  • Understanding “Society”DBH 4 - Social Science

    Unit 1: Primus Circumdedisti Me

  • This movie is about society…

It reflects very well our attitude as modern and western society towards education.

  • How is this possible in a classroom?

  • How is this possible in every single subject?

  • Every single human being is completely different and unique; society is full of different and unique beings.

  • We are going to talk about people who “carpe diem”ed; who take advantage of history to help others…

  • Different societies and different mentalities

  • My favorite coming right away…

  • Querido Sr. Tolosa,

  • Framing set! Let’s continue…

  • When we refer to the term “society”, what are we exactly referring to?

  • What do I think “society” is?

  • If we google the word “society” and we click on images…

  • What happens in I type “sociedad”?

  • And if I type “gizartea”?

  • And if I type “société”?

  • And society in German? “Gesellschaft”?

  • Except for two of the images, the majority share a common trace. Which is that common, shared issue?

  • PEOPLE

  • Why “society” (“people”) are such a relevant element in History?

  • • Society’s organization?

    • How are we organized as a group?

    • Who is leading? Who is following?

    • Society’s goals?

    • Which are our goals as a group?

    • Do we have any?

    • Society’s control? Order?

    • Who is commanding? Who sets? Who obeys?

  • Which is our society’s organization?

  • Did you know that your life was organized because of the establishment of the 1978’s Spanish Constitution?

  • Where does your power rest in this specific organization?

  • But is there any other superior term that supervised this voting thing?

  • Demos

    • The ordinary citizens of an ancient Greek city-state.

  • Why are we referring today to the term “vote”, “elections”, “democracy”?

  • “Culturilla”

    President-elect POTUS

  • First lady-to-be FLOTUS

    “Culturilla”

  • Why are we so worried?

  • Where is this situation leading us?

  • Society versus government

    A conflict versus the authority

  • Who was this man?

What type of conflict did he have against the authority?

  • These three gentlemen had two issues in common. Which ones?

  • Martin Luther King Jr. (born Michael King); (top right) Abraham Lincoln (16th President); (bottom right) John F. Kennedy (35th President)

  • Lyndon B. Johnson

  • But, what is all this conflict about????????

  • The possibility to vote if you want to do so without being tested for gaining that right. In other words, FREE ACCESS TO VOTE FOR ALL!

LBJ & the 1965 Voting Right Act

  • Do we have any problems?

  • Do we need any leader?

  • Do we have such good leaders to follow?

  • Would I follow any leader?

  • What would I do then? I would look close…

  • And now, finally, yes, let’s go to the movies…
