Thy Mercy, My God

Words: John Stocker, 1776. Music: Sandra McCracken. © 2001 Same Old Dress Music (ASCAP).CCLI #1937987.

Thy mercy my God

Is the theme of my song

The joy of my heart

And the boast of my tongue

Thy free grace alone from the first to the last

Hath won my affections

And bound my soul fast.

Page 4: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Without Thy sweet mercy

I could not live here;

Sin would reduce me

To utter despair;

But through Thy free goodness, my spirits revive,

And He that first made me

Still keeps me alive.

Page 5: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Thy mercy is more than a match

For my heart

Which wonders to feel

Its own hardness depart

Dissolved by Thy goodness, I fall to the ground

And weep for the praise

Of the mercy I’ve found.

Page 6: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Great Father of mercies,

Thy goodness I own,

And the covenant love

Of Thy crucified Son;

All praise to the Spirit, whose whisper divine

Seals mercy, and pardon,

And righteousness mine…

Page 7: Leadership Summit 2010 October

All praise to the Spirit,

Whose whisper divine—

Seals mercy, and pardon,

And righteousness mine.

Jesus Lover Of My Soul

Words: Charles Wesley. Music: Greg Thompson. © 2000 Greg Thompson Music. CCLI #1937987.

Jesus, lover of my soul,

Let me to Thy bosom fly,

While the nearer waters roll,

While the tempest still is high.

Page 9: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Hide me, O my Savior, hide,

Till life’s storm is past,

Safe into the haven guide,

Receive my soul at last.

Page 10: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Other refuge have I none,

I helpless hang on Thee;

Leave, oh leave me not alone,

Support and comfort me.

Page 11: Leadership Summit 2010 October

All my trust on Thee is stayed,

All help from Thee I bring,

Cover my defenseless head,

In the shadow of Thy wing.

Page 12: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Thou, O Christ, are all I want,

Here more than all I find:

Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,

Heal the sick and lead the blind.

Page 13: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Just and holy is Thy name,

I am all unrighteousness,

False and full of sin I am,

Thou art full of truth and grace.

Page 14: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Plenteous grace with Thee is found,

Grace to cover all my sin,

Let the healing streams abound,

Make and keep me pure within.

Page 15: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Thou of life the fountain art,

Let me take of Thee,

Spring Thou up within my heart,

For all eternity.

Life-long Growing

1. Gospel “saturation” – seeing everything through a rich lens of grace, repentance, faith, freedom. Able to preach the gospel to yourself.

2. Maturing into Christ-likeness –more of your life turned over to the Lordship of Jesus. Having a Christian worldview.

3. Habits of Christian devotion and reflection – daily, weekly, monthly/quarterly, annually. Taking inventory and planning for seasons to grow and be refreshed.

Foundational Steps

The next steps are important as we establish a foundation beyond our current church.

For the next 18-24 months, Grace church’s focus will be on establishing a strong and healthy church: Lay leadership development Lay discipleship Strengthening the core sites: PA and SJ Planning for long-term ministry vitality

Page 23: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Commitment: Kingdom

Grace Church began as a movement committed to serving God’s Kingdom in mission and the broader church throughout the South Bay and the whole SF region

The pastors and elders are committed to carefully adding sites and/or plants, and other ministries, as God enables, over the next decade.

Question: how do we set up a sustainable, vital network of sites, lay leadership and staff? How do we help each generation mature and serve?

Page 24: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Three MultiSite Models

Page 25: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Vertical Model Pros and Cons

+ Pros Most cost efficient High unity, seems

tight Less dilution of

vision Bigger church feel

- Cons Doesn’t scale well

(span of care, thin pastoral care, burnout staff and leaders)

Less site autonomy New sites feel more

like a step-child Less focus on

outreach No simultaneous

services

Page 26: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Independent Model

Pros and Cons + Pros

Works at scale Allows specialized

leadership gifts ‘Star’ pastoral draw

(Piper, Keller, etc) Local autonomy,

essentially independent

Works with video or concurrent services

- Cons Unity problems

(essentially two churches)

Sr Pastor needs to be the primary preacher, heavy dependence on personality as a draw

Preaching and pastoring are split

Collaborative Model

Pros and Cons + PROs

More efficient than separated teams

Highly scalable Resource flexible Functions, pastoral

needs shared Less burnout of lay

leaders Preaching shared

among many good preachers

Enables local incarnation with shared vision

- CONs Harder to be the

functional leader Organizationally

more complex for staff, requires careful management

Communication channel has to be always active

The Church’s One Foundation

Words: Samuel Stone. Music: Brian Moss. © 1996 Parson John Music. CCLI #1937987.

The church’s one foundation

Is Jesus Christ her Lord,

She is His new creation,

By water and the Word.

From heaven He came and sought her

To be His holy bride;

With His own blood He bought her,

And for her life He died.

Page 33: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Elect from every nation

Yet one o’er all the earth;

Her charter of salvation,

One Lord, one faith, one birth;

One holy Name she blesses,

Partakes one holy food,

And to one hope she presses,

With every grace endued.

Page 34: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Mid toil and tribulation

And tumult of her war,

She waits the consummation

Of peace forevermore;

Till with the vision glorious,

Her longing eyes are blessed,

And the great church victorious

Shall be the church at rest.

Page 35: Leadership Summit 2010 October

Yet she on earth hath union

With God the Three in One,

And mystic sweet communion

With those whose rest is won.

O happy ones and holy

Lord, give us grace that we,

Like them the meek and lowly

On high may dwell with Thee.
