The Davis All-Stars is currently trying to build our social media networks. While we certainly appreciate the many likes, comments and shares, we are aware of the social media dangers that exist for all children and adults.

We have prepared the following rules and information for you and your family in hopes of encouraging a dialogue that might result in your continued safety and peace of mind. Please INITIAL each paragraph below to show that you've read and understand these rules. Thank you.

DAVIS ALL-STARS ACCOUNTS We use social media like facebook, twitter, instagram and others to share our sport with the world. Some of our communications are internal, for team planning and positive words of encouragements, etc. Some of our posts are promotional in nature, designed for the public.

ATHLETE ACCOUNTS Many of our athletes - with their parents' permission - maintain their own social media pages. We appreciatethat they stay in touch with one other, share ideas, andencourage each other. At the same time, we stronglydiscourage any form of bullying, putting down, criticizing, foul language, or sharing inappropriateimages. Not only is this dangerous, but it can result inremoval from your team.

PARENT ACCOUNTS It's fun to use social media responsibly. We can be better role models by limiting the time on our phones, paying attention to the real people around us, and by posting respectful content. In that same regard, our athletes parents are prohibited from making disparaging comments about cheer coaches, cheer athletes, cheer programs, event producers, or the results of an event. Posts related to the gym (and cheer in general) need to be above-board.

SAFETY AND PEACE OF MIND Experts tell us that there are real down-sides to the overuse of social media and other online resources. Youth, teens and adults can experience anxiety, envy, depression, isolation, and even thoughts of self-harm and suicide. We recommend that families create their own pledge for internet use. We encourage parents to have direct access to their childrens' email, social media and website history, and to review this content regularly. And we encourage families and friends to spend time together "offline," to talk face-to-face with each other, listen with intent, play together and develop loving, meaningful relationships. That's something we can all LIKE and SHARE!
