PPS Waste Audit

As part of Science, Year 6 and 2S students last Friday conducted a waste audit of general school rubbish. The children armed with gloves sorted the rubbish into various groups, including rubbish that can be recycled. The audit revealed some interesting information about the rubbish content at PPS. This audit will help to inform more sustainable waste practices at PPS. Our school community is committed to living more sustainably and recycling more generally. Thank you to the Year 6 teachers, Mr Dormer and Mr Sillato for this initiative.

2018 City Country Alliance (CCA) Student Leadership Summit Over the past 3 days our newly selected 2019 Student Leadership group attended the CCA Student Leadership Summit at the Collaroy Centre. The summit included 140 students from 30 NSW public schools schools, including rural schools. This initiative aims to deepen student’s intercultural understandings and encourage interaction with students from diverse city and rural communities. The children participated in a range of leadership workshops, visited schools in south western Sydney and listened to indigenous presenters. Our NSW Education Minister, the Hon. Rob Stokes also spoke to the students about leadership, diversity and intercultural understanding. Importantly, the children all made new friends and met people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and communities. I’d like to thank Mrs Herbert and Mrs Venter for their organisation of this opportunity and Mrs Hiley and Miss Sharp for taking such good care of the students while on this camp. Colour Fun Run Last week PPS held its inaugural P&C Colour Fun Run at Bannockburn Oval. All students K-6 participated in the Colour Fun Run which raised much needed funds for our farmers. Despite the damp weather the fun run was a huge success. The children negotiated a range of obstacles as they were squirted with coloured powder as part of the run. A great time was had by all students, with some of our teachers also running the course. A big thank you to all our parent volunteers and a special thank you to Mrs Kate Walther for coordinating this event. I’d like to also thank Mrs Herbert for her assistance with coordinating the fun run.

PPS Amazing Brain Race Recently Mrs Lee-Joe ran our ‘2018 Amazing Brain Race’ in which many students competed. Students entered teams into this competition and raced around the school solving problems as part of their group. There was a junior and senior competition and once teams had all the answers they raced to Mrs Herbert’s office to have their solutions validated. Congratulations to all the teams that participated. I’d like to thank Mrs Le-Joe for coordinating this exciting and challenging event.

PPS Disco The Friday before last our P&C held our yearly school disco. We had separate K-2 and 3-6 discos and all children who attended had a fantastic time. It was great to see children dressed up in costumes based on our ‘farmer’ disco theme. The children danced, bopped and sang excitedly and all had a great time. We had many parents volunteers to help out, which is greatly appreciated. Thank you also to Tisa Van Den Heuvel for all her organisation.

Art Show PPS held its Art Show over two nights recently. All students K-6 displayed artworks at the Art Show. The quality of the artwork on display was truly amazing. We have extremely talented and creative students at PPS. Equally, our teachers are very creative and work hard to get the best out of their students. A resident local artist, Marilyn Rabinowitz opened our Art Show and was impressed with the creativity of our students and teachers. I’d like to thank our Year 6 students and parents who organised finger food and drinks for this event. Thank you also to the Jazz Band and their conductor Alex for performing at our Art Show. A special thank you to Mrs Lee-Joe for coordinating the Art Show and to all the parents who helped set up and pack up the displays. Bruno Diodati Principal

Relieving Deputy Principals’ Report

It has been a busy two weeks at Pymble – two nights of the Art Show, The P & C Disco and The Colour Fun Run. These events were a huge success and a credit to all involved. It is wonderful to watch the children from Pymble adapt to new situations and at all times conduct themselves in a manner that reflects well on our school.

Increasingly, children are bringing Mobile Phones to school. We understand that there are occasions where, for safety reasons, children may need phones before and after school. It is important, however that these phones are switched off and placed into school bags when the child arrives at school and are only turned on again at the end of the school day. Please note that due to privacy and safety issues, phones may not be used to take photos of other children while on school grounds.

On Friday, 24 of our year 6 students will perform at The Schools Spectacular – a variety show that involves 5000 students from across NSW. There are four performances on Friday and Saturday this week. Stage 3 will attend the Friday performance .

This week is our second and final Kindy Orientation. Last week it was wonderful seeing all the smiling faces in our Kindergarten classrooms as the children enjoyed making craft with the help of buddies. We look forward to seeing our pre-schoolers back today and their parents in the hall for some more information.

PSSA Weekly Report

Boys Cricket Seniors Vs Lindfield Score: 116-72 Win

An outstanding effort with two players sick today. The seniors first win of the season, and very well deserved! The whole team played brilliantly and all deserve recognition today. Juniors Vs Lindfield Score: 156-81 Win

It was a great game today. We won with a high wicket game. Jeremy, Eddie and Hamish were the best players on the field. Girls Cricket Juniors Vs. Lindfield Score: won by 36 runs Win

We tried to get as many wickets as we could today and we also did a great job in batting. We were trying to improve on our runs as well, and the team was definitely running more frequently, especially when hitting off the tees. Jasmine got three wickets and had great aim when bowling. Lucy bat really well and got the team lots of 4’s and 6’s.

Seniors Vs. Lindfield Score: 90-71 Loss The team played their absolute best today. Pearl and Sophie batted really well and Cate and Chloe bowled amazingly. Modball Seniors Vs. Gordon East Score: 7-7 Tie The Pymble team played well together and communicated very well with each other. Mia did some great pitches and helped to get Gordon East out. Jake was communicating well with everyone and we were all encouraging each other. Juniors Vs St Ives Score: 13-9 Loss

The team played pretty decently today. We tried our very best, although I think we need to work on communicating more and catching. Matt, Ruby and Kirrily were our 3 main players because they helped the team and make it more of a tight game. Touch Football Seniors Boys

Game 1 Gordon West Score: 5-1 Win

Game 2 St Ives North Score: 4-2 Win

The team overall played pretty well today and did a good job, but we could work on our defence to stop any trys from getting through. Dilan and Ollie did some great passes and Marcus scored some great trys on the wing. Seniors Girls

Game 1 Lindfield East Score: 3-1 Loss

Game 2 Gordon West Score: 6-1 Loss

The team played well in attack today but we need to work on our defence. Taya scored both trys and Georgia played a really great game. Junior Boys

Game 1 Chatswood Score:Friendly

Game 2 Chatswood Score: 2-1 Win

Today we had some good assists. Our passing was pretty good too. John, James, Rhys and Luke were the top players on the team today. Junior Girls

Game 1 Gordon West Score:Friendly

Game 2 St Ives North Score: 1-0 Loss

The team played well but in the friendly game we were being a bit too silly and should have taken it more seriously. Hannah, Alicia and Eleanor were the best players on the field today.
