rote, off the western end of Timor.

At present Kusno is being assisted in his ministry on Rote by a team of three students from LBTC: Samuel Manurung, Oktavianus, and Genelien Macpal (See December newsletter).

Celebes UJUNG PANDANG, SOTHERN CELEBES: Hery Nababan

Hery comes from a small town in Northern Sumatra. He was our youngest student at LBTC. He quickly developed ability as a Bible teacher. For a while he was ministering mostly to young people and university students in Malang. Since his graduation from LBTC in January of 1977, he has been working in the city of Ujung Pandang. He assists in a church there, does a lot of teaching, and leads occasional evangelistic teams in ministry in Tana Toraja, in the interior of the island.

MANADO, NORTHERN CELEBES A few years ago some of the members of Protestant churches in Northern Celebes began to form evangelistic associations. A team from Lawang Bible Training Center introduced them to the work of the Holy Spirit, and their effectiveness increased and spread. A year ago two of these large evangelistic associations were brought together and organized as a branch of the Holy Way, with leadership from people of the area.

These people want very much to have a

Training Center in Manado along the lines of the LBTC.

They are looking to us to provide teachers and staff for the training center. So far we have sent teams on a short term basis, but we are praying for the Lord's guidance to establish a more permanent center there.

Since our seminar in Manado last July, Agoes (an LBTC student) and Yakub (a young man from Surabaya) have been ministering there. In November Herry Stube joined them. The Manado Bible Training Center is operating on a part time basis, and they are doing much teaching and ministry in prayer groups.

This work is just in the formative stage and needs much prayer.

SALATIGA, CENTRAL JAVA: Simon Kakundimangeng.

Simon is a recent graduate of LBTC. He comes from Sangihe-Talaud, a group of small islands up toward the Philippines. He is assisting in a rapidly growing church in Central Java. He will have responsibility for several new branch churches in villages near Salatiga.

BOAT MlNISTRY Our Gospel ship "Immanuel" has recently arrived in Irian after evangelizing several is-lands along the way. The team of the boat consists of:

Timotius Rohim and family Alfonso and family Paul Jumeno Benjamin Roroe Billy Obed Naulus Ataupah.

Timotius, Alfonso, and Obed built the ship themselves, assisted in the later stages by Paul Jumeno and Naulus Ataupah.

SANGIHE-TALAUD These little islands off the northern coast of Celebes have experienced quite a bit of re-newal in the last few years. We have sent sev-eral teams there, and quite a few of their young people have come to LBTC. They hope in time to have a training program of their own there, but opposition is still too severe. At pre-sent two of our graduates, both originally from that area, have returned and are working there. They are Klara Tempomone and Paula Tasusane.

There are two kinds of missionaries: those who stand in the front lines of the battle, and those who pray for them at home. Of the two, the intercessors at home are probably the more important and have the more difficult job. I know from my own experience on the field that, when

prayer support is strong, miracles happen with seemingly very little effort on the part of the workers in the field. 'When the prayer support weakens, futility sets in.

This is why I hope many of our friends and will pick individual workers or posts, and give them all the prayer support you at can.

Intercessory prayer needs to be as specific as possible, but always with long range objectives in mind. The Next month, I hope to give some suggestions for intercession work.
