The Lee County Sheriff’s Office proudly recognizes Older Americans Month 2015, and celebrates the lifetime of contributions and sacrifices made to our nation, communities, and families by this strong generation of men and women. As the face of America grows older and more diverse, it’s important for families, caregivers, advocates and community leaders to join together to ensure our older adults thrive as they age.

“It’s my duty to safeguard our seniors from abuse, neglect and financial exploitation”, said Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott. “With one in four residents of Lee County 65 and older, we will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen our senior programs, community based services, and educational outreach in order to meet the needs of our older generation.”

While the Lee County Sheriff’s Office provides programs geared to older adults year-round, Older Americans Month offers the agency an opportunity to remind seniors of the various presentations and programs specifically designed with their needs in mind.

• Alzheimer’s Wanderer’s I.D. and Safety Program

• CarFit

• CASE – Communities against Senior Exploitation. Citizens Academy

• Crime and the Elderly

• File of Life

• Frauds, Scams, Cons

• Fraud Hotline

• Gun Safety for Adults

• Neighborhood Watch

• Personal Safety

• Project Lifesaver

• SAFE – Self Defense Awareness and Familiarization Exchange

• Senior Driver – Safe Mobility

• Senior Services Unit

• VOICE – Volunteer Observers Impacting Community Efforts

These successful crime prevention programs and community partnerships effectively educate and empower, protect and assist older adults so they can continue to live safely in their homes and communities. For more information about these FREE presentations, call the Crime Prevention Unit at 239-258-3280 or visit www.sheriffleefl.org

DID YOU KNOW??? THE CLUB HAS THREE AED (AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR) KITS ON THE PROPERTY. 1. Beverage Station outside main Dining Room Kitchen- left side of the wall

2. Pro Shop

3. Fitness Room at the Spa on the right side

What is an AED? An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient,[1] and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.

With simple audio and visual commands, AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layman, and the use of AEDs is taught in many first aid, first responder, and basic life support (BLS) level cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) classes.
